Recently there was a thread in which some people praised Alma Cogan and others had never heard of her. Either group might be interested in the programme on UK BBC4 tonight at 9 o'clock, repeated at 12.20 and 3.20.

It's a sobering thought that we have lots of footage of Alma Cogan, but nothing of Nic Jones!

Well Alma Cogan was an incredibly popular maianstream performer, it's not so surprising really.

she made her own frocks, and old people have heard of her songs - unlike Nic Jones. No disreapect to Nic - but try doing a sing song first with the Banks of Claudie, and then with Sugar in the Morning... see which one goes down best. Which one has embedded itself in the nation's psyche, one must ask oneself.....

Aah've aalways loved the sound of her voice - even when aah wez a bairn - Great songs like 'Sugar In The Moning(of course), 'Twenty Tiny Fingers' and 'The Railroad Runs Trough The Middle Of The House'

Aah suppose she wez my forst REAL love - Aah think aah wez aboot ten or twelve

Apparently Alma used to host some of the best (and most regular) show biz parties at her home in the '60's

The Beatles used to visit on a regular basis and it was during one visit that Paul was sitting at her piano and started working on a song which became 'Yesterday' - one of (if not THE) most recorded song ever!

There's a book caalled 'Magical Mystery Tours' by Tony Bramwell which documents these events - A crackin' read if ye've a mind.

Watched the programme last night & enjoyed it.   A respected & well-liked lady. Sad that she died so young. One of the first real "pop-stars" I suppose.

Remember that thing that Roaring Jelly used to do 'Alma Cogan was one of our great heroes - you might wonder why we don't say heroines, but we thought it was this Scottish bloke Al McCogan!'

A wee bit of useless infomation. Alma had an Austin Metropolitan at one time.A strange looking bath tub shaped thing in the '50's.A little while back, they were re-developing the Honda U.K. building in Chiswick,West London and found this wreck of a car on the roof!Turned out to be Alma's old Met.Sadly too far gone to be saved.
