Roy Clinging came to Chorlton Folk Club last Thursday. He played two concertinas, though not at the same time, he played the guitar and sang, mostly, English Folk songs from Cheshire.

He was magnificent. He has a great voice and a relaxed style with good humour. A bit like the Boat Band, which he is nothing like, he reminds us that folk songs and tunes sung and played well are an utter joy.

I guess lots of you out there know this, but for those who do not:
If you run a Folk Club book this man he is will bring much joy and so will the Boat Band so book them as well.

Now, Duncan McFarlane in Otley, Friday 8 December, Christmas come early or what?

I always thought he should get together in a duo with Rod Stradling.

Rod Stradling and Roy Clinging.

Sort of conjours up some scary images...

:D (tG)

I agree with you Les.
Roy has hosted the Folk Club at the Whitby Festival for a couple of years, making it a must for me.

One of Folk's most underrated gems - that's Roy. I think the problem is... he's sincere!! Many people can't cope with that...

Come and see him at the Open Door on Sunday December 3rd... we had Andy Clarke last week - another OOFMUG.

Hey! I just made a new acronym!

Or did I?

... I'll get me coat...

Exceptionally knowledgable, fine singer and great performer. Not to mention the fact that he and his wife are just plain lovely people. Wish they lived closer to us (or something).

See him whenever you get the chance!

Linn

Thanks for the link to Roy's website. He has played at our folk club 3 times now, and is always a delight. He has the common touch , does not put himself on a pedestal, is extremely knowledgeable, and a thoroughly nice man. Book him!
