A dear old friend of mine used to sing me this song, and I have been trying to find the lyrics for years.

The only part of a verse I can remember goes:

Johnny's mad and I am glad.
How do you know?
Johnny's mad and I am glad.
Who told you so?

The chorus goes something like:

Done Caught a rabbit, uh huh.
Done caught a rabbit, uh huh.
Done caught a rabbit, uh huh.
Done caught a rabbit, oh!

Hi - Music Now and Long Ago, the third-grade Silver Burdett school songbook (1958) has this:

I Caught a Rabbit (Kentucky folk song)

Rabbit run on the frozen ground! Who told you so?
Rabbit run on the frozen ground! How do you know?
I caught a rabbit, uh-huh! I caught a rabbit, uh-huh!
I caught a rabbit, uh-huh! I caught a rabbit, oh!

Kentucky folk song collected by Jean Thomas, the "Traipsin' Woman"

Google showed several references to a choral arrangement of "Done Caught a Rabbit," apparently arranged for school choruses. Arrangers: Imig & Simon, published by Carl Fischer, Inc.

Johnny's mad, and I am glad,
And I know what will please him:
A bottle of wine to make him shine,
And Mary Jones to squeeze him.

--from the chapter "Nursery Jingles" in the book "Types of Children's Literature" by Walter Barnes, 2004. (found with Google Book Search)

Johnny's mad and I am glad,
And I know what it'll take to please him—
A bottle o' wine to treat him fine
And a pretty little girl to squeeze him.

--collected in North Carolina 1926-28, and printed in "Children's Games and Rhymes" by Paul G. Brewster, 1952, page 175, under the heading "Teasing Rhymes." (I infer that the speaker uses the names of actual people he/she knows instead of "Johnny," "Mary Jones," or "pretty little girl.")

I heard a similar song in kindergarten, 1970...it's been stuck in my head ever since

Rabbits running on a frozen ground, who told you so?
Rabbits running on a frozen ground, how do you know?
