Well, I found mention of the song and the second line here (click):

God Bless de Valera and Sean McEntee,
God Bless the brown bread and the half-ounce of tea

Bless them all, bless them all
The long and the short and the tall
Bless De Valera, and Seán McIntee
Who gave us brown bread, and a half-ounce of tea
And they rationed the cocoa and all
And sure it needn't be rationed at all.
They're bringing starvation, to our destination
So cheer up, me lads, bless them all!

So sang Corkonians, north and south of the river, during the "Emergency" period. Politicians always come under fire, and the Emergency was no exception! [More to read about it there.]

PS Found with a Google of

God Bless the brown bread and the half-ounce of tea

Thanks, Joe.

However, I found nothing aside from that.

Please note the misspelling of McEntee in the third line of the song lyrics. I suspect that's why it didn't come up.

A variant:

Bless them all, bless them all,
The long and the short and the tall;
Bless de Valera and Sean McEntee
For giving us the black bread and the half-ounce of tea.
but we're saying goodbye to them all,
As back to the barracks we crawl,
If we don't get cocoa we're going to go loco,
So cheer up, me lads, bless 'em all.

Wolfgang

Bless 'em all (in the DT) seems related. If you follwo the link there are many cross references that might contain some useful information.

Bless de Valera and Seán MacEntee,
They gave us the black flour,
And the half-ounce of tea.
They rationed the cocoa and all,
But they couldn't ration the porter at all.
They brought starvation
To our little nation,
So cheer up St Vincent de Paul.

Bless them all, bless them all,
God bless the men of the Dail
Bless deValera and Sean MacEntee
For giving us brown bread and a half ounce of tea,
Oh, they blame poor old Churchill on all,
You can’t kid the men of the Dail,
They’re bringing starvation,
To this little nation
Thank God for St Vincent De Paul

That’s how I learned it in Belfast during WW2, now I am 83 years old and I know now how De Valera and Sean MacEntee risked their lives, and went on hunger strikes to free Ireland. They fought at the time of Kevin Barry and Tom Barry and hundreds more, now revered. And I reflect how men and women who do the fighting and take the risks, should NEVER go into politics thereafter, for half the country will mock and despise.

and the majority of politicians become corrupted and sell out , these days to multinationals, imo- DeValera became a puppet of the church.
