I really like the Avast anti-virus software and am using it based on Mudcatters' recommendations, but I cannot figure out a couple of things with it. Any help would be appreciated.

I have read it sometimes has a "false positive" for a virus. I plan to use another program to verify its finding, but in the meantime it tells me to "move it to the chest." I cannot find what to do with it then, nor can I find the chest!

Also, is there a way, which I am surely missing, for me to tell the program NOT to show me all of the stuff it is scanning while I am online? It obscures the screen etc., but I have obviously not ticked the right box to get it to stop.

Thanks!

kat

"the chest" probably refers to what some AVs would just call 'quarantine'...it is a way of locking it so that it can't do whatever it is programmed to do...but I have never used Avast, so can't speak to details. It does have a decent reputation, so let it do whatever it wants, I guess. (I think almost all AVs can have an occasional false positive.)

I have done, thanks, Bill. Though it still comes up with the virus after having done that, so I guess that isn't a total quarantine or it it is getting triggered some other way. I've still got to do another scan by another program to make sure it isn't one of the false positives it seems to have a problem with.

Kat, there's a link (upper left of that little panel thingie) where you can see what's in the chest. It's safe in there, and you can track what you get.
