my mother in law said it used to be played on the radio for peaoples birthdays, by a man named Carl Moore back when she was a child (she is 93 yrs old now).
we sing it at every birthday and everyone loves it!

I don't know where it came from but this song is a tradtion in my family - we all grew up singing it (I'm 42). But I learned it as:

Well, the Barnard College radio station (WBAR) lists a song in its playlist a called IT'S SOMEBODY'S BIRTHDAY TODAY. The artist is Desparate Bicycles, and the album is "Remorse Code." Somehow I doubt that's the one you're looking for.

Also, there's a children's song called SOMEBODY'S BIRTHDAY TODAY, written by Frances Dillon and Christopher Hedge, and recorded by Frances Dillon (known as "Francie") on an album called "Toy Box." CD Baby has a sound sample, but that doesn't sound like your song, either.

This is not my kind of song, but somebody in choir asked me to inquire about it. She learned it a long times ago, in the 1940's or 1950's. Anybody know more about, know where it might be in a songbook, or where I can find a tune to transcribe?
