It would be if my pond weren't totally coated in duckweed. Can't wait till we have a good hard frost - it''ll freeze and I can just pick the ice sheets off the pond, taking the duckweed with it!

Spent a wonderful afternoon a couple of years ago, watching the baby tits learning to fly from the bottom branch of the pittisporum to the edge of the pond... they seemed to be catching the mosquitoes hovering there too...

Ah.. that could explain a lot. I've not heard my tits sing.. it must be because I'm expecting the languid trilling they did when I lived in Dorset. Obviously with city life, my tits have speeded up to make themselves noticed.

I do have a pussy willow, but it's very small.... it's in the pond. The tits don't flitter in it because it's too close to the house.

They do like the pittisporum, but the clematis isn't big enough for them to sit in and it suffered badly from the drought.

They've been bouncing around again today, it's bright and sunny out, so they're making the most of it. The robin has been clearing up all the bits that they drop from the nut bag and the blackbird is turning over old leaves. I love this sort of day!

In honor of this thread, Liz, today I visited the local establishment with everything BIRDS. Houses, perches, books, and of course, seed. I picked up some premium bird seed for the various small birds, a mix that comes without a couple of the fillers that usually occupy a lot of space in commercial bags of seed but that don't do birds any good. And I picked up a mesh sack and a bag of thistle seed. Oddest stuff to spoon into the bag. The static electricity around the plastic and with the dry air gave it a life of its own.

I'll watch eagerly to see how long it takes some of the finches and cardinals to discover the need seed and that extra seed hanger!
