Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: LEJ Date: 29 Apr 99 - 12:19 AM Alice...try this phone number for Aron in regard to the Musicians Rendezvous.406-322-4143. I think that is still current.LEJ |
Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: Alice Date: 28 Apr 99 - 11:49 AM LEJ, I went to our local Tuesday night Old Time session last night, and the other musician I talked to had never heard of the Rendezvous in Columbus (weird, since we are so close, but this is the first I have heard of it, too). He is very active in the Bozeman Folklore Society and he plays hammered dulcimer in the old time string band here. They are sponsoring an evening of Old Time music by Rick Thum and Dan Levenson, from St. Louis, on May 8th. Workshops for hammered dulcimer and banjo the afternoon of the 8th.
I need more information on the Aug 14 event to pass on to the musicians here. Aron's email address bounced back to me. Who will be performing on stage at the Rendezvous? Is there a charge for the performance (exact time and date)? When can people show up for camping and jamming? Are there performances on Aug 14 and 15? If anyone wants to extend their Montana visit after the 15th (Sunday), there is a Monday night (8pm) bluegrass session and Tuesday night old time session in Bozeman at the old Baxter Hotel lobby. Sunday night is the Irish session. There is also a very active bluegrass session in Helena, but I don't have the location or day. There are Helena Mudcatters, so maybe someone from that session can provide the info. |

Lay a rope on the ground, in an outline around your bag; no self-respecting snake will crawl over it to git ta anybody's stinky feet!* * For entertainment purposes only. Consult your local Game & Fish Dept. for safety tips around wildlife. Ropers proceed at their own risk. New verse for Max: Under a Mudstock Moon Max met a snakey boon He tied his rope, around the dope (the snake you guys!) Under the Mudstock Moon! |

To the tune of "When I met you" (at least that's the name dad and I remember; sorry, I think some babershop quartets do it, in a kind of gay 90's style, previous century guys! It just sorta lent itself to the thought.)
Under a Mudstock Moon,
Under a Mudstock Moon
Under a Mudstock Moon
Under a Mudstock Moon,
Under a Mudstock Moon
Under a Mudstock Moon
Under a Mudstock Moon
Now this song will end NOW, feel free to add your own verses, Pulleeezeee and put me outta my misery! katLAUGHING all the way!

Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: folk1234 Date: 22 Apr 99 - 02:47 PM Thank you kindly, Alice. These old bones need the soft mattress of a hotle/motel. Hope to see ya' all under a Mudstock moon in a big Montana sky. (There might be a song in there somewhere) |
Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: Alice Date: 21 Apr 99 - 05:47 PM folk1234, check with hotels and motels in the small towns along that highway. There is an old one called The Murray in Livingston, which is an interesting place. Absarokee (ab-zor-kee) has the Stillwater Lodge. Big Timber has a super-8 motel. Columbus has Super-8 Motel, Git's Big Sky Motel, Riverside Cabins, Super-8 Townhouse Inn. Laurel has a Best Western, Laurel Ridge, Russell Motel, Welcome Travelers. Billings is much larger and has more choices. |
Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: folk1234 Date: 21 Apr 99 - 04:32 PM I've been monitoring this thread for the past 6 weeks. MUDSTOCK 99 sounds like a great event. I think that I will be able to drive up from OK. Is there any one on the way twix Ada, OK and Columbus MT that I can pick up or caravan with? LEJ please count me in for a tee shirt XXL. I'll also email you to arrange for payment & delivery or pick up at MUDSTOCK. It will be fun to meet some other Catters. I coundn't find any last week at the Big Muddy Folk Fest in Boonville, MO. What are the accomodation options for those of us who have burned and burried our camping gear? |
Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: katlaughing Date: 19 Apr 99 - 01:29 PM Sounds good Leej. Thanks. kat |
Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: LEJ Date: 19 Apr 99 - 12:28 PM Katlaughing...We won't need reservations per se, but it would be good to get an idea of total number so that Aron can set aside an appropriate camping space for us. Also if phoaks are interested in a MUDSTOCK 99 tee-shirt, we could plan a number for printing. How about if those who plan to attend e-mail me at radioshack@wcox.com ? LEJ |
Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: Alice Date: 19 Apr 99 - 09:59 AM Here is a map of Columbus, MT. You can zoom out from it to see larger maps. (click here for map) |
Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: Vixen Date: 19 Apr 99 - 08:35 AM I've got the same questions as Katlaughing, AND want to find out if anybody wants to caravan/carpool from CT??? I've put in for the time off, and, since I've been west by the southern route, I'm looking forward to heading west on the northern route. V |
Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: katlaughing Date: 18 Apr 99 - 03:36 PM refresy and also to ask if we have a head count and do we need to make reservations with anyone? LEJ, should we email Aron about all of this or are you? Thanks, katlaf |
Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: Alice Date: 10 Apr 99 - 01:31 PM LEJ, I work in Montana for a company in Denver that could print the shirts and ship them to Montana for the event. Get in touch with me at acflynn@mcn.net if you want to discuss this more. alice |
Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: Alice Date: 10 Apr 99 - 12:59 PM I should have mentioned I also did the 'Gator Gear' and the 'Original Swamp Shirt' designs on the southern states page, too. They are alternate styles of art that could be used for a Mudcat '99 design. alice |
Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: Alice Date: 10 Apr 99 - 12:56 PM Hi, all, I do tee shirt designs for a living. Back when Max and Dick were doing the Mudcat tee-shirt, I tried to hook them up with one of my clients in Alabama that print on shirts that they dye in different colors of clay. The project fell through with them (sorry about whatever happened there, Max, I know their shirts are expensive, and they are busy, too). Here is an example of what I did for them for southern states and footprints in mud (tread lightly). I did a series of designs that look like they are embossed in mud, since I thought it was a good concept to connect to the earth dye. I could do a design of the shape of Montana like it is pressed into mud and then a catfish inside the state... what do you think? example of Southern states shapes or footprints in mud (tread lightly)
or something done in a design like this, with a Catfish in the center and instruments around the sides of the border. Mudstock 1999 Official TeeShirt at top alice in montana

Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: Craig Date: 10 Apr 99 - 02:06 AM Hey! I'm a native Californian and I resemble those remarks. I would like a Mudstock t-shirt even iffin I don't make it to Mudstock 99. I'm definitely going to look into getting there. Craig |
Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: LEJ Date: 10 Apr 99 - 01:17 AM Great idea Kat! I would also like to get some ideas from phoaks about what they'd like to see on a Mudstock tee-shirt. I'd like to use the Mudcat Cafe logo on the back- how about Dan Milner hookin a trout with a banjo string on the front with Mudstock 99 underneath? Or maybe a map of Montana with a Catfish over the festival site. Ideas? Max- we will definitely give a share of any profit on the shirts to Mudcat...LEJ |
Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: katlaughing Date: 10 Apr 99 - 01:04 AM TO EVERYONE: just thought you'd like to know, Roger, my husband, is looking into bringing some equipment with him to link to a website, either the 'Cat (he and Max will have to talk) or one we put up, and to do some live shots from it, for anyone who wants to "tune" in, provided anyone involved agrees to it. |

I'll download those instructions to convert a guitar to four/eight strings and really tourture you all with my inept playing!) Hey if this is on for 2000, I'd really, REALLY like to come! Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: katlaughing Date: 30 Mar 99 - 05:34 PM Just posted this to Catspaw: since we exist only in cyberland, to each other, at least most of us never having clapped eyes on one another's supposed corporeal bodies, I've begun to think of us as the "Phantom Phoak". Riding the rails, so to speak, of cyberland, digital and fibre carrying our words along to mingle with one another in this incredible space we've created. Anybody want to write some words using "Phantom Phoak" to Ghost Riders in the Sky?***BG*** kat |

Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: Lonesome EJ Date: 30 Mar 99 - 12:18 AM Because of an inquiry on the "Favorite Festivals" thread, I am bringing this on back up. Any one interested in a Pre-Mudstock limited addition t-shirt release? I'd like Max to let us incorporate the Mudcat Cafe logo, as well as some other original art. Kat- I like the term "phoaks". Kinda like the 'Phabulous Phurry Phoak Brothers & Sisters'. Banjer and Catspaw...we are thinking of setting a special area aside for banjo players. It will be in a walled area that allows extremely good acoustics for you guys, while preventing any sound from escaping to contaminate the rest of the camp. Grits and fresh-baked scones will be served, along with lashings of red eye gravy. Sounds simply brill,eh mates? Any Aussies in attendance will be provided a barbie, but must provide their own shrimp as all we raise round here are oysters. |
Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: Alice Date: 23 Mar 99 - 10:15 AM If you make it to Mudstock at Columbus, drive west to Big Timber and then south to McLeod (that's pronounced McCloud). It is just a couple of buildings with a name, but there is the ROAD KILL CAFE. Sorry, no road kill on the menu, but they do have burgers and fries, and a neat sign for a photo to take back home.
There is also an interesting waterfall where the Boulder River disappears underground and then comes out the side of a rock wall. It's the Natural Bridge State Monument, south of McLeod. alice in montana |

Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: katlaughing Date: 16 Mar 99 - 08:01 PM Dear Lonesome: I don't talk about Californians like that to their face. My very favourite niece (a native of Colorado) lives in San Diego, as do many other best friends. I'm glad you are working to preserve the way of life you moved there for. Unless you moved there 15 or 20 yrs ago, though, it's not the kind of life I knew and loved there; but, I guess that's true of almost anywhere. NOI! Whereabouts in Kentucky? My son is a transplanted Coloradoan living in Clarksville, IN and working in Louisville; wants to return to CO someday, although he is really enjoying himself, just bought his first house(gosh, he's more responsible than me!) Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: Bob Landry Date: 16 Mar 99 - 07:04 PM What a great idea! Gotta check my calendar. The dates sound awfully close to the annual jam session my buds hold in Northern Alberta. If there's no conflict, I'll point the pony car south and, in 2 short (maybe not so short) days, I can be there. Bob |
Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: Lonesome EJ Date: 16 Mar 99 - 06:12 PM Bert..check back on this thread for Aron Strange's email and phone. If you want to perform on stage, he's the guy to talk to. If you want to jam, eveybody's welcome! Kat...as a transplanted Kentucky boy, I tend to go easy on the Califonians and other newcomers, while fighting to maintain the quality of life that moved me here. What kind of business are you in, Bert? Maybe we can reloc ate you... Bet you'll want to stay after you get out here. "The West is the Best. Get here and we'll do the rest." -James Douglas Morrison |
Subject: RE: MUDSTOCK 99 From: katlaughing Date: 16 Mar 99 - 04:00 PM Bert, There's too many "furriners" everywhere in Colorado now! Used to be when I called home, everybody sounded like a native; now they are few and far between! My sister is in Colorado; my cousin in Colorado Springs (probably the only native there!); and I am in Wyoming. I had to move back to the Rockies after ten yrs away, so I can understand your wife's dilemma. If there is anything I can do to help you in your quest, if quest it be, please let me know. katlaughing |
