Hello Catters

We have just put the 2007 Line Up on our web site, and hope you will approve. All of your favourites (the Wilsons etc) will be added shortly along with some great traditional acts.

All the news about the agricultural showground (our new festival home in Shrewsbury) can be found on the web site under LATEST NEWS and our new festival blog will keep you up to date on a week by week basis.

We have one new pub so far(the Bird in Hand), which has regular sessions and understands our needs perfectly, there's even a notice on the wall explaining session etiquitte ...very impressive. And it's a five minute walk to the festival site ...down the PIG TROUGH.

So, in 2007 you will be all on one site ...and a site designed for events, flushing loos and all.

We have every intention of bringing that old Bridgnorth spirit back to the festival. I know you'll give me hell if we don't.

Don't know about "Guest" but next year I would like to see in no particular order Boo Hewerdine, Colvin Quarmby, The SpikeDrivers, Derek Brimstone, Steve Tilston, Mike West and Katie Euliss (Truckstop Honeymoon), Martin Simpson, Bruce Mathiske, Rory Mcleod, Pete Morton, Eddie Morton, Martyn Wyndham Reed. I don't mind where I go to see them within reason.


The decision of which Festivals and gigs to go to will be based on how many of the above I can get to see/hear and also to discover new names and to see people I have not heard before, I would not dream of telling anyone who to book at their own festival, I vote with my feet:-)
I like Les Barker and Show of hands but have seen them too many times in the last two years, and I am going to see them again in December.

I don't think I could ever tire of seeing my favourites Colvin Quarmby, so I can't moan about other artists being everywhere!

How about Nancy Kerr & James Fagan - heard them on Late Junction Radio 3 (ooerrrrrrrrrr)

What's Wrong with Show Off Hands - if they can do what Phil Beer does - show 'em off I say. Hmmmmmmmm two fiddle/guitar duos, maybe not so good an idea. Anyway I will be dancing and sessioning - and stewarding and sleeping occasionally.

Having said that - Can I vote for Mr Gubbins Bicycle on the Sat or Sun - we are going to Bideford to dance to them - it's what you do with a "notso minor" deity.

AND NO RAIN NEXT YEAR, OK?

I hope I can catch at least a litte bit, I've not seen Kate Rusby since I was a teenager and I've only seen SOH's once, come to think of it, that was at the last Bridgenorth FF!

Well I've just phoned a couple of local B&Bs and they both say they don't start taking bookings until Easter.

I had the feeling last year that the festival organisers had not really got the word out to the town that the festival was happening. Pubs running out of food, coffee shops closing on the Sunday and Monday, that sort of thing.

Perhaps a bit more information for the natives Alan?

There are some B&Bs really close to the festival site around Coton Crescent, not sure if they're aware of the festival but they soon will be with people ringing up looking for accomodation - might be worth trying to get into them early (and persevering!) to try and get a cheap price.

It looks like an excellent line-up. Not sure who I'd like to add, perhaps Van Eyken or Eliza?

Fran   I am with you on the Boo Hewredine saw him last week for the first time the man is brilliant.Also saw 422 this weekend book them as the dance tent highlight, brilliant high energy playing and all under 30.Please please book these two organiser and I promise not to mention we paid £200 for the family to go and didn't get in the main tent any evening to see anything.13 year olds in tears unable to get into see there beloved Seth Lakeman....shame on you.

Warpy - I agree Boo Hewerdine and 422 are excellent!   I'm sorry you felt that you couldn't get into the MAIN marquee ANY EVENING. On the Friday and Sunday nights you could come and go as you pleased - there was always room! The only time it was full was when Seth Lakeman was performing. Hopefully that situation won't happen again as we are introducing bigger marquees and we will also lift the sides off again. There will also be a pass out system if it gets full so you can get back inside if you have popped out to the bar etc.

I think that was some years ago Mr Red. They are 5 voices singing a range of stuff - their blurb says (copied from a flyer I picked up at a gig):

"Rapsquillion has a hard-won reputation for building gradually to a climax throughout a performance; the band's invigorating music, an eclectic mix of traditional songs, non-conformist hymns, parody and contemporary, is at its impressive best towards the 'witching' hour, when, bellies bloated and all cares and sheets to the wind they tear off their inhibitions and display their crinkled credentials to the world."

They seem to be based in South Shropshire although I think one of their number, Linda, is well known on the scene in the Telford area. And didn't Chris Vowles used to do something on Genevieve Tudor's Sunday Folk show?

Thanks for the link Steve. The bit about camping obviously refers to the Festival.

Whatever is on in a venue, there are always people who will complain. THere has to be a balance between people enjoying themselves at the Festival and respect for the local residents.

What matters is the councillors! If their policy regarding the showground is similar to that previously adopted regarding the Quarry there should be no problem - their priority is apparently maximum usage with an eye on money coming into the town. A 'ringfenced' festival offers less to the town than an 'in-town' event but I'm not sure they would know the difference!

There is apparently a history of a few people being disturbed by noise at Quarry events - and a long time before the festival used the venue for the first time last year.
