Subject: RE: The Rankin Family Returns From: ard mhacha Date: 08 Nov 06 - 05:26 AM To listen to The Rankin Family singing in Gaelic is one of the joys of life, try, Mo run geal dilis, Chi mi na morbheanna, and Ho ro my nut brown maiden, they are a pure delight. |
Subject: RE: The Rankin Family Returns From: GUEST,thurg Date: 07 Nov 06 - 10:40 PM Don't think he's any relation - he's a Prince Edward Islander, and of the previous generation (roughly) (not that either of those facts exclude him from family membership ... ) (if we're both thinking of the same Alan Rankin) (this is the last parenthetical remark, I promise). |
Subject: RE: The Rankin Family Returns From: frogprince Date: 07 Nov 06 - 09:49 PM Is Alan Rankin, who wrote "Raise the Dead of Wintertime", a family member? I absolutely love that song. |
Subject: RE: The Rankin Family Returns From: GUEST,Texas Guest Date: 06 Nov 06 - 11:09 PM The Rankin family has long been one of my favorite groups and I have tried year after year to get the "powers that be" with the North Texas Irish Festival to bring them down here - but to no avail. John Morris may be gone, but I'd bet they can still pull off the Celtic stuff quite well - it's those wonderful female voices. Their version of, "As I Roved Out" is one of my favorites; and, "Padstow" they do up quite well. Welcome back Rankins and here's hoping you all can make it down to Texas. Cheers. |

Subject: RE: The Rankin Family Returns From: Gorgeous Gary Date: 02 Nov 06 - 07:45 PM Sounds cool! David Francey and Gordon Lightfoot covers...I can deal with that. Plus the original songs; I've enjoyed the albums of theirs I have. And in the small world department...we know the reporter from the Herald who wrote the article. We actually stayed with him for a couple of days when we made our one and only visit to Nova Scotia in 2003. -- Gary |
Subject: RE: The Rankin Family Returns From: Kelticgrasshopper Date: 02 Nov 06 - 06:24 PM I just adore the vocal harmonies from The Rankins. I agree that there will be a hole in the group missing John Morris. But somehow I think he'd want this to happen. They are an amazing family. Love The RED SHOE in Mabou!! KGH |
