Tim, I've got a very nice Lowden I'd be prepared to part with for a suitable sum of money!

That is very nice for you SJ but I am just a poor impoverished working lad and cant afford millionaire guitars lol
They are rather nice though arent they?

I work too Tim, far too many hours and no extra pay for overtime! :-)
I just equate the cost against the annual cost of smoking say 20 fags a day. £4 x 365 = £1,460. A top-class instrument for around the same as it would cost to poison myself and everyone around me for a year. Now that's what I call a bargain, and the guitar ain't gonna kill me! :-)

Unless you upsdet the missus and she hits you over the head with it :-)

Very souind point about the smoking Strollin'

If I was working I would snap it up straight away. Ah well maybe one day :-)

Would you like to advertise it on MRFC website Strollin'? For nowt of course - would do one pager for you, with piccies.

HHmmmm I think if I saved hard all year and stopped smoking and then boought SJ's guitar Mrs Twangler would still damage me.
But I would love too have one of those they are lovely.

As a maatter of interest John what guitar do you lust after at the moment?
I mean if the Lowden is looking for a new home what has replaced it in your affections?
cheers.

My Martin J-40, Tim. Not a better guitar than the Lowden IMO, I'd rate them as similar in quality, but very 'different'. The Martin's proportions (body depth, neck shape and thickness, fingerboard width etc.) feel 'right' to me, and it's a very balanced sound. Not as loud as the Lowden, no prettier despite being more decorated, but just feels very good indeed.

If I won the Lottery, however, I would be looking to acquire either:

(a) the Olsen I played last week. Flamed Koa back & sides, Adirondack or Engelmann top, mahogany neck, ebony FB and bridge. A stunner in every way, and a snip at £16k! If they're good enough for James Taylor, they're good enough for me! Or........

(b) either the Traugott or the Sobell I also played last week. Both used to belong to Martin Simpson, and they were S-U-P-E-R-B. Also seriously expensive - I forget the actual values, but certainly in or approaching five figures!

And as I'll never win the lottery, I'll stick with the Martin. :-)

As the man said, "To sleep, perchance to dream............."

Morning all

Dave Longden will do tea & coffee and hot chocolate in the interval but no sandwiches. So bring you mince pies or whatever takes your fancy.

Anybody know what guitar(s)Bob Fox plays?

Thanks SJ
I like the expensive guitars as well but I dont think I play well enough to deserve one.
Wish had started learning when I was a youngster but am having a lot of fun and meeting loadsa nice people through it now.
If I could play like you or Mike or Ian I would feel I could do that sort of instrument justice.

Not my kinda guitars, Fyldes. Lovely to look at but the sound doesn't cut it for me. A big plus for them is that they're made in the UK.

Taste in guitars is like cars but more so - one man's meat is very much another man's poison. We all see them with different eyes and hear them with different ears. No such thing as the 'Best' guitar, it's all very subjective.

But Bob sure as hell can play good!

And Bob Fox wasn't bad either, was he?
