Subject: RE: ADD: Protestant Men From: Gabriel Date: 14 Mar 18 - 04:01 PM There is a YouTube recording of The Wolf Tones singing this song. The sentiments of the song are fine ones. However, the words are not in the least lyrical and the tune it is set to is very poor. It is justly forgotten. What a pity. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmPbC1rYYOA |
Subject: RE: Protestant Men From: Brakn Date: 20 Mar 99 - 08:36 AM This is what I can make of it. It was written by Brian Warfield of the Wolfe Tones. Bits in italics are what I'm not sure of. Regards Mick Bracken
It was back in history's page, the story's told |
Subject: RE: Protestant Men From: Big Mick Date: 19 Mar 99 - 01:34 PM Michael, First, welcome to our community, my brother. I am a Union Organizer in my day job for the UFCW. Please stay involved here. You will find some of the most amazing people you have ever met, discussions that are brilliant, disagreement for the most part without rancor, and zany comments that will make you laugh out loud. And ultimately you will have to join a 12 step program to deal with your addiction to the 'Cat. With regard to your song request, I will try to find something in my library, which is fairly extensive, but it does not ring a bell. But let me point out (and I am an Irish Catholic, and republican in the Irish sense)that many of Irelands greatest patriot's were Protestant. Parnell, Wolfetone, and many of the United Irish leadership were such. Party's whose self interest lies in keeping Ireland divided are the ones who make a religious issue of the troubles. But this is not about religion, it is about economics among other issues. The important thing now is that the Irish people have spoken and it is our duty to support them in their quest for peace. OK, OK, Mick, off the soapbox. I will try to find the song for you, and I will bet someone comes up with it before I do. Mick |
Subject: "Protestant Men" lyrics sought From: Michael J. Lowrey Date: 17 Mar 99 - 03:15 PM I'm more a wombat than a mudcat, but perhaps someone can help me. Here on Patrick's own day, I'm looking for the lyrics to a rebel song, "Protestant Men." It honors some of the PROTESTANTS who have fought and died for Ireland's freedom, from Wolfe Tone on to the Easter Rising. Naturally, I don't know the author. It's not on the database, and I'm having no luck on the Web. Please reply directly to me, orange@execpc.com Michael J.
