Could any kind people let me know where the Chichester Folk Club, West Sussex, now meets? Someone told me not long ago that it was moving or had moved from the Gribble Inn, but I have no further details.

Thanks in advance,

Valmai Goodyear

I link to SCoFF at cresby.com and if you click on their map for Chichester you will find two entries for that town. Spoilt for choice.

Yep: The Four Chesnuts. Chichester Folk Song Club and The Four Chesnuts, 234 Oving Road. Chichester, West Sussex.. As Geordie Porgie says it's a very friendly and thriving club: extraordianrily well attended with some very decent floor singers and monthly guests of a good club standard (i.e. you won't find any of the huge folk names - yes, I know that's an oxymoron - but they do put on very good acts.)

Something unique in my experience that I like about the club is that on guest nights everybody who wants to do a spot gets to do so.

since October 2016 the Chichester Folk Song club is at The Chichester Inn, 38 West Street, Chichester. PO19 1RP. Every MONDAY night of the year. Same format as the past 40 odd years, a weekly singaround club with monthly guests. Chichester Folk Song Club for more details.

I first went to Chichester in the 70's, when as a resident at Surbiton Assembly Rooms, we did a 'Residents swap' with them. I think it was myself, Derek Serjeant and Hazel King, possibly Hector Gilchrist, and maybe Mac. We had a wonderful night, and I was introduced to Gale's Ales, so I went there a few more times. That was in the days of Georgina and Russ, and a couple whose name I have forgotten I just remember that she was Scottish, and a jewelry designer. A lovely friendly club.
