Subject: RE: Canadian Mudcat Meet: Ormstown Quebec-July From: Susan of DT Date: 03 Jul 07 - 03:42 PM Adrien - I answered you early yesterday. What size/color tee shirt did you want? Dick mentioned you wanted one and a quick scan of the postings did not show it to me. Anyone else want a mudcat tee shirt? |
Subject: RE: Canadian Mudcat Meet: Ormstown Quebec-July From: Beer Date: 03 Jul 07 - 11:37 AM Susan and Dick refresh your cookie. Subject: RE: Canadian Mudcat Meet: Ormstown Quebec-July From: Azizi Date: 27 Jun 07 - 12:12 AM Beer, the idea about videotaping some parts of the festival was just a random thought. If it can't be done this year, maybe next year. I'm not even sure if it's a good idea of not. If acts were videotaped, it seems to me that it's important to have the prior written consent of the artist/s. And I also think that when and how the video tape would be used would also have to be spelled out. So I suppose that means the involvement of some lawyer type people.[??] As to the second part of your 26 Jun 07 - 11:37 PM post, I'm assuming that statement was for all the readers of this thread. Regrettably, I'm not able to attend this festival. But I definitely hope that all goes well. |

Subject: RE: Canadian Mudcat Meet: Ormstown Quebec-July From: Beer Date: 26 Jun 07 - 11:37 PM Azizi So far I have had no luck but I'm hoping a few contacts still remaining will be able to video for you tube. Further to this...........If you are sure you are coming please p.m me with your real name and I will have your tickets paid for. All you will have to do is find me once in and settle up. beer (adrien) |
Subject: RE: Canadian Mudcat Meet: Ormstown Quebec-July From: john f weldon Date: 26 Jun 07 - 07:41 AM one friend had his car ashtray examined. they took it away for a while, then came back with a test-tube full of liquid and said it tested positive for traces of pot. (he never touches the stuff) they bawled him out, but ended up letting him across anyway (?) another guy had put his prescription pills in an unmarked bottle. They seized his car, and it took weeks to get it back! strange border events seem pretty random, and rare. most people just get waved through, "have a nice day", but you never can tell. Maybe the guards just get bored. |
Subject: RE: Canadian Mudcat Meet: Ormstown Quebec-July From: Charmion Date: 25 Jun 07 - 01:56 PM I've never had trouble crossing the border with a whole whack of instruments in the car, although once we were asked if we possessed any "narcotics". When we were done falling about laughing, we realized the U.S. officer-type person was quite serious and answered him seriously, at which point he favoured us with his opinions on Canadian wacky-terbacky and waved us through. If we say we're going to a folk festival (that is, if we are) we always say we are not performing for money. Otherwise, we just say we're visiting friends -- also true. Either way, we have always been waved through. |
Subject: RE: Canadian Mudcat Meet: Ormstown Quebec-July From: GUEST Date: 23 Jun 07 - 10:23 PM I've crossed the border with my guitar on many an occasion and it's never been a problem. I bought a barrel at New Ross Farm in NS. An empty barrel was quite a puzzle for the USA border guard. He asked me if I had any cigarettes that "snap, crackle and pop"! and he spent a bit of time thumping the empty barrel. |
Subject: RE: Canadian Mudcat Meet: Ormstown Quebec-July From: Beer Date: 22 Jun 07 - 09:06 PM What a great idea. Would like to discuss it more but have company and must get back to them. Should be back Sunday evening. Beer |
Subject: RE: Canadian Mudcat Meet: Ormstown Quebec-July From: Azizi Date: 22 Jun 07 - 08:53 PM Beer, I'm wondering if you or some other person associated with the organizing committee of this festival or some designated person who is fortunate enough to attend this festival have thought about making video clips for posting on YouTube {of course with the prior permission of the artists}??? Or is this not something which is done at these type of concerts? |
Subject: RE: Canadian Mudcat Meet: Ormstown Quebec-July From: john f weldon Date: 22 Jun 07 - 08:19 PM Keep pills in the original containers. |
Subject: RE: Canadian Mudcat Meet: Ormstown Quebec-July From: C. Ham Date: 21 Jun 07 - 05:54 PM I've crossed the border with my guitar on many an occasion and it's never been a problem. If you tell them you're coming across to attend a music festival and you've got instruments, it would help if you had a flyer from the festival showing that you're not one of their advertised performers. But seriously, a lot of people cross the border every day with musical instruments. If they're for personal use, it's perfectly OK. What you don't want to do is tell them you're just a tourist or just visiting if your name is on publicity material or websites for the festival. |
Subject: RE: Canadian Mudcat Meet: Ormstown Quebec-July From: john f weldon Date: 21 Jun 07 - 05:34 PM Actually, to be more reassuring, there are a gang of Vermonters who regularly show up in Montreal for jam sessions, complete with a carload of instruments, and head back late at night; no problems so far. |
Subject: RE: Canadian Mudcat Meet: Ormstown Quebec-July From: john f weldon Date: 21 Jun 07 - 05:20 PM Dick G.... Probably not a problem. But a ukelele will be less obtrusive than a stand-up bass. ...and borders are always a bit randomly weird these days... (Seriously, the three concerns are... ...are these the tools of your trade/are you coming to work? ...are you trying to avoid duties/sales tax by importing them? ...do they contain bombs? If no to all three, then no problem. But don't leave them visible, or mention them.) _john the wise. |

Subject: RE: Canadian Mudcat Meet: Ormstown Quebec-July From: dick greenhaus Date: 21 Jun 07 - 10:43 AM Does anyone know if there'll be a problem crossing the border from the US with instruments (both ways)? |
Subject: RE: Canadian Mudcat Meet: Ormstown Quebec-July From: Beer Date: 20 Jun 07 - 10:19 PM Thanks Gnu. I'm a little down tonight because I had to cancel the "Youth Stage". Not enough interest. Maybe next year. Hopefully at other festival events this is not the case. That is if you have a "Youth Stage". I picked up the idea from the Festival in Saint John's Newfoundland last year and thought it would be a great idea for here as well. Guess I was wrong. Friday evening is really shaping up great. I think I'll have to have two area's of music. One in a stage setting and the other in a camp fire setting Adrien |

Subject: RE: Canadian Mudcat Meet: Ormstown Quebec-July From: GUEST,john f weldon Date: 14 Jun 07 - 06:32 PM If you mean the banjo-picking singer of the Mountain City Four (back in the early sixties), yes, he is indeed my cousin. By the way, I've attended the Champlain Valley Fest for more than 20 years straight; it's a week after Ormstown; a bit farther south and you have to cross the border (gasp). But it's a terrific fest; you can swim and listen to music at the same time. Subject: RE: Canadian Mudcat Meet: Ormstown Quebec-July From: GUEST,john f weldon Date: 13 Jun 07 - 10:15 AM It's not me that alerts the lawyers, I love having it shown anywhere. If so I want you to introduce yourself to a really good friend of mine who is playing there with his wife. Andre Thibault and Qiu ( Qiu pronounced "key") It maybe not the kind of music you like but they are fabulous people. Andre and I worked together for years and we are still the best of friends.
