To whom it may concern:

(I've longed to start a message like that ever since childhood!)

At the end of this month, 27,28,29 October, there's a Singing Festival in Knockroghery, Co. Roscommon, Ireland. Almost in the geographical centre of the island, Knockroghery is not far from the shores of Lough Ree (so, if your map doesn't show the one, you'll surely find the other). "Keep a song in your heart!"

This really will be wonderful. Nice setting, people are great and Alison MacMorland & Geordie McIntyre are really fine ballad singers.

Sitting in Batty O'Brien's bar (which used to have a motorbike in its front window - but that's another story) on Saturday afternoon, through a long, relaxed singing session, as the light from the setting sun streamed in through the windows and gradually faded until the candles flickering in alcoves slowly took over...

So you were there too; was Batty O'Brien's the fairly low-ceilinged, quite dimly lit one (in two parts)? Jimmie Murray's was quite an experience too (standing-room only on both Saturday and Sunday).

ABCD

Yes - that's it. I was only there for the Saturday afternoon, this year. Enjoyed that session very much.

Glad you both enjoyed it, but what I'm really wondering about is names to look out for on the singing circuit? (Shopper)

The short answer is - YES!

Murray's tends to be the HQ with excursions to the other (three?) establishments. Hope to make part of it this year, if possible.

Festival details

Was only able to get to the opening Friday afternoon walk/session this year. Seemed to be getting things off to a good start! Two excellent Traveller singers - Tommy McCarthy and Kitty Cassidy.

Click here for a few pics.
