Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Fri 3rd Nov 06 From: Rasener Date: 04 Nov 06 - 02:26 PM Oops I forgot to mention a thank you to Dave, Barbara and Colin, who spent a lot of time in the kitchen making sandwiches tea & coffee for us lot and then washing up after us. Considering it was the first attempt at providing food, I thought it went exceedingly well. For those who partook, was it a good idea or not - be honest? Many thanks to Jason from JET for giving Inge my wife a small amount of his home made Raspberry & Gin brew. She hasn't tried it yet, but I believe its very potent. Hope he didn't use the brasso tin kazoo to sieve it. Maybe he will start a Jason Homemade Brewery. |

Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Fri 3rd Nov 06 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 03 Nov 06 - 11:09 PM Well well another great night out in the wilds of Lincolnshire! Stitherum kicked of the evening with a very nice set. As always a good mix of materiel, Soos with her laid back vocals and multi instrumentalist Mike displaying his skill with the cittern (He tells me this is much easier than it looks due to some open tuning but the truth is it sounds great and I cant do it) + that beautiful guitar. No wonder the audience were joining in. Steve Jackson was better than I have ever heard him with a good mix of his own songs and some classics getting the audience singing along and all really enjoying the guys set. Another player who can ring the changes and play several instruments.(Grrr) Paul Dickinson and Angela King ended the first half. I have never seen this duo before and it was great to hear such an accomplished partnership for the first time. I was pleased to see that Paul managed to play only the one instrument for this set, but then he spoiled it by playing some lovely tunes in the way that these good players do, perfectly! Another set of various self penned and cover songs all beautifully sung and played. To the sandwiches. They were bloomin excellent ta very much and the tea was great, just the thing for such a cold night. Raffle was good we won a CD from Jet Skiffle and Blues who opened the second half. Really enjoyed this set as well. These blokes really go for it big time when they play and soon the hall was jumping to the beat of washboard, Box bass and guitar. They were superb fun and went down very well with the audience. I am not at all implying that they were not to be taken seriously BTW they are a very good band. They also finished what was a great run up to the talented and very approachable Ron Trueman-Border. This bloke was sensational no wonder the club could only afford to pay him for ten minutes worth. Seriously good songwriter, (still recovering from a chest infection whistling a Bit?) great voice. Guitar doing whatever he told it to. Plays harmonica and performs. As it happens, from beginning to end this was a great evening of music. But the outstanding thing for me was the way in which the audience took to the performers from the first to the last and sang and stamped and clapped the evening away. Sound was as ever superb! MC was firm but cuddly.(LOL) Whoever put this group of performers together for the evening did us all a great favor. (and all for £3) Another great night at MRFC Thank you all. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Fri 3rd Nov 06 From: Rasener Date: 03 Nov 06 - 08:14 PM Thanks everybody for your wonderful efforts tonight that made it a really smashing evening. What can I say about the performers that Twangy can't do better for me - so I willrefrain on the hope that Twangy will do his review which is always worth reading. Thank you Gwenda & Terry Cater for doing the PA - excellent job me thinks. AS for Sue Dewsbury as MC - what can I say, but respek. It was a tough old night to control, but Sue managed it with such calm and charisma. Great turnout - what a buzz. Safe journey home to Ron Trueman-Border and Suzi - 3 and a half hour journey home - gulp.. Most of us hadn't seen Ron before, but I am sure he left his mark on the evening. We sure know him know and a big big thankyou. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Fri 3rd Nov 06 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 03 Nov 06 - 01:57 PM Yup of course now I will have to try and record something properly to put on the music player as at moment just got to very rough tracks on it. In fact all my recordings are very rough . |

Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Fri 3rd Nov 06 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 03 Nov 06 - 11:29 AM Eh What? V re My space was thinking more of the networking for the performers and passing on the good word about MRFC. The proper MRFC site is most excellent and I look at it a lot. It was just getting advice from people you rate as performers and listening to each others latest ideas is fun on the MY Space thingy. I was thinking more of an informal type thing. BTW like the hyper links on web site is dead cooooool. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Fri 3rd Nov 06 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 03 Nov 06 - 09:27 AM What you need to do is write a song about it mike that would take your mind off it and you could look back on all the humerous things that come from horrible crippling pain. LOL Errrrr or maybe not. Hope you are well soon and getting that TA bloke up to speed on his twangling. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Fri 3rd Nov 06 From: Rasener Date: 03 Nov 06 - 05:18 AM GS, I am sure Mrs Travelling Audience would call you a whimp. :-) Seriously Mike, get better quickly. Must have been Hot Chocolate that caused it. :-) |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Fri 3rd Nov 06 From: Georgiansilver Date: 03 Nov 06 - 04:27 AM Sorry Les but will not make it tonight after all....My lower back decided to give me problems and it looks like the joys of aging will keep me off the streets for a few days. Walking in a sadly crippledd manner but spending much time in bed to try avoiding the pain. Hope everyone enujoys themselves. Best wishes, Mike. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Fri 3rd Nov 06 From: Rasener Date: 03 Nov 06 - 04:22 AM I would rather keep control myself Tim. I am quite happy with the website and do not want to go on myspace. My website is easy to change and very quick to upload and does what I need it to. I certainly do NOT want anybody to create a website on myspace. I used to have a really nice website created by a pro at it and for nowt. trouble is, I had to get him to make changes. Never again. However, I will create a link to your website on my website and you can do the same and link MRFC from your website. If you lolok at the website you will see it is already done. |
Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Fri 3rd Nov 06 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 03 Nov 06 - 03:39 AM Hey has any one thought of making a My Space music site for the Folk club? Then we could add our own sites to it etc You can hear some really bad recordings on my site. http://www.myspace.com/thetwanglers He he he But an expert in Computer thingys could easily make a realy good site for MRFC. |

Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club Fri 3rd Nov 06 From: Rasener Date: 02 Nov 06 - 12:09 PM GeorgianSilver have you spoken with "brother louie" yet? He has been telling me about "Emma" & "Cheri Babe", who as you might know are the "disco queens". Anyway there are a lot of "rumours" that they hang out at the "Blue Note" nightclub. Speaking "man to man" with you, he said that "Emma" had the "Hot Chocolates" for you, but thought that you were only "going through the motions" and there was "no doubt about it" that you were "girl crazy". She said "it started with a kiss" and when you said that "heavens in the back see of my cadillac",she couldn't resist. So when you were in the cadilac, you said "Are You Getting Enough Of What Makes You Happy" and she said "Dont stop it now" "you sexy thing". When she said "put your love in me" you knew "every ones a winner". |
