Dear Everyone,

Here are details and a booking form for a day of ballads led by Brian Peters at the Lewes Arms, Sussex, UK on Sunday 3rd. December. You are asked to chose a ballad in advance to sing and talk about if possible. Ballads chosen so far are:

        The ancient ballads of Britain include many of the most powerful story-songs in the folk repertoire, exploring themes of heroism, savagery, magic & the supernatural. In this forum Brian Peters, leading researcher & performer of some of the greatest of the Child Ballads, will lead the group in discussing where to find the ballads, how to collate & arrange them, & how to set about singing them to best effect.
        You are invited to bring along
at least one traditional ballad of your choice to sing & talk about.*

Pamela - I note the quotation from Cornell U newsletter. Did Brian do a workshop in Ithaca? Did you go?

I like the idea. Does Brian do many of these workshops? Is anyone else holding similar workshops? I won't be travelling from Ireland for this one, but if it was easier to get to, I would've liked to attend.

I'm sure Brian would do these workshops anywhere that will book him to do it.

We've got two more ballad days at the Lewes Arms next year: with Judy Cook on Saturday 17th. March and with Craig Morgan Robson on Sunday 11th. November (they are doing a day of vocal harmony on Saturday 10th. November and an evening performance at the Lewes Arms Folk Club the same day).
