Just for clarification. If you follow the link above to Graham's website, you'll see he talks about the 'new Nic Jones/Halliard' album. Newly released, yes, but fifteen of the eighteen tracks recorded in 1968. What IS new are three additional tracks recorded in 2005 which include Graham accompanying (superbly) Nic singing 'Rakish Young Fellow'.

Yes, and we might have to keep him away from magnets now that he's got a new titanium knee - not sure if titanium is conductive, never was any good at physics or chemistry!
Yes he's got used to being frisked, his only regret is that it's always a bloke doing the frisking rather than a fair young maid. Nothing changes.
The reason he was looking rather frail in the Tap & Spile was because his knee has crumbled during this last year and he was in much pain, but he's back walking the dog again and chuffed to bits - won't be joining in any ceilidhs mind you, but it's a vast improvement and he's happy with it.
There are lots of lovely messages on here and we both thank you for them.

Julia

A PS to my post above, & echoing what Ralph said earlier. The best thing we can all do is go out & buy the latest offering from Topic in vast quantities. Also, I was speaking to Julia, Nic's wife, yesterday & she said if Nic toured again, there wouldn't be a stage strong enough to support him, he's got so many pins & braces holding him together! Nothing like humour in adversity!

Nic was in recently in one night at the Tap & Spile in York, it took a fair amount of persuasion for him to come into the session room. He looked fine to me but others had known him from long ago and were a little concerned but also chuffed to bits that he was there. It would be good to see a lengthy swansong

It's really heartening to read all the posts here. Fortunately, Nic is alive & well. He does play & sing at home,(often his own songs),but enjoys it more when there's someone with whom he can play...we've had some wonderful weekends together over the last year or so. Nic & Dave & I have no plans to tour, but if we did, I'm sure we wouldn't be short of an audience or two!

What was I doing when I heard about Nic's accident? I was at a meeting in Manchester to set up PERFORM (of lamented memory) and the news came via Dave Walters. I can still remember the shock - and how many of us were involved in benefit concerts afterwards but how I could never sing "Icarus" at them, because the words and tune just got stuck somewhere around my heart.
I'm looking forward to hearing his new songs.

Anne

I can remember giving Nic his first gig in Brighton - I was running the College of Education Folk Club at the time, and he wrote saying he was just starting to go solo. I'd heard good reports of the Halliard so i took a risk, despite moans from people saying "never heard of him, what have you booked him for" - you know the usual things. But didn't they just eat their words!! And what is more, he even complimented me on my guitar playing... Good luck to him whatever he is doing.

I remember borrowing the first Nic Jones album from Chiswick Library,a very long time ago ... more than anything else that got me into Folk; saw him live now and then (not enough) and even now I never tire of listening to him, on vinyl or CD. I think we all cherish the memories we have of seeing Nic perform, and the pleasure of meeting him. He doesn't just belong to us old-timers either, as evidenced by the admiration he evokes in the coming generation of singers and musicians. They've never seen him, never will, yet his recorded output is fresh enough to enthrall them too.

I remember meeting Nic Jones a few times, in various venues, in East Anglia. Even then he was a legendary singer and guitarist and his fame was growing. I remember thinking what a nice, genuine person he was but assumed that if I ever bumped into him, in different company, he wouldn't know me from Adam - I was wrong!

In the early 70s I moved to Manchester and started getting acquainted with the local folk scene. One night I went to the old MSG club because Nic Jones was on. I will never forget that he came up to me and said hello - even remembered my name! To me that is the mark of a truly genuine person. I do so hope that one day I will have the privilege of hearing him sing again.

Hi Dr Price.
Just seen your mail.
Quite agree. Kennedy, Sandy Denny, Lennon, Nic J..defining moments
(for some reason, Elvis remains elusive!!)
Nigel Chippindale was rehearsing a show that day, and was staying at my flat. He arrived home with the news of the accident, and we sat up for several hours talking about it. A very sad night.

Hello GUEST.
Nic certainly remembers what he did back in the 70's.
But he's moved on since then. Maybe he'll record again one day. He has written a few songs, so let's see.
It's just amazing to me that there is still so much interest all these years after the event.
Thanks to all for your interest. And go out and get the Topic record.
Regards Ralphie

Like the Kennedy assassination, everybody can recall just what they doing on the night of the accident. I was touring Britanny at the time when rumours started flying around that Nic had been in a smash, and the chances of his survival were decidedly pessimistic. I watched Nic in the Valley Folk Club in Pontardawe and marvelled at the sheer artistry of his guitar playing, his passionate singing and his inscisive and diligent research. My heartfelt thanks go out to him.

Nic used to come to our local folk club and put his name on the list of singers with everyone else when he was around. One of the kindest and most genuine people on the folk scene I have ever met. He is still one of my heroes and if he ever did tour again I would travel miles and miles to see him. His new album is superb, there again I would expect nothing less of Nic.

I think that the Jones family will forgive me if I tell you that Nic will not be touring again. Particularly with the Halliard, One of whom lives in Tasmania. Imagine the idea. A one off gig at Sidmouth Fest. A fee of £100 per person. Expenses...£3000!!
Don't think that many organisers would pay that!
Nic has recorded some new material for the Halliard project, and may even record again in the future. (he has written some new songs). It's up to him, but I don't think he wants to go back on the road. And, who can blame him. Look what happened last time!
Regards Ralphie

Ihad the misfortune to play the GLOSSOP FOLK CLUB, The week after Nic had his accident, he was driving home from this club, to his house near March when he fell asleep at the wheel. when I arrived at the club I heard this dreadful news And had to somehow do the gig. Nic was a wonderful singer and guitarist,Dick Miles

I've recently heard whisperings that Nic is going to do a few gigs with the reformed Halliard. Anyone know anything more? I was five when he had his accident and quite frankly I'd kill to see him live!
