Just heard the sad news on the radio. Loud, proud, and gigging for a whole lot of years.

Sad to hear, but for sure Dutchie had a good run. He'll be missed.

Damn. He was the real deal. I last saw him a few years ago. His hands were so twisted from Arhritis that there was no way he could play anymore, but he put on a great show. Rest in Peace Dutch.

Saw poor ol' Dutchie a couple of summers ago. It was sad and impressive at the same time. He was in a wheelchair and could hardly hold up his head - but he still had the big voice and still belted out the blues. RIP.

There are a thousand stories about Dutchie's life, and at least half of 'em are true. I've been listening to him play since forever, it seems, and he just got better.

Sad news indeed.

I too last saw him 3 years ago .... shocked to see him wheeled up on stage ... though in a wheel chair he could still command the band and belt out those songs, beer in one hand, a cigarette in the other.

Dutch was not only a blues musician, but he lived the life of a bluesman, true to his craft.

He will be missed.

Thought I raise this thread back to the surface ... must be some Mudcat fans of his who are unaware of his passing.

Nova Scotia closes out the year by losing two of it's musical icons. Dutchie and John Allen both fought a hard struggle, and both will be deply missed by their fans!
To quote Tom T. Hall on "Clayton Delaney":
"It could be that the good Lord likes a little picking too"

Not the original words, but, the most PC.

Sad News; We all played music together as kids back in old Nova Scotia in the 50s. I got Dutch his first gig in Halifax in the Rock-a-Rama in the Halifax Forum. God bless, Eddy M
