For those who have never heard The Rankin Family. (The song is by them. The video tribute to Canucks serving in Afghanistan may not be something you wish to watch, so please be advised.)

When they originally broke up, some were starting families, as well, and they'd been playing since they were very young. I thought at the time they deserved a break, and to pursue their individual dreams. They did, and here they are back to delight us.

John Morris' daughter Molly is playing with them. She is a fine fiddler and vocalist.

Actually they had called it quits before the death of John Morris. It may have had to do with Jimmy Rankin, he seemed to want to do more pop kind of stuff, he made a couple of very good cds. The female members of the group did some work as a trio and a lot of solo stuff, all of it very good. I, for one, am very glad they are back. What a huge influence they have been in Nova Scotia.

Scrump, John Morris Rankin was tragically killed in a motoring accident some years ago (4-5) and the group decided to call it a day. I think some of them continued in solo careers since then.

I don't know what the album is called but it will be released in February. They are also doing a cross Canada tour starting in January, Hope they do some gaelic stuff, it is what I like best of their stuff.

Heard a few cuts from the new Rankin Family cd on CBC this morning. It sounds great. It is grand to finally have these people back together. They made some great music and were missed. Hooray for the reunion.
