years ago, i joined the rock band that copied 70's thin lizzy, and i learned irish music there for my first time. are they still loved in the world especialy for folk fan? i love to hear they play the song: shanandore, whiskey in the jar, or some traditional songs. thanks. -takeo

takeo...unfortunately Thin Lizzy No longer exist. Phil Lynot died a few years ago and that was the nd of them...it was refreshing to see them do the metal thang with irish trad songs and there are many people I know who think that the songs were actually rock songs...go figure..also the guy who managed thin LIzzy was also the guy who managed The POgues..another superlative band.

I always loved "Roisin Dubh'" , a Thin Lizzie song about Cuchulain and the Irish Gods and Heroes. Never got to hear the more traditional Irish tunes . What albums do they appear on?

Kombowa, takeo, I think one of your songs in the first post is "Shenandoah". Nasty language, English, where very little is spelled the way it sounds.
I was curious about Thin Lizzy; Tin Lizzy is what people affectionately called the Model T Ford (or was it the Model A?), but why 'Thin'?
Blessings,
Barbara

Baraba, I suspect the band's name was a play on the expression "Tin Lizzy" and the way Irish people sometimes don't pronounce the "h" in "Th" (as in Thurles and Athy placenames) - the Norman influence?

in japan, there is a discussion what vocalist phil lynott should pronounce as [linot] or [lainot]. i suppose latter is us pronounciation. someone please tell me which is better pronounciation for the name of original irish person. lonesomeEJ, shenandoah is also appeared on "black rose" album and in the song of black rose as medley, whiskey is the jar is on "bagabond of western world", my favorite early album. i don't know what is traditional and what not in their songs, but many are sounding like irish mood. konbanwa and thanks barbara for spell correction, it's our surprise thin lizzy means ford model T or some other car. this important information will soon be prevailled around japanese thin lizzy fan. thank you. -takeo

hi,

it was pronounced linnet. My personal favourtie isn't a traditional one.. but their slow version of "Don't believe a word." But I do like whisky in the jar.

Thanks (konbanwa?) Takeo...I will hunt down a copy of Vagabonds of the Western World, can't wait to hear how the boys did Whiskey in the Jar. Truth be told, my alltime favorite Thin Lizzy song:

" I am just a Cowboy, lonesome on the Trail..

the Starry night... the campfire light...

the Coyote calls...and the Howlin Winds wail..

So I'll ride out to the Old Sundown

Roll me over and turn me around, let me keep spinnin

Til I hit the Ground

Roll me over and let me go, Runnin free with the Buffalo"

It's called Cowboy Song. Obviously, Phil Lynott knew about as much as about the old west as I do about Watusi mating rituals, but man what a rocking groove!

Hi,

and now some trivia...... Phil Lynott was married to Leslie Crowther's daughter.

(The people in the UK will know Leslie Crowther as a TV presenter.... Crackerjack...... (showing my age now with that one)... and Stars in their eyes.)

I heard this question b fore and I believe, it's a no real true answer one. There had to have been a thin person called Lizzy. (pet name for Elizbeth in Ireland)

Ohiyo Gozamasu , takeo! You have said that you played in a rock band. Was wondering what instrument you played, and what was the Bands name? My wife says to ask you if you have children, and do they like the "Hello Kitty" tv show....Arigato! Lonesome EJ

ohayo(g'morning) ej, i have no kids and i do like hello kitty since i was kids, for 20 yrs. she has national popularity in japan. there's no tv show of hello kitty couse she is basically only a printed character, for example on stationarys like pencil, notebook, etc. my band name then was "ken-chan band" because band leader is called as ken-chan, and i played precision bass like phil, but i didn't song :) now i'm joining to black-american trad band named "boogie woogie ace & the rhythm kings". thanks and bye, -takeo

Hi alastair,

yeah.. he was my favourite too, along with Peter Glaze and Don McLean, (possibly spelt wrong.. and likely to cause confusion.. last seen doing "Songs of praise"!!)

you didn't happen to listen to Stewpot on 'Junior choice" Saturday mornings on the radio too????????

Oooo Alison a walk down memeory lane. I got my first cassette player around that time and I would *shock...horror* tape my favourite songs from his show until i had filled a C30 tape. I also used to live the whole year for the Record Breakers Christmas show, which had Roy Castle, the team from Blue Peter and the Playaway team as well and any other celeb they could rope into doing it. They don't make childrens programming like they used to. I also used to do a fair impression of Dave Lee Travis when he was on the breakfast show:

( In a high female voice)

EEEEE! It's THE HAIRY MONSTER!!!!!

(scrunching sound...deep male voice)

COMIN'AT YER THROUGH THE CORNFLAKES

man my head is just stuffed full of this crap :o)

Actually Thin Lizzy were reformed a few years ago in a Phil Lynott tribute concert with original Lizzy drummer Brian Downie, Lizzie guitarist of many years Scott Gorham, Keyboardist Darren Wharton another Lizzy veteran since the China Town album if memory serves, John Sykes on vocals who joined Lizzy for the Thunder and Lightning album which was the last Thin Lizzy release (apart from Live Life) before they finally split. The current bass players name escapes me at the moment but they will never be the same without Phillip, Lord have mercy on his soul.
