Subject: RE: Steeleye Span - Winter From: Dave the Gnome Date: 23 Nov 06 - 03:37 PM Saw the show at Southport, Christmas 2004, and bought the album straight off - Agree wholeheartedly. Saw then in Blackburn earlier that year as well and bought 'They called her Babylon'. In my mind they now have one of the strongest line ups they have ever had - Maddy Prior, Rick Kemp, Peter Knight, Ken Nichol and Liam Genockey. Long may they run:-) Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: Steeleye Span - Winter From: GUEST Date: 24 Nov 06 - 05:19 AM They have a new album out called Bloody Men and are touring the UK now. But they don't have a website and don't seem to push themselves, so you'd be forgiven for not knowing any of this |
Subject: RE: Steeleye Span - Winter From: GUEST,John Robinson Date: 24 Nov 06 - 06:17 AM Ah yes, the missing or out of date website syndrome. For such artists I find it best to register with www.ents24.com and set up an alert for the artist. They then mail you when new dates are added to the site. The full steeleye tour is on there so I guess someone (maybe at Park Records) keeps that site updated. I saw Steeleye in Oxford when someone I knew (in a now defunt band called The Pallidinos) was supporting them. They were brilliant (and so were the support)! |
Subject: RE: Steeleye Span - Winter From: Dave the Gnome Date: 24 Nov 06 - 06:26 AM Wikipedia is up to date then - "In November 2006, Steeleye will release their latest studio album Bloody Men, before embarking on a Winter tour that begins on November 24th in Basingstoke and runs until just before Christmas." And Ken Nicol's (right spelling - sorry about the wrong one before) home page is prety good. I've just remembered I was going to book for Preston - Hope I'm not too late! Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: Steeleye Span - Winter From: Dave the Gnome Date: 24 Nov 06 - 06:40 AM WooHoo - They haven't run out. 4 tickets booked. Getting to be a bit of a tradition now seeing Maddy at Christmas - 2004 Steeleye, 2005 Carnival Band, 2006 Steeleye. Better than going wrestling with the drunks in Manchester at Christmas any day:-) |
Subject: RE: Steeleye Span - Winter From: Les in Chorlton Date: 25 Nov 06 - 03:07 AM Now look Dave, "going wrestling with the drunks in Manchester at Christmas any day" is not only a fine traditional song but a traditional folk custom going back to the times when Gorton was a Roman out post and ex-centre of Celtic cuulture, so to speak! (And 2 u's is corrrect in this context) Cheers Les |

Subject: RE: Steeleye Span - Winter From: Georgiansilver Date: 25 Nov 06 - 06:01 AM To think I used to travel all over the place to see them perform when I lived in Lancashire.....Les..I reckon all their music has been good but certainly Winter is a great LP (oops sorry CD nowadays eh?) Love all their songs and used to really enjoy them live...must try to see them again soon. |
Subject: RE: Steeleye Span - Winter From: Rasener Date: 25 Nov 06 - 06:14 AM Wonder if they would pop into Market Rasen Folk Club, says he with tongue in cheek :-) |
