Subject: Lyr Add: SHAKE IT, IDA, SHAKE IT (Allen Brothers) From: GUEST,Richie Date: 26 Oct 06 - 11:51 AM I've transcribed "Shake It, Ida, Shake It" by the Allen Brothers from here:http://www.honkingduck.com/BAZ/honkingduck78s.php?qt=title&ap=10&tp=14&q=shake+it&Find=Search It's close to being correct, corrections as always are welcome. The interesting thing is that melody of "My Creole Belle/Back Up and Push" is played as an intro and a break. I recently posted info about the origin of Back Up and Push. This is a good example of a song that uses the melody (even tho it's not sung). Anyone have info about this song/ origin or other similar songs? It's probably related in some way to Ida Red versions. "SHAKE IT, IDA, SHAKE IT" by "Allen Brothers" Montgomery Ward M-4439 Recorded: Unknown Issued: February 1934 (Kazoo plays melody of "My Creole Belle/Back Up and Push") I went to a dance with Ida Red. Shook it with a shimmy and your papa fell dead. (Shake it, Ida, shake it.)* She's been to Italy. She's been to Spain, Shimmying in the sunshine, shimmying in the rain. Shake it, Ida, shake it. (Banjo melody of "My Creole Belle/Back Up and Push") Started with the sailors and the farmers too. Always shakin' it, she never gets through. Shake it, Ida, shake it. She shakes it to the left, shakes to the right, Shakes it all day and most of the night. Shake it, Ida, shake it. (Kazoo plays melody of "My Creole Belle/Back Up and Push") You ever seen her shake it, you'll sure go blind. Shakes it in front and shakes it behind. Shake it on down, Ida. She shook it at two, three, and four. Yes, sweet papa, let me shake it some more. Shake it on down, baby. Started shaking with a man named Stout. Swear to my soul, she's gonna wear it out. (Shake it, Ida, shake it.)* (Kazoo plays melody of "My Creole Belle/Back Up and Push") SPOKEN: Shake it, fool, shake it. *"Shake it, Ida, shake it" is omitted but could be sung here. |
