Subject: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: GUEST,Alan Surtees Date: 20 Nov 06 - 11:43 AM Hello Catters We have just put the 2007 Line Up on our web site, and hope you will approve. All of your favourites (the Wilsons etc) will be added shortly along with some great traditional acts. www.shrewsburyfolkfestival.co.uk All the news about the agricultural showground (our new festival home in Shrewsbury) can be found on the web site under LATEST NEWS and our new festival blog will keep you up to date on a week by week basis. We have one new pub so far(the Bird in Hand), which has regular sessions and understands our needs perfectly, there's even a notice on the wall explaining session etiquitte ...very impressive. And it's a five minute walk to the festival site ...down the PIG TROUGH. So, in 2007 you will be all on one site ...and a site designed for events, flushing loos and all. We have every intention of bringing that old Bridgnorth spirit back to the festival. I know you'll give me hell if we don't. All the very Best Alan |

Or are Woden Network Systems running the site on the end of a piece of wet string... oh, some of it's loaded now, after about 5 minutes, still not all the pictures. Anahata the impatient |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: Steve in Sidmouth Date: 20 Nov 06 - 04:20 PM Kate Rusby? Worth every penny of the season ticket... |

Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: GUEST,Alan Surtees Date: 22 Nov 06 - 02:39 AM Hi GUEST When you say "disappointed" is that just SOH, or the lot? Who would you like? Hi SAL HAVE NO FEAR! There's definately more to come. Alan |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: Fran Date: 22 Nov 06 - 05:40 AM Don't know about "Guest" but next year I would like to see in no particular order Boo Hewerdine, Colvin Quarmby, The SpikeDrivers, Derek Brimstone, Steve Tilston, Mike West and Katie Euliss (Truckstop Honeymoon), Martin Simpson, Bruce Mathiske, Rory Mcleod, Pete Morton, Eddie Morton, Martyn Wyndham Reed. I don't mind where I go to see them within reason. The decision of which Festivals and gigs to go to will be based on how many of the above I can get to see/hear and also to discover new names and to see people I have not heard before, I would not dream of telling anyone who to book at their own festival, I vote with my feet:-) I like Les Barker and Show of hands but have seen them too many times in the last two years, and I am going to see them again in December. I don't think I could ever tire of seeing my favourites Colvin Quarmby, so I can't moan about other artists being everywhere! |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: Mr Red Date: 22 Nov 06 - 05:22 PM How about Nancy Kerr & James Fagan - heard them on Late Junction Radio 3 (ooerrrrrrrrrr) What's Wrong with Show Off Hands - if they can do what Phil Beer does - show 'em off I say. Hmmmmmmmm two fiddle/guitar duos, maybe not so good an idea. Anyway I will be dancing and sessioning - and stewarding and sleeping occasionally. Having said that - Can I vote for Mr Gubbins Bicycle on the Sat or Sun - we are going to Bideford to dance to them - it's what you do with a "notso minor" deity. AND NO RAIN NEXT YEAR, OK? |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: muppitz Date: 23 Nov 06 - 07:53 AM If Moor & Coast are back up on the main site it's not important to me who is on guest wise as I'll probably be Glen's eternal slave for the weekend! ;-) I hope I can catch at least a litte bit, I've not seen Kate Rusby since I was a teenager and I've only seen SOH's once, come to think of it, that was at the last Bridgenorth FF! muppitz x |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: Hamish Date: 23 Nov 06 - 02:48 PM That's www.shrewsburyfolkfestival.co.uk for those too lazy to copy and paste... Enjoy! -- Hamish www.MySpace.com/hamishcurrie |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: Fliss Date: 24 Nov 06 - 06:08 PM Not seen Kate Rusby so will look forward to hearing her... probably from outside the tent stewarding :) Her singing featured tonight on the new comedy 'Jam and Jerusalem'. cheers |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: danensis Date: 25 Nov 06 - 11:23 AM Well I've just phoned a couple of local B&Bs and they both say they don't start taking bookings until Easter. I had the feeling last year that the festival organisers had not really got the word out to the town that the festival was happening. Pubs running out of food, coffee shops closing on the Sunday and Monday, that sort of thing. Perhaps a bit more information for the natives Alan? John |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: GUEST,salop sue Date: 26 Nov 06 - 09:00 AM There are some B&Bs really close to the festival site around Coton Crescent, not sure if they're aware of the festival but they soon will be with people ringing up looking for accomodation - might be worth trying to get into them early (and persevering!) to try and get a cheap price. It looks like an excellent line-up. Not sure who I'd like to add, perhaps Van Eyken or Eliza? |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: GUEST,Poppy Date: 04 Dec 06 - 06:33 PM Reunited with Moor and Coast again, woo hoo! Please ask Glen to do fish and chips this year, I know he liked the easy life last year but what about his public! Music - definitely Colvin Quarmby, Dansaul, Dansmall or even just Dan Plews,Spikedrivers, something scottish,Chumbawamba and Los de Abajos. |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: Mr Red Date: 04 Dec 06 - 06:42 PM There is only so much you can do to publicise in a town full of disbelievers and incredulites. It takes one year to sink in and probably another to trust their judgement. And maybe another to dispell the image of hippydom - gawd help us. The pubs know what hit them. Still I do my bit to fly the normallity flag d8^) |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: the lemonade lady Date: 05 Dec 06 - 06:32 AM And Shot Dogs.... or maybe afterall we really aren't good enough! Sal |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: Trevor Date: 05 Dec 06 - 12:03 PM I'd vote for Rapsquillion - I've heard they're great, and local! |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: Steve in Sidmouth Date: 09 Dec 06 - 03:26 PM Mr Red 22 Nov 2006: AND NO RAIN NEXT YEAR, OK? That's OK, they've had it all this year...... http://www.shropshirestar.co.uk/2006/12/latest-flood-photos/2/ This never happens in summer by the way. Not so far in recorded history anyhow?? |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: Chris Green Date: 10 Dec 06 - 08:40 AM I'd second Rapsquillion! They're brilliant! |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: GUEST,warpy Date: 10 Dec 06 - 07:30 PM Fran I am with you on the Boo Hewredine saw him last week for the first time the man is brilliant. Also saw 422 this weekend book them as the dance tent highlight, brilliant high energy playing and all under 30.Please please book these two organiser and I promise not to mention we paid £200 for the family to go and didn't get in the main tent any evening to see anything.13 year olds in tears unable to get into see there beloved Seth Lakeman....shame on you. |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: GUEST,Sandra Date: 12 Dec 06 - 06:40 AM Warpy - I agree Boo Hewerdine and 422 are excellent! I'm sorry you felt that you couldn't get into the MAIN marquee ANY EVENING. On the Friday and Sunday nights you could come and go as you pleased - there was always room! The only time it was full was when Seth Lakeman was performing. Hopefully that situation won't happen again as we are introducing bigger marquees and we will also lift the sides off again. There will also be a pass out system if it gets full so you can get back inside if you have popped out to the bar etc. |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: GUEST,Salty Dog Date: 12 Dec 06 - 11:35 AM Yes, yes, yes to Rapsquillion - very classy. And I'll DEFINITELY DEFINITELY come if Isambard are there - they are just superb. Have you booked either of them Alan or Sandra? |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: GUEST,Sandra Date: 12 Dec 06 - 12:12 PM I must confess I haven't heard of Rapsquillion. What are they like? Isambard are superb but we did have them a couple of years ago. |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: Mr Red Date: 12 Dec 06 - 03:58 PM Rapsquillion I think they are something to do with a certain purveyor of squashed citrons now or in the past. But don't quote me. |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: GUEST,Salty Dog Date: 13 Dec 06 - 05:06 AM I think that was some years ago Mr Red. They are 5 voices singing a range of stuff - their blurb says (copied from a flyer I picked up at a gig): "Rapsquillion has a hard-won reputation for building gradually to a climax throughout a performance; the band's invigorating music, an eclectic mix of traditional songs, non-conformist hymns, parody and contemporary, is at its impressive best towards the 'witching' hour, when, bellies bloated and all cares and sheets to the wind they tear off their inhibitions and display their crinkled credentials to the world." They seem to be based in South Shropshire although I think one of their number, Linda, is well known on the scene in the Telford area. And didn't Chris Vowles used to do something on Genevieve Tudor's Sunday Folk show? |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: GUEST,KURT Date: 13 Dec 06 - 07:03 AM IS THIS THREAD ALL IN CODE? Squashed Citrons? (was that a car accident?) Rapsquillion? (isn't that a thousand gigabytes?) Who did what with Genevieve? Shot Dogs? You're winding me up. Incredulites? (were they one of the twelve tribes of Israel) too many questions, not enough answers ...you need the Scientist from Sidmouth? (five crossed anoraks). And so it goes.... |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: GUEST,Shorty Date: 13 Dec 06 - 10:09 AM Squashed Citrons - don't be bitter Rapsquillion - a parcel of rogues Genevieve - has she ever done the London to Brighton run? Shot Dogs - don't be bitter (!) Incredulities - don't believe everything you hear Shrewsbury Folk Festival - CAN'T WAIT |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: GUEST,Bob Scoffin Date: 13 Dec 06 - 11:34 AM Hey, why no ColvinQuarmby this year? Please...!! |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: Mo the caller Date: 13 Dec 06 - 11:48 AM I second 422. So young, so good to dance to and NO EAR PLUGS NEEDED (Sorry to shout, all the other ceilidh bands must have made me deaf!) |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: Steve in Sidmouth Date: 13 Dec 06 - 04:57 PM Young and at a sensible volume to dance to? Could this be the start of a trend? Let's hope so!! I find the Dartmoor Pixies are superb to dance to - they are popular hereabouts but I don't know if they travel. Website www.moormusic.co.uk or similar. |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: GUEST,maragret from Bicton Date: 14 Dec 06 - 11:45 AM I saw a band called rapsquillion one new years eve and they were fantastic. I would love to see them again, so any chance of them being in the line up this year? |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: GUEST,love goddess of ludlow Date: 14 Dec 06 - 11:48 AM Can't wait to see raps' again (rapsquillion)hope they are on the bill. For the innocent yet to be liberated by the raps' essence...be prepared...expect the unexpected.....mmmmmm....exciting innit!!!! |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: GUEST,margaret in bicton's friend Date: 14 Dec 06 - 11:51 AM I second Margarets plea. I was the other one singing up the back on that memorable evening. That little one with the beard had a real twinkle in his eye (sorry Linda!) |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: GUEST,salty bitch Date: 14 Dec 06 - 11:51 AM ooooh that salty dog does it for me every time. please please PLEASE get them on the bill this time!! share the fun and good music with everyone else. |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: John MacKenzie Date: 14 Dec 06 - 12:12 PM Yes very good, but a bit transparent Margaret/Love Goddess/Margarets Friend/Salty bitch. Not a very well hidden agenda ! Giok |
Subject: RE: SHREWSBURY 2007 From: Chris Green Date: 14 Dec 06 - 12:24 PM I agree Giok, but they're still worth seeing! :-) |
Subject: RE: Shrewsbury 2007 From: GUEST,One of Rapsquillion Date: 15 Dec 06 - 04:08 AM Sorry folks - nothing to do with us and now we're embarrassed. |
Subject: RE: Shrewsbury 2007 From: GUEST,saucy jane Date: 15 Dec 06 - 05:09 AM What's all this about? Not sure i understand, but had Rapsquillion at my party a while back and highly recommend their eclectic folk approach and great entertainment. Would love to see them on the bill at Shrewsbury this year. |
Subject: RE: Shrewsbury 2007 From: GUEST,Sandra Date: 15 Dec 06 - 05:46 PM Maybe Rapsquillion would like to contact me - I don't know who they are and have no contact for them! |
Subject: RE: Shrewsbury 2007 From: Fliss Date: 24 Dec 06 - 04:30 PM HI Just been reading in the Shropshire Star that there is some challenge to the West Mid Showground license from local residents. Hope it doesnt mess up the festival being held there. fliss |
Subject: RE: Shrewsbury 2007 From: Steve in Sidmouth Date: 26 Dec 06 - 06:02 PM Better keep the noise levels down then.....this link might work http://www.shropshirestar.co.uk/2006/12/showground-licence-threat/ |
Subject: RE: Shrewsbury 2007 From: Fliss Date: 29 Dec 06 - 05:34 AM Yes we will all whisper:) Thanks for the link Steve. The bit about camping obviously refers to the Festival. Whatever is on in a venue, there are always people who will complain. THere has to be a balance between people enjoying themselves at the Festival and respect for the local residents. fliss |
Subject: RE: Shrewsbury 2007 From: Steve in Sidmouth Date: 30 Dec 06 - 06:06 PM What matters is the councillors! If their policy regarding the showground is similar to that previously adopted regarding the Quarry there should be no problem - their priority is apparently maximum usage with an eye on money coming into the town. A 'ringfenced' festival offers less to the town than an 'in-town' event but I'm not sure they would know the difference! There is apparently a history of a few people being disturbed by noise at Quarry events - and a long time before the festival used the venue for the first time last year. http://www.seered.co.uk/folk95b.htm |
Subject: RE: Shrewsbury 2007 From: Steve in Sidmouth Date: 04 Jan 07 - 03:07 PM Looks OK now! See link below http://www.shropshirestar.co.uk/2007/01/society-wins-battle-over-noise/ |
