Subject: BS: Chocolate Cake From: Sooz Date: 09 Dec 06 - 11:53 AM I'm making this one at the moment - http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/chocolate-beer-cake,1858,RC.html Are there any more favourites? I'm trying recipes out prior to making a large celebration version next week/ (What a great excuse!) |
Subject: RE: BS: Chocolate Cake From: GUEST,Scoville Date: 09 Dec 06 - 09:50 PM Coca-Cola Chocolate Cake Mine never looks that pretty (actually, mine always looks freakin' hideous) but it tastes great and has a great texture. Southern cooking will kill you, but what a way to go! |
Subject: RE: BS: Chocolate Cake From: Bert Date: 09 Dec 06 - 11:47 PM "Rigo Jancsi" is absolutely the BEST chocolate cake. Trouble is there are dozens of different recipes on line. |
Subject: RE: BS: Chocolate Cake From: Sooz Date: 10 Dec 06 - 04:26 AM That looks good Bert will have a go for a Christmas treat. Not sure about the coca cola one though Scoville - it has some dodgy ingredients for us veggies. |
Subject: RE: BS: Chocolate Cake From: My guru always said Date: 10 Dec 06 - 05:12 AM I'm having a go at Delia's cake today, though with a few minor alterations for allergies & dislikes - the good news is the substitute of Rum & Brandy for the juice of 2 oranges. Only problem is, how many fluid ounces should that be? Wish me luck.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Chocolate Cake From: maeve Date: 10 Dec 06 - 11:02 AM I think I'll try the Delia cake today, as well. I usually use a recipe using a bit of coffee in it or one with a trace of peach schnapps. This will be a fun change. maeve |
Subject: RE: BS: Chocolate Cake From: My guru always said Date: 10 Dec 06 - 11:28 AM Well I guessed at between 4 - 6 fluid ounces per orange and to even things up a bit I'm letting the dried fruit drink the alchohol first - worth a try! Good luck with yours Sooz & Maeve! |
Subject: RE: BS: Chocolate Cake From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 10 Dec 06 - 02:17 PM Yeah, here's my favorite chocolate cake recipe: 1 lb Dark Chocolate 1 lb Milk Chocolate 1 lb White Chocolate 1 cup Self-Rising Flour 1 cup Oil 1 cup Water 1 Egg Combine flour, oil, water and egg into mixing bowl. Beat with electric mixer for one minute. Pour resulting batter onto compost pile. Eat chocolate. |
Subject: RE: BS: Chocolate Cake From: GUEST,Scoville Date: 10 Dec 06 - 03:01 PM Dude, it ain't health food. I assume you're vegan and not vegetarian--I'm sure there's a vegan somewhere who can provide you with substitutes. Maybe the lady at the Vegan Lunch Box blog. Oh, wait--the marshmallows. You can just leave those out. It's a small difference. |
Subject: RE: BS: Chocolate Cake From: My guru always said Date: 10 Dec 06 - 03:55 PM Well, it's in the oven now & I'm keeping my fingers crossed. But I realised while I was making it, this one's 'Nigella's chocolate Christmas cake', not Delia's - silly me!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Chocolate Cake From: LilyFestre Date: 10 Dec 06 - 06:21 PM I had a piece of chocolate cake last week that was THE BEST EVER! It was made by a teacher in my building....she'll be giving me the recipe tomorrow. I'll share it later this week. :) YUM. YUM. YUM. Michelle |
Subject: RE: BS: Chocolate Cake From: Mrrzy Date: 11 Dec 06 - 12:57 PM My fave is chocolate pudding cake, I am looking for my family recipe because all the ones on the Internet have hot water where we have coffee... The idea is to make a cake batter, put in pan, and before baking you carefully pour the hot liquid over it. Then when it's baked you have cake on top and pudding underneath... really good hot with barely whipped cream or vanilla or coffee ice cream! |
Subject: RE: BS: Chocolate Cake From: Michael in Swansea Date: 11 Dec 06 - 02:49 PM Sooz, if you want vegetarian marshmallows try a Kosher shop or the Kosher bit of a supermarket. Mike |
