Subject: RE: Mike Eaves Elizabeth St Folk Club Sydney From: GUEST Date: 16 Apr 19 - 07:50 PM Freda, that article you posted is no longer available. Do you still have a copy? I remember Mike very well, and Dermot Ryder, too. I sang at most of the places mentioned when I was in Sydney in 1971. Jon Bartlett |
Subject: RE: Mike Eaves Elizabeth St Folk Club Sydney From: Daniel Kelly Date: 16 Apr 19 - 12:24 AM I'm sitting in the National Library of Australia, hoping to access some of the recordings that Mike Eves made, specifically some studio recordings of Colin Dryden. Good to know that Mike's family passed them on and they remain accessible. |
Subject: RE: Mike Eaves Elizabeth St Folk Club Sydney From: freda underhill Date: 22 Jul 14 - 09:28 AM Thanks very much Peggy, and I'm very sorry to hear that Mike is no longer with us. If his family are interested in connecting, once they come to Australia, I can try and put them in touch with the right people. Thanks very much for your message, and thank you Sandra for letting me know, best wishes, freda |
Subject: RE: Mike Eaves Elizabeth St Folk Club Sydney From: GUEST Date: 23 Feb 10 - 07:40 AM Hello -- I see I am four years late, but this is the first time this has come up when I google Mike's name. Sadly, Mike died in the USA in February 2009. His recordings are with his wife and son but I undertand they are bringing them back to Australia some time this year. I'm not sure what their final disposition will be. Regards Peggy Daroesman (old friend of Mike's) |
Subject: RE: Mike Eaves Elizabeth St Folk Club Sydney From: freda underhill Date: 17 Dec 06 - 01:50 AM My neighbour has just found an old record (Freedom on the Wallaby) produced by Mike Eves (note spelling - different to thread title) with Dave de Hugard singing. Al Ward describes a number of Sydney folk clubs including PACT Folk, French's Tavern, The Arts Factory in Goulbourn Street, The Elizabeth Hotel (The Liz) and the Wayside Chapel in his article WEEKEND NIGHTS IN 1971, and mentions Mike Eves and later Dermott Ryder as club organisers. I also posted this query about Mike on the Ausworldfolk list, and have received an email from a guy at the National Film Archives who will assist with material for the doco. freda |
Subject: Mike Eaves Elizabeth St Folk Club Sydney From: freda underhill Date: 16 Dec 06 - 07:42 AM Does anyone know what happened to Mike Eaves, who used to help run the Elizabeth St Folk club in Sydney, and also one in the Old Corn Exchange Building at Pyrmont Bridge? A friend has some early film footage for a documentary being made about early blues in Australia, and is trying to get a recording of Mike Eaves from one of the early folk clubs. hopefully freda |
