Please tell Bill he hasn't been forgotten. Santa has been ill along with other troubles. An already packed package will be going out as soon as I can manage it. My apologies for unavoidable delays!

One trouble about international shipping is there isn't a way to track it. Maybe enclose a self-addressed post card that can be returned? Just an idea. 300. :)

We cannot be picky, I know. I would have enjoyed having a Santee who actually responded to their gifts. I know they received them, but that is all. Their last post was in December.

If folks are going to play they ought to at least stick to the commitment of sending. I feel real bad about folks who didn't even receive anything and I probably will not do it next year.

Maybe three and a half. I received something in the mail with a note that said that the rest was on it's way. Nothing yet. Not a big deal, it's all about the participation and what I got was plenty. I just hope that people don't get discouraged about the process and give up on next year.

It's time someone put this poor woman out of her misery.

A package is on its way. PRIORITY. Those reindeer were just loafing, anyway. No stops on the way, straight through to PA.

Liz, need a rescue Santa for anyone? PM me if so.

JennyO, you're right, it could get really scrambled. Before Easter, someone Lent me some eggs. Don't know what to do with them. I have to "apoach" this very carefully.

Snuffy -- Yay!!

And Happy Horny Satyr Day!*

But it arrived on Wednesday, not Saturday!

Judging by the postmark it was mailed at the weekend from the Mudgather in Portaferry!! How did it get there?

Ho, Ho, Ho! Secret Elves can be just as tricksy as Secret Santas! ;-)

Seriously. That's one weight off my mind... I'm glad you like it.

was NOT me. As is usually the case on the help area too.

Found no chocolate till I just opened the truck box. Customs had opened that too I guess. Probably the sniffer dogs found it, I'd say. Dare say the new X-ray machines may have freaked out too. the other items with the various Maine images on were all there, thanks. They did say - nothing removed.

We don't get Hershey much here in Oz. Will have to take a photo of the truck and put it up somewhere.

Sorry customs kifed your gold bullion, I hoped they enjoyed it. I didn't realize that it was forbidden to send chocolate to OZ... What else did they help themselves to, I wonder? Were there two photos, a magnet, a memo pad and a US Quarter? The quarter should have been taped to the magnet and memo pad.

A hint as to my identity -- I am a regular at SINSULL's song circles.

Well....

I went away on the 19th Dec, and when I returned there was a card saying that a parcel had arrived on the 20th that needed a signature. I was lucky that the local Post Office had used common sense and not sent it back after 5 days - most sane Aussies KNOW that school hols etc mean that many people are away at that time, and waited till near end Jan before sending it back! So today I retrieved it!

Of course, it HAD been opened by Customs, but nothing removed (so they say!). Even a booklet and note explaining that it had been opened and what is/is not allowed to be sent!

I'm pretty sure they opened that clear little plastic bag, cause the ribbon had not been tied up again! But once they detected that it was only a plastic dog turd.... probably the same with the 'lobster'...
:-) Wait on, the contents list says "one bar soap".... hmmm, no soap, unless..... hmmm, doesn't mention dog turd anywhere...

Thanks for the cute 'Dump Truck', maybe those Customs guys forgot to tell me that they took away the Gold Bullion...

That's a different Maple Syrup - I think i will share it with friends at my Birthday - which is not far away - I will ask them to cook me pancakes! Probably a good use for that Wild Maine Blueberry Jam too! BTW, my goddaughter loves blueberries, and jam, she loves it when I make her up those 'shaker-pack' blueberry pancakes!

That's a wonderful jester too! That will go on the wall!

Thanks too for the coin and the images of Maine in various forms.

I WILL read the newspapers too - love to see them from other places when used as wrappings - ephemera are just that!

Very nice, thank you!

Unfortunately, you have me totally beat on guessing who you are!

"My name is my profession!"

Oooooo, er, aaaahhhh! Too Much Information...

Salu, ClaireBear!

I got the idea for giving my Secret Santee a pile o' travel brochures, etc. from my neck of the woods (literally!) from one of MY Secret Santas. I appreciated it so much I HAD to continue it. I wanted to include some shells or beach rocks, too, but I haven't had a lot of beach time lately.

For the record, the "romance" is "Yezad, A Romance of the Unknown" -- one of the stranger proto-science fiction novels around.

Glad you found waiting for everything worth it!

You know when you fly to another country how you lose a day, or gain a day, and teck-a-nickel stuff like that? Well, I reckon those presents that haven't made it to their recipients yet are flyng around, gaining days, and will make it in time for next Christmas!

Oh my, Santa, what bounty!

Everything is grand -- the garnet-studded rock, sage from your garden, the vintage Fowler, silly dictionaries and obligatory maple product (what a pretty bottle!) are all much appreciated. I've started the "romance" already, of course.

I particularly appreciate the wonderful collection of brochures and publications from your area (wish I'd thought to do more of that for my Santee). Intrigue abounds, from megalithic monuments to museums, and each calls to me "come visit New Hampshire" (something I've always wanted to do, anyway).

Thank you, my dear Bat Goddess. We are indeed much alike. And if Curmudgeon helped with the selection, please waft a bit of my gratitude in his direction. My Christmas is now complete.

A PM will follow once I'm home again admiring the goodies -- I'm at work now, and have to go to choir practice after, so it won't be 'til very late.

I thank you for your note, SS,
And now am filled with happiness
At hearing that you've not forgotten
Me (but that P.O. is rotten!).
Now I even feel like rhyming
Once again, now that the timing
Of your gift's receipt is near.
'Twill truly be a great new year!

But, speaking of the rhyming word,
Some of your rhymes do sound absurd
To my Northeastern US ear.
I'm guessing you're not from 'round here!
If "soon" and "down" are rhymes to you,
Perhaps you are a Scotsman true.
"Along" and "boomerang", however...
Could they rhyme someplace else? Ever?

Hmmmm...

I am a rather sad Secret Santa today because after no mail service here in the US for 4 days I got a ton of stuff which included the Parcel that I had sent to my Santee in the UK....in time for Christmas.
It was returned to me because they said I had not listed all contents on the customs form.
I checked the contents (again) and I read the customs form I wrote (again....)and I HAD listed everything inside the parcel...SO...There is a postal employee at my Local Post Office who wished that they had been closed another day..:) and......
There is THE parcel on it's way again and if they send it back to me a second time I will bring it over to my Santee myself....
I am a wee bit upset...:(
So if your a sad UK Santee who thinks they have been forgotten and fear ye shall remain presentless....please wait...please...for one present is definetly on it's way... again!!

O Frabjuous Day! I got back from Canada last night and - as is my custom - opened my presents, including my box from my Secret Santa.

Great stuff! A pair of Bear Claw salad/pasta tossers and a Mini Ulu knife, presumably for the skinning of mini sea critters. Good grief - is that baby sharp or what???

And the Bear Smooches are no more. Deeeee-LISH !

Now - the weird thing about Mudcat is that I now know who my SS is, but I don't know who she is. If you get my drift. I thought I knew, but ...

And I know someone who knows (apart from The Squeak) but I bet she won't tell me.

Tis a wunnerful mystery still!

Well, Animaterra, I can't take credit for the beading, because I bought the beaded fringe, so I only put it all together, but, yes, I made it. I did write that in the card, didn't I? I think I did, anyway.

When I remembered that in your hints you said that your favourite colour is cranberry but you also like blue & green, then how could I not jump with excitement when I saw that lovely material (which, for the benefit of anyone else reading this, is cranberry on one side and blue on the other). I was in the fabric shop looking for something else but there it was, waiting for you - well, waiting for me to find it for you. And it goes well with the boysenberry teddy bear, I thought.

So, I'm really, really glad you like it.

And, I'm still not sure what you mean by reading "English cosies" but Rosamund Pilcher's books are English, and give me a cosy feeling when I read them.

And by the way, it is now New Year here in Newcastle, Oz, so Happy New Year to you, with much love,
Helen

Many thanks to my very generous Secret Santa, who I think must be Wuzzle, AKA Gilly Kemp, as the main attraction in the parcel was Gilly's wonderful CD! She has a beautiful voice and has written some lovely songs!

There were a lot of other things in the package too, including some fine English tea in cute little tins, incense in a pretty box, several Christmas ornaments -- even Marmite in little individual servings! My clueless relatives were fascinated!

Thank you Gilly!

Nancy

Animaterra,

I'm so pleased you liked them. The scarf just had to be made for you when I found that material. And Rosamund Pilcher is an absolute favourite author for both me and my late mother.

Snuffy, I worked you out way back when you posted the riddle, then when I saw the package it was confirmed.

I didn't figure out your Antipodean Elf though. I think your Santee thought it was me, although I kept assuring her that it wasn't. I still haven't figured how an elf product was placed by hand in the letterbox. Although she's in Oz, she lives a long way from us.

By coincidence, your Elf did some secret Elf work a couple of years ago for SRS, who was my Super Substitute Secret Santa. She was visiting the US at the time. She's very good at it. Maybe I should have figured out it was her this time, but I didn't.

On the other hand, my Santee SINSULL still doesn't know who MY elves were. I wonder if she will ever find out!!

Oh Jenn, so glad you like everything. Glad the spices made it in intact too. The clause about plant material on the declaration had me a bit worried. We'd really love to call in and see you. We so nearly did manage it last visit. Hildebrand has a dear friend in Gila so you never know. Hard to get Hildebrand to leave home though. Let me know if there's a comment or ingredient in the cookbooks that is a bit cryptic.
Have a wonderful New Year.

Lovely little shiny trees! and the cats liked the big cloth bag best of all--Abby was in there in a flash right under the tree on Christmas morning.

I'll keep you posted as I actually try the kitchen stuff, because you know I will.

Art says to mention that the next time you're in our neighborhood, we hope you can stop to see us.

Thank you again for all the lovely loot.

Another score for Noo Joysey here today, too, and then the detective work began. Unless I am badly mistaken, it is my friend MMario (a fellow well met at last year's Getaway) who has failed to completely cover his tracks, and has sent me two CDs! The bad news is that I am at work this morning, and my colleague (who is entranced by acid Bangra) kicked off when I put the first CD on the computer, so I have yet to enjoy them, but I did want to thank Leo for sending me such a personal gift, and also the SS card which had me fooled, as the only person I thought I knew in NJ is a dodgy bloke who knocks out Yellow Grease the wrong side of the New Jersey Turnpike.

Thank you, my friend.

Hello Hollofox,

Glad you liked the gifts. Jacquie Lawson's cards are amusing aren't they?

I do hope the embroidery 'silks' bring some kind of luck ~ so glad you're enjoying them.

Now to embroider a little more ~

The first card & the flower, not an English emblem but close to my real first name.

Yes, the magnet is a clue, a comical beast, it may just seal my fate? And give you the answer you're looking for.

Enjoy the other gifts, you'll find another clue in the website lists ~ you have my land-locked location ~ you wouldn't find my Mudcat identity here ~ go all the way back to Scotland, the answer is in the islands.

Have a 'Really Superb'& Happy New Year, looking forward to hearing from you again when you've had time to reseach the clues.

Enjoy ~

With Love for 2007   Santa xxxxxxxxxxx

Thank You Jacquie Lawson! I love Morris Dance, although I don't do it. I've got lots of friends who do, though. (Well somebody's got to be the audience, eh?) You must know the way to a librarian's heart; the first thing I found was a handout with website addresses for more information. Perfect!
The other stuff? Oh, yeah...I got some very elegant chocolate, some fliers for local places of interest, like Lavender Hill. Ooh, that sounds wonderful. Some beautiful embroidery floss that I started using on Christmas Day. Will that bring folkloric good luck? Some local newspapers so I can catch up on her local news (I love that kind of stuff). Not one but Three cd's of local music, including some pieces played by her father. A calendar, a refrigeratorr magnet that was supposed to be a clue, but I didn't get it yet, and um, other lovely stuff that's under the tree, but I'm typing this on my afternoon break at work. Thanks soo much!

Thank you so much to my Really Superb Secret Santa.   Now that I know who you are, I found out when the badge arrived after my parcel. Thank you Tig, I'll wear the special badge with pride & no, no-one will badger me for it :-)

All those lovely thoughtful gifts were wonderful. The 3 owls & the little bag of of things for future happiness, all so nice. I have several crystals Tig & loved the bracelet, but amethyst is probably my favourite.

The books on silk flower making are lovely & I appreciate your Mum's little book of notes, how sweet of you to pass it on. I will treasure it & try to do it justice & certainly enjoy making up some of the designs (yes I do have floristry wires, etc.)

Maybe we'll meet up somewhere in 2007? Hopefully at Alcester (my "local festival") I'm on the Festival committee there.

Have a Happy & Prosperous New Year, with love to you, Badger & Firecat.

With Love to you all,

Rosie xxx

Woo hoo! I just checked my mailbox - first delivery since Christmas - and there was the second part of my SS pressie, the soundtrack from the movie "Amelie" which I had asked for in my hints (and of course it rhymes with "family" :-)) I'm listening to it right now - it's beautiful! Thank you Santa Chanteyranger! Just hurry up and get better so I can thank you properly.

It's not just that I love this music - it also has special associations for me right now, because while my brother and his family were visiting from France in July and August, one of his very talented daughters was playing some of the piano pieces from it on my piano - so yes, very special. It reminds me of Graham, Brigitte, Alice and Sonia, and makes me wish they weren't so far away.

Oh dear - getting all teary now...

Hello Santee Mary. I'm glad you liked your pressies - even the newspaper wrappings! As you already have experienced, the Melbourne Cup is an extraordinary phenomenon - everything grinds to a halt when it is on. I don't know about scheduling surgery, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if they avoided that time. If you are driving when it's on, you all of a sudden find that the roads are virtually empty. People who have absolutely no interest in horseracing suddenly develop an interest, and nearly everyone is in at least one Sweep. The only conversation for that day is "What horse did you have?"

Have you tried the Roo Poo yet? And I hoped you enjoyed the Yarri CD. I think it's something pretty special. I think John is an amazing songwriter, and I'm not just saying that because I live with him ;-)

Yes, you can say someone is a galah and mean it as an insult, but not you, of course. I just like his colours and think of him as a very typical native bird for around these parts. They make a range of native birds with their sounds which we can get in a very interesting shop here - Australian Geographic. In fact, that's where the stone came from too.

Have you found out yet who my elves with the postcards were? If not, I might out them soon. I'm sure they won't mind :-)

Anyway, I hope you had a wonderful Christmas - it sounds like your New Year is getting off to a good start! My elves might even be there at your song circle (hint hint).

Jenny (SSSSS)

What a smashing box of goodies. I wore the amythist (or however you spell it) earings all Christmas Day, they are beautiful. The scarf, CDs earings and other gifts are lovely. What a good idea to send a local magazine, it gives a real flavour of where you live. I'll get to play the CDs in the car when I run dad home tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it.

I am still trying to figure out precisely who you are. I found your street on Google Earth and it looks like a very nice place to live. If you had your Mudcat name written on your roof I would be able to tell if you lived up near the lake or at the other end.
Have a great New Year.

Moi, Mr Patterson? What did I do?

I got my present today, courtesy of Skipjack K8 and via SINSULL. In accordance with the Santa's Silly Secretary hints thread where I had put '6) Likes: champagne; making love at midnight,' I got a bottle of very nice champagne and some very questionable items from the local condom shop. One of those items really does stretch the imagination a long way. I think that they will have to go on display with the rest of the wonderful crap that I have been the recipient of over the past couple of years, although I may be hard put to explain the significance of a blue condom with a frilly top if the vicar ever comes to tea.

Many thanks Greg, we had a really good laugh at Kendall's daughter's today when I opened the package, although I think that they might have thought that they were getting too much information. Grown up children seem not to equate their parents with such items! The champagne will be savoured!

WOW! I resisted the package with the Australian post mark manfully - though when I opened it today I discovered I could have unwrapped it earliers, as it was filled with beautifully wrapped packages from my secret Santa.

Who was none other then the FAIR ONE, herself, Alison of OZ!!!! Among other things, australian themed cookie cutters, a kangaroo wire sculpture that can function as a book mark, a paper clip or a stitch holder, a learn Bodrhan CD (by the Fair One Herself!) another CD....WOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!! AND little postit notes scattered here and there in addition to a lovely note from Alison - and greetings to my Mom and Dad who had contacted her a couple years ago at Christmas time while they were traveling...

Sarah, we are glad you enjoyed the package...and Jenn says that "all having a go" on the noseflute is hardly hygienic.

And I would like to thank the wonderful Barb'ry for her package...do you really live in a 750-year-old house? And how is the plumbing? The book of Lancashire dialect is fun - we transponders often have trouble with "BBC English", and are totally lost with other forms of the language as spoken (or formerly spoken) over there.

Now, if only my Santee would check in, all would be complete.

Many many thanks to Art & Jen Brooks for a great box of pressies. Absolutely LOVED the music books and all the New Mexican folklore, the ocharina (a REAL one - not like the plastic stuff over here) and well what can I say about the noseflute? We have all had a go and managed renditions of something ....Now the big decision is whether to duet Danny Boy on noseflute with swanee whistle, or melodica or bombarde ...too much for Christmas Day!

Hope you had as merry a christmas as your gifts made ours!

I shall snuggle up with the story of the magical cat, indullge in the fudge, put my keys on the beautiful silver keychain, and decorate random things with the very pretty stickers.

Christmas is probably on the wane, where you are, right now (though perhaps you are just sitting down to the feast). But I hope that the bits that happened already brought you joy, and that the rest of Christmas brings you some more.

A big Alaska thank you to my Secret Santas. Yes, plural!! It seems that in the course of nearly kicking the bucket, I never signed up for Secret Santa this year. So several folks from different continents appointed themselves to the task. In addition to the many cards, postcards and letters I received, there was also a package containing a variety of wonderful gifts. I would like to offer my most sincere thanks to those of you who cared so much. Merry Christmas to you all and may the new year bring you much joy and happiness.

Dear Shy and Secretive Santa,

You're DAMN good!, while I've been merely good. Not only did you you get the goodies through the international mails without having to give yourself away, there's still no indication in the package of exactly who you are except the box of great goodies (or is that good greaties?) that reveal your Sussexual persuasion, if not your name, or even gender. You can't get much more local color than a Scan Tester tribute CD, which I'm scanning and testing as I write, as well as local postcards to get the flavor and lay of the land and some tasty looking local confections to boot! (I'll have to PM Kendall & Jaqui about the Kendal Mint Cakes after I've tried them and vouched for both the taste and the boasted about "energy boost"). Postal Restrictions being what they are, a T-Shirt and a bookmark (Since you've given me a sense of place, I appreciate you giving me a way not to lose it) from Harvey's Sussex Bitter will have to do until I can sample the real thing.

Last May, I was able to experience the area my Santa lived in and described in my present on my UK trip. I hope to get back some time this year, so maybe I can get to see Seaford and Lewes without having to go up to nearby Delaware to do so and find mere nostalgia inspired imitations.

Having partially "scanned and tested", I can say I want to learn "A Rakish Young Fellow" already!

Thank You, Masked Person!

Dearest, Saintly, No-Longer-Secret Santa Becca,

Yiphee, finally Christmas came around and I could throw myself at that interesting box which had been sitting quietly in a corner for a month, and, boy, was it worth the wait :-))

Thank you ever so much for all the lovely pressies, an impressive selection, indeed:

A Kendall Morse CD - playing for the umpteenth time already as I write this :-)
Sharon Penmann volumes 1 and 3 of a series (to go with the volume 2 I already have)
A lovely Maine Lighthouse keyring
A Fridge magnet with a loon giving its chick a ride, a bit like this grebe is
A box of Nantucket postcards
Two Christmas tea towels
A Christmas ornamental bulb with pot pourri in it
A balsam & cedar Housewarmer candle

I am overwhelmed by the dedication and thoughfulness that's gone into selecting all those pressies for me, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for that. The loon is already residing on my fridge, my keys shall presently be moving into the care of the Maine Lighthouse Association, and the books are just waiting to be picked up and read.

Once again, thank you Santa Dear. I hope your haul this Christmas will be as good as mine :-))

I also hope to see you again sometime in the not-too-distant future.

Best wishes,

Bente

Santa Clues' quest is over, but my adventure is still at the early stages. Nothing has arrived at my door (or window, or chimney) as yet, but so long as it does arrive before Old Twelfth Night then it will still qualify as a seasonal gift, won't it?

If it will keep fresh that long, perhaps it is a seasoned gift - Pemmican? Biltong?

As you so rightly remark "So no worries. But I do wonder..." . Me too, Santa.

What fun this has been. My first year participating, and I drew someone from AUSTRALIA! Sandra in Sydney gave wonderful hints to follow.

As a result of the SS game, I tried to think what Christmas would be like in Australia, and I developed an interest in Australian Christmas Carols. I learned the beautiful Wheeler & James Carol of the Birds from Bob Bolton's postings.

It was also delightfully tickly for me to PM Sandra regarding one of her posts regarding Contra Dancing - me knowing she was my Santee, but she not knowing ME. Thanks, Liz for being SECSYA!!

I couldn't wait any longer. JennyO is my SS and the wrapping paper is as much fun as the gifts!
The Melbourne Cup - I was in Sydney in the early 70s visiting a sugar refinery (long story) when all of a sudden everything stopped. No one works during the Melbourne Cup. Made me wonder if they schedule surgery during the race. JennyO sent me a newspaper supplement with stats on all the horses and jockeys. Thank you. Fond memories.

Shit seems to be a theme this year. Mine is Roo Pooh. Supposedly edible but I will let Jacqui decide.
I have a Galah, noisy one at that. Seems to me I remember that being called a Galah is a bit of an insult. Yes? Lovely pink and will sit next to my noisy Blue Jay.
A beautiful Trangie Goodwill Stone in shades of blue with Aboriginal symbols. Very beautiful and will be treasured.
Local folk club news(I have Miss Jenny's phone number), some union songs written by John Warner ( re: My Smithfield Ham campaign?) and best of all a CD of "Yarri of Wiradjuri", John Warner's telling of the great flood of 1852 and the hero Yarri.
Tonight I will sit quietly and enjoy it.

Thank you, Jenny and Merry Christmas

Sandra, she only beat you because she cheated and opened her presents too early. Oh Freda, how could you??

Still, I suppose a few minutes is neither here nor there in the cosmic scheme of things. I'm so glad you liked them - but have you noticed that the "fantastic calendar" is for 2006? It was a one-off for the Fed's 40th anniversary and gives you a good idea of the folk scene in our area. And I suppose you can still get a week's use out of it before you cut it up and use the pictures!

I'll PM you about the rest of the package.

Thank you Secret Santa. At 11.20-ish pm Christmas Eve, I decided the time was right to open a very intriguing box from my SS. Snuffy, I prepared some special words for this moment...

I was tempted and tried, and oft made to wonder,
To examine your riddle and pull it asunder…
Your first is in Santa and Claus they say - s
Your second's in reindeer but not in sleigh - n
Your third's in Underhill but not in Freda - u
Your fourth is in follower but not in leader - f
Your fifth is in fourth but not in third - f
Your sixth is in dicky but not in bird – y
Your dance is Shakespearean,
You sing a bawdy song
With an ale in your gullet
And a repertoire that's long
Words, whisky and wiles!
Fancy footwork beguiles!
The puzzles, the clues
The mystery, the Muse,
A trickster without rest,
Santa Clues, you're the best!
Mr Snuffy, good cheer
Happy Day, and Happy Year!!

.. and meanwhile, with a mouth full of the best dark chocolate i have tasted (Hamilton's, from the Cotswalds) I have been lifting layers of goodies including - 3 great folk Cds (Vaughan Hully - now who could that be? great voice!!)a beautiful lavender soaplet and hand embroidered pouch, a booklet on pub walks in the Cotswalds, a fantatstic calender from the west midlands folk fed, a Bidford on avon tea towel, a beautiful leaflet about the snowshill lavender fields.. a local magazine, a little diary (this will go in my bag). these things are all wonderful and make me want to go and check out the area and the music! CDs all look very interesting, including one with a cover piccie of a cute looking guy in chain mail!

snuffy, for various reasons it was a very tough day. your music and pressies have made it a lovely one!

Thaaaaanks!

freda

11.47 and looking forward to a musical Christmas!

Thank You Secret Santa (the Second)?

My official Secret Santa package arrived in November. I guessed who my Santa was, and my Santa confirmed hir identity.

So when a small read and white postal packet arrived in today's mail, I thought it was from another UK friend of mine, with whom I've been trading pressies for years.

...Except the package was addressed to "CapriUni," and my other UK friend (not a Mudcatter) always addresses his packets to my given name. So I'm assuming the little red and white postal pack was sent by a mudcatter (no return address, though).

Thank you, whoever you are. I will be good, and wait until Christmas morning to open it...

Helen,

I'm so glad it got there in time! The Dave Lieber book is an interesting introduction to moving to Texas--he's from New York City via Philadelphia, so you'll see the trials and errors of getting acclimated to Texas and Texans (I'm still working on it!) The other one is a collection of radio essays that many of us heard over the years on All Things Considered here in the U.S.. Bailey White is from Georgia, quite a distance from Texas, but they're such funny and sweet stories, particularly good for reading out loud.

The CD is still pretty rough, not polished since it was first made a couple of years ago right before the first computer I was working on was stolen. I have to get back to those recording projects. That may not play in an automobile CD player, for some reason, but I have good luck in the house in various other players.

Enjoy!

SRS

Stilly River Sage,

I went to the Post Office and there was your parcel waiting for me. So, no more trying to guess who you are!

I confess I opened it - well, after a little delay in trying to convince myself to save it for Christmas, but it has been a very hectic week that I succumbed to temptation to open it.

Thanks you so much for the books from your local area. I had a quick look at them last night before I went to sleep. I will enjoy reading them, I know, and I'll be thinking of you as I read them, because they are a part of your local culture.

The chocolates wrapped as little Christmas presents are lovely. I am saving them till after Christmas.

But the most amazing gift is the CD of your father's music. Thank you, thank you!! I am saving listening to that, too. I want to find a quiet time to listen to it properly, so at this point I have no idea what sort of music he played or sang, except that I looked your photos up on the Mudcat photos page and saw a photo of your Dad playing a guitar. That is going to be a real treat!

So, thank you, Maggie for your lovely presents, and even though I have opened the packages, I still have the pleasure to look forward to in reading the books, listening to your Dad's music, eating the chocolates, and even reading the part of the newspaper used to enclose one of the presents.

Helen

Well, this is the last day for postal delivery before Christmas, and while I have the first half of my pressie, I was told there was another, rhyming with 'family' and I think I know what it is.

Santa, if you're out there - is there another small package on the way? If so, it hasn't arrived yet.

Wow! now it's got bizzare!
There was a ring at the door, I took a look out, no one there, blamed it on "kids".
Went out later & lo & behold a sack of coal on the step (out of view when I opened the door) so the elves have been!
Also an Xmas hat in black & white (very Guinness) with the words "BAH HUMBUG" on it ( will wear it for Xmas lunch ), also a card.
O/K not a clue, now I have a sack of coal to find a home for, I WILL make sure that it goes to someone who needs it.
Whoever you are, thank you very much, along with the goat shit you have done a lot of good.
Skipy.
P.S. admit it White horse ff please!

RangerSteve - the bourbon bottle was something of a family heirloom to Mary - it belonged to her late brother and she really wanted to pass it on to someone who would treasure it.

As I write she is on the other end of the phone in tears at your cavalier treatment of her heartfelt gift!

Sinsull, I'm honored to have a Secret Santa who's presence on the Mudcat helps make it so worthwhile. While I do get up to Maine once in a while, it's not worth the effort to look for your house. I'll just regift it next year. I won't tell next years Santee where it came from. Maybe we can get it over the the UK and out of our sight forever. Maybe there's a place where it would be considered high art.

Hey there, Secret Santa! Your package arrived today. I opened it, since it said "Amazon.com" on the box and I sometimes order stuff from them. (Obviously didn't check the return address too carefully.)

Howevuh, it was a big Christmas stocking, loaded for bear with candy, a plastic ducky, a wonderful-looking CD of sea chanteys by The Boarding Party on the Paton's label, and a book of Maryland folklore.

Thank you very much, Secret Santa. I will enjoy everything to the full, the sea music and the book, the candy, the duck, the Christmas kleenex--the works. The stocking is hanging from the mantel right now, and will do so every year from now on.

A package arrived from Mary Sullivan in Portland, Maine yesterday.
Thank You, Mary. Just what I asked for, plus a few things I didn't. Two church cook books, one from 1913, and both seemed to have great recipes. A Kendall Morse cassette tape, which I listened to today while I ran my errands. It's great. Some more vintage postcards for my collection. A moose refrigerator magnet, which is now on my fridge. A Maine 150th anniversary commemorative bourbon bottle, which is pretty ugly and I'll probably send it to someone else next year (Sorry, Mary, but it is pretty ugly). A piece of Maine Tourmaline (sp?) which I'm using as a paperweight. A book on the history of a Maine lighthouse where Mary volunteers, (I'm into lighthouses, so, thanks again), some sea glass, (I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it), a small tote bag from a Bar Harbor restaurant. I hope I didn't forget anything. Thanks, again.

But somewhere sharing the same postal system, eh? Although of course you might have asked someone else to post it for you ...Or maybe it's not from you but some hapless relative of mine? No, no, I'd recognise the handwriting!

I'm so glad it arrived safely and contained items of interest for both Limpit and you. I thought about making a "how to" paper for the origami stars, but I reckoned the illustrated instructions on the back should suffice. It's true, however, that the last bit where the paper must be rounded to form the last tips of the stars can be a bit tricky. If they won't slip into place without folding, it's sometimes a help to hold a match or the like inside the tip for it to "lean on" and hold it there while pulling it almost taut. Also, don't pull *too* hard.. :-))

Believe me, Liz, your parcel does have something to do with pigs. But your nose is not deceiving you, either, I think :o))

Say, did you dive into the crossword on those crumbled pages of newspaper? Beware, I might just send you an entire book with Danish crosswords :o))

Best wishes,

Bente

Limpit would like to pass on her thanks to her Secret Santa, who wasn't so secret!!!

SECSY Liz would also like to express her utmost gratitude and heartfelt thanks because it's just so much that we can all share!!!

We got the parcel yesterday, she had to tidy up before she could open it. Now our sitting room has a distinctly Danish look about it. Little Danish flags adorn the mantlepiece, the most beautiful tiny brass decorations are waiting to be put on the tree and the table is littered with bits of paper strip from making the lovliest origami stars! It was a bit cruel sending us a decoration kit with instructions only in Danish*, as you know my Scandinavian is limited to what the Swedish Chef on the Muppets sings... (Ers pedish pederk, pedish pederk, bork bork bork), but we muddled through the first 8 stages of 12.... Then I remembered a 'Decorating for Christmas' book I have which has a Scandinavian section. Sure enough, there in slightly more complicated language, were the instructions for making the same traditional ribbon star! Guess what we'll be doing this afternoon! The little strings of Danish flags now means I can make that tower of what looks like iced doughnuts decorated with Scandinavian flags and eat myself sick!

By the way.... should my parcel of "bacon" smell quite like that? Because it smells distinctly un-piggy and rather chocolatey!!!

The rest of the packages are put by and she'll be able to open some on Christmas Eve.

Thank you so much, Secret Scandinavian Santa Bente!

*not so cruel as the Wordsearch and crosswords in the newspaper packing!!!

The other thing I couldn't fail to notice was that the address is VERY familiar. So I think I was right all along about your identity, Santa (unless you have sent this for somebody else). No wonder Liz was chuckling about some of the matches. How wonderfully perfect!

So I gather I am to expect another package from the North Pole then? I promise I won't open it till Christmas either. Ooh, this is so much fun! Thank you, my poetic Secret Santa!

Hi Vectis

Just a little not to say, while the reindeer have accomplished their delivery, Santa is still thinking of you!

Meanwhile, down here near the South Pole, bushfires are burning!

I hope you have a happy white Christmas up North!

your SS

btw

Some friars were behind on their belfry payments, so they opened
up a small florist shop to raise the funds. Since everyone liked to buy flowers from the "Men of God," the rival florist across town thought the competition was unfair. He asked the good fathers to close down, but they would not. He went back and begged the friars to close. They ignored him. He asked his mother to ask the friars to get out of business. They ignored her, too. So the rival florist hired Hugh MacTaggart, the roughest and most vicious thug in town to "persuade" them to close.

Hugh beat up the friars and trashed their store, saying he'd be back
if they didn't close shop. Terrified, they did so, thereby proving
that...

Hugh, and only Hugh, can prevent florist friars.

I've had it a few days, but I've also had a wonkled-out computer at home, and this is the first time I've had a chance to slip in a bit o' Catting in at work. I'm sorry that I mis-read your address when I looked it up on the British postal service website, that was a real brain cramp to think you were in England with the name Dumferline staring me in the face. (blush) I still don't know who you are, and I plan to be good and wait until Christmas to open The Box, but I plan to come to work early the next day so I can thank you properly.

O,Shy & Secretive One,

You posted you were sending it on the third and here it is the 4th and it has arrived already! The Elves and Reindeer are to be commended for their timely efforts!

The basics of what's inside are on the custom form, but the specifics will have to wait until Christmas morning, unless I am instructed otherwise. You got the package through without revealing either the name and return address or the part of the UK you were mailing from. Very well done, indeed!

A pre-thank-you for merely getting it here and thinking of me, with more thanks coming after the opening, when the 5 senses are appeased by the much anticipated contents.

Your Grateful Santee,
Severn

Whey-HEY! I've been Santa'd!

I even have a name ... but I haven't yet sorted out what Mudcat Monikker is used by this person. But - can she ACTUALLY live at North Pole, AK, 99705??? Even the post mark is North Pole!

I haven't been on line all weekend, but this actually arrived on Thursday - 30 November. It was posted (according to the mark) on 24 November. FROM ALASKA??????? Jeepers - thinking of all the parcels and stuff that get lost over a couple of miles, and this gets here in 6 days!

Santa honey, I'm going to keep this safe until I come back from Christmas family visits so I'll probably be opening it on New Year's Eve. I just wanted you to know that it arrived safely, quickly and was a real tonic! (I've been 'laid up' with sinusitis.)

I may just try one of those Polar Bear Smooches though. Just to make sure that they survived the journey OK ... (Clever, those Alaskan Elves.)

Ooooo ... this is SO cool ... !

How very obervant of you to notice the Australian stamps - for unlike your shire, Santa's is not in middle earth, but in Australia's own Shire of Christmas Island. But although notable for the variety and rarity of its native wildlife, I do not believe that Hobbits have ever been spotted there.

I cannot deny that my chief representative on earth is based within Her Britannic Majesty's realms, and indeed enjoyed the same "very special occasion" to which you refer less than a single month ago. But I assure you that the balloon has not been recycled from that celebration - it is brand new and totally unused! Is there a clue in that?

I see you have noticed the armed sentinel standing guard within your package. He is charged, on pain of his life, to ensure that your package remains inviolate until the day foretold for revelations.

The local elf may (or may not) be revealed in the fullness of time, but I can let you know that he/she/it is a Mudcatter.

Santa Clues xx

The moment arrived.. Persephone returned from the Underworld and opened the carefully wrapped parchment (after noting puzzedly that the stamps were Australian) to reveal....

A VERY APTLY NAMED HELIUM BALLOOON!

Santa Clues, I've never seen anything like this in Australia and will keep it for A VERY SPECIAL OCCASION which is 2 years and three months away!

thank you, o mysterious one, and maybe I'd like some more clues as to your identity. my cunning sleuthing has narrowed you down to coming from..

well, either Lapland or the UK - yes, the next parcel has arrived, and it seems to be watching me. Now i will have to be very disciplined not to open this one until the Big day. so far I'm doing very well!

thanks for all the fun, Santa!

freda

ps - i wonder who the local elf was?

The little envelope from the North Pole via Christmas Island may be opened forthwith or even fifthwith if you prefer.

The main consignment is now on its way, but that one should most definitely be retained unopened until the day of your festivities (Christmas, solstice, Lupercalia etc)

THANK YOU SANTA from Maine, your interesting-looking package from across the Pond arrived last night, laboriously hauled up the stairs to my second floor apartment by a profusely sweating mailman :-))

I haven't opened it, and I won't do so until Christmas, although I must admit I was sorely tempted to peek through the crack in the outer paper that the mail people had equipped it with. The box within is in fine fettle, though, so it wouldn't help much, anyway..

The label on the package states that it contains i.a. a CD, and I can barely wait for that - I sincerely hope it's family-related, somehow (as in "Grumpy Old Git", possibly, unless you do your own stuff as well) :-))

For now I shall let you remain nameless, Santa Dear, so as not to help those still guessing too much by eliminating your name from the list of possible candidates.

I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from this side of the Big Pond. I hope to see you all again sometime in the not too distant future :-)

Best wishes,

Bente

That is to walk out of the back door with it & come in the front as the new year arrived.
Time to revive it & pass the lump of coal on to my sons.
So Thank you.

In my defense: the box didn't say "don't open until Christmas" and when I opened it, it was right there in my face...a bunch of colourful packages with intriguing names printed on them...how many of you could resist "Nibble Nobby's Nuts" or trying to figure out how to use Musk flavoured lifesavers as perfume? Vectis

It was a dark and snowy night.. the sled wound its way through sleet and snow.. across desert and sea, through light and day! The reindeer were out and about, so Santa used the local kangaroos & the ride was a little bumpy! Santa was a little arthritic so we elves had to come along too.

while ever so humble, I'm glad the pressie has found its way home..

So far they all taste really good, except the Musk. Just can't get past the sensation of eating perfume. I think it stems from one time in school when we orchestra nerds were selling chocolate bars for a fundraiser. Mine were in my purse, along with nail polisha nd perfum,e both of which broke open and saturated the chocolate bar. The smell put me off chocolate for a good spell!

My three year old grandson is wild about all of them but the ginger. He says it "too spicy!" Great fun shairng with him as he is talking up a storm and manages to repeat everything he hears. Last night when his mom came to get him, he told her she HAD to try the "gummie footies." **bg**

Thanks, again, Fooles. Hope some others get to post their surprises in here, soon, too.

Which explains why Aussies can't find them there, I suppose... save them and make new friends with homesick Aussies... :-)

Buderim Ginger is on the net - and is just up north of me.

"Nibble Nobby's nuts!!" - very famous here...

"Bo-Peep's "mini boiled sweets"" - made by Darrel Lea Chocolates - an Aussie sweet company. Some people buy them just for decoration, but they DO taste good.

WOW!! I got a package from Australia today!! No name, no indication who my Secret Santa is, but I can only guess it came from the "white text hinter of the Nudges thread!" (Someone who was very generous with postage and pressies!)Aha! Just noticed "Toowoomba" on the postage cancellation. Foolestroupe, is that YOU!??!!

Opened it up and oh my! I've got VEGEMITE!! Eat yer heart out, Spaw!! I feel like a kid in a candy store! All kinds of gingery candies and Lifesavers-MUSK?? flavoured and sweet-tart kind of candies which definitely liven up the tastebuds and an oversized darling paperclip and I am listening with a big grin on my face and in my heart to a beautiful CD of music from the Elizabethan Age. I love the "other country" labels on things and the music is just gorgeous. OH! And I get to "Nibble Nobby's nuts!!" And, there is a darling little bottle of Bo-Peep's "mini boiled sweets" which my cat seems to be very interested in...must've come from a cat-owned household.:-)

This so kewl and early to boot. Thanks, very much.

THANK YEW, THANK YEW, SANTA!!
