Hot chocolate is now reduced to 50 pence because Dave can't be arsed with the 30 pence - some entrepreneur is he :-) But great news for the vegetarian hot chocolataires.

OK the singaround is on after the concert.

The people that have indicated to me that they will partake in the singaround are so far.

Gwenda & Terry Cater
Stitherum (Mike & Sue Dewsbury)
Paul Young
Martin Browne & Elizabeth Padgett
Titch Rivett
Mick Pearce
Andrew Tiffany

Havent managed to ask yet, but hoping they can join in the singaround
John Blanks
Diedre Speed
Mike Hill

So hopefully they are up for it and could indicate on this thread if that is OK

Cheers
Les

Maypoles to Mistletoe is a yearly sell out at Crawley and Guildford a not to be missed evening.
Iris Bishop and Martyn what a combination.
Iris is the most gifted of Duet concertina players and combined with her wonderful and creative arrangements she is worth seeing on her own.

Some that I particularly like are

Genoa
I Dreamed Of Phoebe
Where The Brumbies Come To Water

And one I like becuase I associate with Dave who is the Chairman of the Village Hall and Committee member of MRFC

Its called The Flash Stockman. Its the lyrics that make me laugh and I may bend Martyn's arm to do it in front of Dave.

It goes
I'm a shearer by me trade
And me name is uggely Dave

I wonder if Dave would get upset :-)

Difficult to chose just one but my CURRENT fav is Where Ravens Feed. A close run second just has to be Sailor Home From Sea (one of my all time favs I think).

My moment of folk-glory was at Martyn's singing Sailor Home to Martyn's guitar playing and Bill Whaley playing the accordion and Dave Fletcher playing low D whistle. A moment I will remember with pride for the rest of my life.

I have had an e-mail from Martyn and he has informed me that Iris Bishop will be coming along as well, and his wife Dan will also be there. So a good chance to meet up with them in the interval and after the concert.

Iris Bishop, concertina and accordion, and Martyn Wyndham-Read, guitar, have been playing and recording together for 15 years.
IRIS BISHOP brings a wealth of experience in many different styles of playing. Her love of the accordion came from her father, while her rich style of concertina playing, was influenced by players like Tommy Williams. Iris also accompanies Martyn Wyndham-Read in live concert and recording work and is a member of 'Elsie's Band'.

I don't think so, although I don't have any control over what a performer wants to do.

Glad to see that you are coming along. Look forward to seeing you on the 15th.

Cheers Les

How many can you fit in at MRFC Les? and, does 'there is a bar' mean we can't bring our own choice of tipple (as is usual) .I don't mean to be dense but haven't experienced the MRFC bar and would like to know how varied the stock is!
Sorry - my eccentricity is taking over tonight.
I don't believe I've heard MWR (Gasp!)so I am really looking forward to the 15th.
H.

Quote from Rhiannon >>An all-time hero of mine since I first heard him sing <<

The same here when I first saw about 1970 at the Woodman Folk Club Kingswinford. That was a great little folk club in those days. Thats where I first saw Cyril Tawney.

I had the pleasure of hearing him, meeting him, and discussing Australian music with him at a bookstore venue in downtown Blythville, Arkansas! He's the one who put me on to John Williamson. A week later I had the same experience with James Keelaghan at the same venue (minus the discussion of Australian music). I remember that period of time with great pleasure and awe. I sure wish he would come to the USA again and visit the middle of the country---same with James.

What a voice! And a nice guy as well.
