The US Navy Dept.has come clean and admitted a sat-nav malfunction.The warships over-reaction was due to being wrongly placed in the Shat-Al Arab.

Coincidentally,Captain MacFish also believed himself wrongly placed in the Shat...

Given the amount of times the US Forces have opened fire and KILLED friendly forces, I think there was a real danger. If they had known there were Glaswegians on board it may well have panicked an American warship.

"It was human error, plain and simple, someone pressing the wrong button," said a navy spokesman.

Which is the kind of comment to send chills down your spine. After all, the Cold War may be done with (for now anyway), but there are still thousands of nuclear weapons in service.

The Boat Band, on one occasion in the Firth of Clyde, were invited to board a USA navy ship in similar circumstances, as they wanted us to play them a tune. Unfortunately we had a somewhat pacifically inclined anti-American musician with us, so we declined the offer. Alas: i would have found it interesting.
