hi all i have in my collection a tape produced by a group called shanachie folk called children of the night produced in aid of martin house i was wondering if anybody knows what happend to the group? are they still around? there are a couple of very good songs on the tape any help would be appreciated

5 years later, I've no idea if you'll get this. I actually know some of the people who made the album - several of them were local teachers. Unfortunately it seems that the album was indeed a one-off, which is a shame, as it's an old favourite of mine. Fortunately for us, before the car stereo had chance to eat the tape, my brother took it into his studio and made the best quality rip he could manage, so I still have a copy. I wonder if Martin House still have the original masters. Would be great to have a CD made.

This page seems to indicate it was a UK folk band. Is that correct? Can anybody add more information about this band?

There was a duo called "Shanachie" playing round Perthshire a few years back. I'm pretty sure my brother made some of their CDs, and possibly as far back as cassette tapes. I'll ask him. Might be another group all together, of course.

It's a group of around 8-10 people, I believe. They were indeed a UK folk band. I know at least some of their members were from the north of England - several of them are family friends.

There's a fine trio in the urban area of Phoenix, Arizona, called Seanachie that performs Irish and Scottish songs. Steve Colby, Ken Mulqueen and Dennis McMorrow. At the present time they are, unfortunately, only semi-active.

Hi just found these messages, Shanachie Folk was a group based in West Yorkshire made up of Bill Harrison, Bill Bottomley, Andy Hill, Andrea Clarke, Pat Armstead, Stuart Murray and my father Gerald Ineson. They were a group of friends who did a number of charity concerts in and around the Dewsbury and Batley Area for charity events about 20 years ago.
Many of the concerts they held were fund raisers for Martin House Childrens Hospice and they then decided to raise further funds by recording the album Children of the Night. The album was produced by Andrew Mullins in Wakefield who I would like to add refused to accept any money for his time or use of his facilities . Every penny raised therefore went to the hospice as the band only recorded songs where agreements had been reached with who ever held the rights to the song to waive their royalties.
Sadly this was their only album and the band folded and will not be able to reform due to the sad deaths of both Andrea Clarke and Gerald Ineson

Today is 7th June 2014. Location is Dewsbury Minster. It's a charity night here and amongst various local choirs singing there are a few familiar faces in a band now named 'Skelsey Row.' Bill Harrison, Bill Bottomley, Andy Hill, Stuart, Ian and Steve. New band, new tracks.

They were excellent and will be doing a gig in Sepyember 2014 at Batley Parochial Hall by all accounts. Be there!

Little bit more info. Gerald Ineson and I began singing together in Gerald's front room. Gerald had the idea of forming a group to raise funds for the Martin Hiuse Children's Hospice and he suggested the name Shanachie, very soon afterwards we were joined by Bill Harrison and then shortly afterwards the others named in your previous article.
I am lucky enough to have a CD of the 'Children of the Night' tape.

Just a bit of info about Skelsey Row
Skelsey Row are a 6 piece acoustic string band based (mostly) in West Yorks. Formed in 2014 they consist of :Bill Harrison - vocals Bill Bottomley - guitar/vocals Steve Oliver - double bass Ian Pearson -fiddle Andy Hill -guitar/vocals and Stuart Murray -mandolin/tenor banjo/octave mandola. Loosely pigeon-holed as an Irish Music Folk Band but perform stuff from Irish Trad songs/tune sets to Paxton to Bogle to Beatles to anything that comes to hand!

Just to add to previous comment skelsky row are formed from a number of those who were originally shanakee! They are superb an I watched them perform just this last weekend!! I am biased as Andy hill is my dad!! Ha!!

Skelsey Row played last night at St Paulinus, Dewsbury. Great gig. They have started writing their own material and have some excellent songs written by Andy Hill mixed with irish folk classics. The mid song banter is of amusement too. I heard that members of copper kettle were in the audience so take what you want from that, they must be fans.

Skelsey Row are available to do gigs, charity do's. I know they will be doing something for Kirkwood hospice in Hudds next year but unsure of anything between now and then.

In an online notice about a charity performance by Skelsey Row, one of the two members named Bill was referred to as "Lifetimer Bill." Has something to do with an organization, "Lifetime." Please, can anyone elucidate?

Searching my usual places comes up with nothing. Next time I'm logged onto my university account I'll look in Worldcat to see what libraries might have it. I'd suggest borrowing a copy and making a recording of it since it's so scarce.
