Subject: RE: Rosalie Sorrels, a treasure From: GUEST,KT Date: 23 Nov 06 - 05:37 PM Yes, of all the songs I taught my students, "I'm Gonna Tell" was one of their all time favorites! Rosalie once told me the song was inspired while she was trying to paint a room in her house. She was up on the ladder and the kids were going at it....thus the birth of "I'm Gonna Tell." KT |
Subject: RE: Rosalie Sorrels, a treasure From: GUEST,Jim Date: 23 Nov 06 - 10:31 AM I taught elementary school music till about 6 years ago and one of the kids' favourite songs was I'm Gonna Tell, which I was told Rosalie wrote to show her kids what they sounded like. I'M GONNA TELL (Rosalie Sorrels) I'm gonna tell, I'm gonna tell I'm gonna holler and I'm gonna yell I'll get you in trouble for everything you do I'm gonna tell on you I'm gonna tell how you broke the plate And I'll tell about all the bananas you ate I'll tell on you one time, I'll tell on you two I'm gonna tell on you I'm gonna tell 'bout where you hid your gum And I'm gonna tell that you still suck your thumb I'm even gonna tell her about the cat and the glue I'm gonna tell on you I'm gonna tell 'bout where you hid the broom So you would not have to clean up your room And when she finds out, she'll sweep it with you I'm gonna tell on you I'm gonna tell how you punched me and bit me And I'm gonna tell how you socked me and hit me But I'm not gonna tell Momma what I did to you I'm gonna tell on you I'm gonna holler and I'm gonna bawl And she's gonna smash you all over the wall And when he comes home, I'll tell Daddy too I'm gonna tell on you @kids filename[ IMGONTEL DC |

Subject: Rosalie Sorrels, a treasure From: open mike Date: 22 Nov 06 - 10:01 PM I was recently on a train across Canada with Rosalie and 70 other folks and she sang a song which is known as her theme song...Travellin' Lady. She spoke kindly of Jean Ritchie who encouraged her to find her voice, and the change from the "Tweetie Bird" voice she used to sing with. Rosalie has gone on to sing from coast to coast and although the travellin' song is thought as her theme, she really likes to have a place to come home to. She has chronicalled the lives of some of the early settlers in Idaho in her book "Way Out in Idaho" which sadly is out of print. There will be a television special featuring her and several other singing women from Idaho on the television soon. check out her web site...she is a glorius 73 years old now and gets better every year!! www.wayoutinidaho.com If you remember the song by Nanci Griffith on her Lone Star State of Mind about a Ford van....the Ford Econoline was about Rosalie. |
