Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: Rapparee Date: 04 Nov 06 - 04:15 PM Hi, Skarpi! It's cloudy, windy, and cold here in Idaho. Snow on the mountains, too, but none down in the valley, at least not yet. All they're doing at Getaway is drinking, singing, carousing, and pursuing the pleasures of the flesh. Neither you nor I want to get involved with that sort of thing, I'm sure. Besides, I didn't have any holiday time and I had to work. |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: Leadfingers Date: 04 Nov 06 - 04:21 PM Well I was drinking singing and carousing last night - But doing it for MONEY - I would still rather be doing it (even without the booze) at the Getaway !! |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: Jeri Date: 04 Nov 06 - 04:25 PM Got Mick's phone number. I should call him...maybe at 3AM for a no-notice parying inspection. |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: Ebbie Date: 04 Nov 06 - 04:39 PM Yes, Jeri, parry and thrust - that's the ticket. :) Danged. Wish I could be there. (NOT because of the parry and thrust!) |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: katlaughing Date: 04 Nov 06 - 04:40 PM Wish there was a way to set up a webcast! |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: Rapparee Date: 04 Nov 06 - 04:42 PM No, some of us have to carry on while others play. It's like being an organ donor or a designated driver. Besides, if we all went there wouldn't be enough airline seats or housing or anything available. Perhaps we need some tee-shirts that say "I Didn't Go To Getaway 2006 So That Someone Else Could." |

Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: Ebbie Date: 04 Nov 06 - 05:50 PM Good one, Rap, but methinks there is perhaps just a touch of sour grapes? |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: GUEST,beardedbruce Date: 04 Nov 06 - 06:04 PM going off to the getaway in the am. I'll let them know they are missing all the fun..... |

Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: gnu Date: 04 Nov 06 - 07:34 PM 50m/s = 180kph = 112mph = what? I can't hear you. It's too f***ing windy. Play that again and I'll try to join innnnnnnnnn.... |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: Fortunato Date: 05 Nov 06 - 06:44 PM Greetings from the Getaway. Susette and I have just returned. The fun of course is still raging out there on the West River. As you may have seen, the campus is quite beautiful, with river shore and a small bay filled with sailboats for scenary. The cabins are quite warm (good news for aging bones). Each cabin is named for a translation of Peace: Paz; Shalom; etc. There are eight cabins, four on each side of a large common area with chairs and couches. The trees sit in the open woods, some with views of water. There is a dining hall with cafeteria style food (remember elementary school food?). There are also a retreat center hall with a fairly large common room and a second room filled with Camsco records and the silent auction and registration, etc You'll hear lots about the music, so my favorites were Sylvia Herold a beautiful singer and guitarist, her the swing workshop, Joe Newberry and his banjo workshop. More later of course. You were missed. best chance |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: Leadfingers Date: 05 Nov 06 - 07:13 PM Thanksd Chance - That is what we who couldnt make it DONT need !!! Seriously , glad it went well !! Maybe next year ? |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: Ebbie Date: 05 Nov 06 - 07:46 PM Hey! Nice to get word- as I sit here it amazes me how L O N G the Getaway weekend is, when it goes by so fast when one is home. Has to do with savoring every moment, I guess. Glad it was fun- as though I doubted it! |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: Wincing Devil Date: 05 Nov 06 - 08:18 PM I'm working on putting the pix up now. I slept well, in spite of mmario snoring to wake up the dead. I roomed with him and Don Stallone. Great Fun! |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: Willie-O Date: 06 Nov 06 - 09:37 AM Good one Rapaire, but I don't think you can hang anything on ol 'Kendall--unless his plans changed last-min he's one of us non-attendees. Of course, never let pesky facts interfere with making a verse scan right...a higher truth. W-O still kinda broke but not as broke as I'd be had I gone. |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: kendall Date: 06 Nov 06 - 09:42 AM Many complaints of snoring. That;'s one of the main rasons I elected to not go this year. I just don't function well in crowded bedrooms. Maybe next year we will bring the motor home. |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: Dan Schatz Date: 06 Nov 06 - 11:34 AM Oh, now the bitter truth comes out.... Dan Schatz |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: GUEST Date: 06 Nov 06 - 01:02 PM Those looking for Getaway pictures should search for the mountain version ..... "Getway". (Although, I always spelled it 'gitway' on my postcards to ma.) Annie (I should of hid) |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: Maryrrf Date: 06 Nov 06 - 02:11 PM Well, I'm back. I drove back Monday morning and went straight in to work. I had a grand time, it was fun seeing everybody again. As usual, there wasn't much down time. It's going to be a draggy rest of the day here at work! Lots of great moments to remember, a few better off forgotten and I hope no videos have been posted! |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: MMario Date: 07 Nov 06 - 09:13 AM Sorry WD! I have reliable information that I used to snore *MUCH* worse, before the tonsils were removed - I think the upper bunk was acting as a resonator. |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: Joe Offer Date: 08 Nov 06 - 02:17 AM By the way, Maryrrf did a stunning version of "Malagueña Salerosa." Beat hell out of the Limeliters. Great singing, Mary! -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: jacqui.c Date: 08 Nov 06 - 09:17 AM I agree with that Joe - Maryrrf has a beautiful voice. |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: Micca Date: 08 Nov 06 - 09:20 AM yeah, that was a highlight for me too! |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: Big Mick Date: 08 Nov 06 - 09:52 AM Yes, she does. I told her I definitely want to find a duet we can do together. Great interpretive style, matched by a great voice. Mick |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: Maryrrf Date: 08 Nov 06 - 10:01 AM Awww guys...I'm blushing! There were so many wonderful singers. I'm always amazed that I hear so many great songs I hadn't heard before at the Getaway. I've been involved in folk music for so many years - and there are still so many songs to be discovered and enjoyed. Not to mention the sense of cameraderie that is engendered by so many like minded people being together. I'm with you on the duet, Mick. We've got a whole year to think of something good! By the way, I was one of the people in Peace cabin that didn't object to the all night music. It was pretty loud but I went to sleep to the sounds of "It Takes a Worried Man". All part of the Getaway experience! |
Subject: RE: Getawayers ............ From: GUEST,Dani Date: 08 Nov 06 - 07:51 PM Some of the nicest memories I have in my life are of tucking in under the covers (piles and piles of them), utterly exhausted, ashamed of myself for quitting while the Mudcat cabin was still full of lusty singers... er, singers singing lustily, and drifting off to sleep to one lovely song or another. Lullabyes for a sleepy grownup. Glad you have some of those memories now, too. Dani |
