DOWN IN THE VALLEY

The. first time I saw her she was all dressed in white.
All in white, all in white, my God, her cunt was tight,
Down in the valley, where she followed me.

The next time I saw her she was all dressed in brown,
All in brown, all in brown, I took her nickers down,
Down in the valley where she followed me.

The next time I saw her she was all dressed in green.
All in green, all in green, I filled her soup tureen,
Down In the valley, where she followed me.

The next time I saw her she was all dressed in fawn.
All in fawn, all in fawn, two little bastards born,
Down in the valley where she followed me.

The next time I saw her she was all dressed in red.
All in red, all in red, two little bastards dead,
Down in the valley were she followed me.

The next time I saw her she was all dressed in black
All in black, all in black, boards nailed across her crack,
Down in the valley where she followed me.

Song #247 in the Fighter Pilots Song Book Undated (ca 1962). Internally attributed to the 523rd Tactical Fighter Squadron but the cover image shows the design of the 421st "Black Widows" TFS. Most likely the 421st just photocopied the everything and changed the cover image.

Down in the valley(where nobody goes) * Some colors may not be in the correct order; * Some lyrics may not be correct:{Nikki Vokes}

The first time I saw her she was in white, all in white all in white, she was a pretty sight, down in the valley where nobody goes.

The next time I saw her she was in cream, all in cream all in cream, she was a pretty dream, down in the valley where nobody goes.

The next time I saw her she was in beige, all in beige all in beige, she just turned of age, down in the valley where nobody goes.

The next time I saw her she was in pink, all in pink all in pink, she made my fingers stink, down in the valley where nobody goes.

The next time I saw her she was in brown, all in brown all in brown, I got her knickers down, down in the valley where nobody goes.

The next time I saw her she was in green, all in green all in green, she said the doctor’s been, down in the valley where nobody goes.

The next time I saw her she was in blue, all in blue all in blue, she said our baby’s due, down in the valley where nobody goes.

The next time I saw her she was in grey all in grey all in grey, she said we’re due in may, down in the valley where nobody goes.

The next time I saw her she was in red, all in red all in red, she said our baby’s dead, down in the valley where nobody goes.

The last time I saw her she was in black all in black all in black, she won’t be going back, into the valley where nobody goes.

Danny Brazil's version which is a different tune again can be heard on the triple CD from Musical Traditions website 'Down by the Old Riverside' The title is 'I met a girl all in white'. It's track 17 on the 3rd CD.
The same version is printed in Mike Yates' book 'Traveller's Joy' published by EFDSS in 2006. p75. with score.

Okay according to my indexes the tune is available in various volumes.

Ed Cray in The Erotic Muse gives an American version to the ubiquitous 'Vilikins' tune which is related to the American bawdy song 'Charlotte the Harlot'. He states though 'Originally from Great Britain' However the tune of the 'all in blue, all in blue, I said 'How do you do' bit is the same tune as I sing.

One of the earliest versions I have is in Nettleingham's 'Tommy's Tunes' from WWI. Unfortunately the way the tune is set out in harmonies (piano music) I haven't the skill to work out what the tune is. Above the score it states 'TUNE: Special' which I take to mean it has its own tune. It could be related to Vilikins but that's just a guess. It has 11 verses and a sort of epilogue that has the designated tune of 'Farmer Giles' which I do believe is the Vilikins tune.

The closest thing I can think of as far as a tune goes is the folk song 'Maids when you're young never wed an old man'. Here's a verse

When we went to church
Hey ding dorum down
When we went to church X
Me being young X
When we went to church
he left me in the lurch
Maids when you're young never wed an old man.

excluding the 2 lines marked 'X'

John Mehlberg has a website somewhere with all of these bawdy pieces being sung. I have a vague recollection of singing this to him over the phone to go on the website. Have you tried Googling it?

In fact, I don't think I'll be singing any of these. Thanks just the same.....

Chris Griffiths

My favourite version is this one dripped to me, in episodes, by two delightfully mischievous, eleven year old female classmates during our exploratory flirtations at Hill Top Municipal Park, West Bromwich, in the 1958 summer holidays before moving on to different secondary schools in Wednesbury.

At the time, it seemed pretty steamy to us three youngsters - but it's certainly not as vulgar as some of the other more unpleasant versions remembered elsewhere in these lists.

Thank you Diane and Carol - I wonder whatever became of you wicked little girls?

The first time I met her she was all dressed in white,
All in white all in white,
She held me to her, tight,
Down the dark valley where no-body goes.

The next time I met her she was all dressed in fawn,
All in fawn all in fawn,
She drew me by the horn,
Down the dark valley where no-body goes.

The next time I met her she was all dressed in black,
All in black all in black,
I kissed her lovely crack,
Down the dark valley where no-body goes.

The next time I met her she was all dressed in green,
All in green all in green,
I filled her up with cream,
Down the dark valley where no-body goes.

The next time I met her she was all dressed in blue,
All in blue all in blue,
She said the Doctor had told her a baby was due,
Down the dark valley where no-body goes.

The next time I met her she was all dressed in red,
All in red all in red,
She said her mother insisted that we must be wed,
Down the dark valley where no-body goes.

The last time I met her I was all dressed in grey,
All in grey all in grey,
I left home, the very next day,
Ne'er again to venture, down the dark valley where no-body goes.

Hey, let me tell y'all a true story.

My husband was in a casino just two days ago, and a lout dressed in camo called a female pit boss a cunt. (A pit boss is one step higher than a dealer.) Then what happened?

1. The pit boss was relieved of her place and a different pit boss came on, so the insulted woman would not be involved in a confrontation.

2. Three burly, steel-eyed security people (one female, two male) escorted the player and his sniggering buddy out of the casino.

3. Their hotel room for that night was cancelled.

I'm telling you this just so you know that there are places in this world where the kind of nastiness in this song is not considered funny. In fact, 'abnormal and vicious' would be more like it.

==================
PS Do you really believe a swash-buckling, two-fisted fighter wrote a verse with 'mauve' in it? Give me a break.

I always thought that this was another of our Liverpool vulgar songs. Kids used to sing this on school coach trips when I was a kid, and the lyrics may have been slightly different to some pasted here. It was always 'down the back alley' not anything else.

Another line I haven't seen mentioned above, was the exceptionally vulgar 'all in green all in green, I filled full of cream' yeah, not exactly rhyming! Poetic licence?! The closest one to the Liverpudlian one is Joe Offer's version 2.

Hi, Moorley Man - I moved my message from today over to this thread. One reason for keeping two threads is that the song is known by various names - I gether that "Down the Dark Alley" is the more common one.
I moved my message from today over to this thread, so there's nothing recent on that thread to keep it on the Forum Menu.

Think this and the "Lyr Req: Down The Dark Alley" thread should be combined, since they essentially discuss the same song.

I found another version at this site:
http://www.odps.org/glossword/index.php?a=term&d=3&t=108
down in the valley / down the back alley
  1. This oddly unsympathetic little ditty has been sent in as the "Oak Park School Camp Song", but I'm sure the original title is "Down in the valley" etc:

The first time I met her I met her in pink,
All in pink all in pink.
    She made my finger stink.
Down in the valley where I laid her down.

The next time I met her I met her in white,
All in white all in white.
I shagged her all that night.
Down in the valley where I laid her down.

The next time I met her I met her in green,
All in green all in green.
    She said the doctors been.
Down in the valley where I laid her down.

The next time I met her I met her in blue,
All in blue all in blue.
She said the twins were due.
Down in the valley where I laid her down.

The next time I met her I met her in red,
All in red all in red.
She said the twins were dead.
Down in the valley where I laid her down.

The next time I met her I met her check,
All in check all in check.
    I'll break her fucking neck.
Down in the valley where I laid her down.

The next time I met her I met her in black,
All in black all in black.
    I want my money back.
Down in the valley where I laid her down.

  2. Version 2:

The first time I met her I met her in white.
All in white, all in white,
She was a fucking good sight.
Down a dark alley where nobody goes.

The next time I met her, I met her in pink.
All in pink, all in pink,
    She made my fingers stink.
Down the back alley where nobody goes.

The next time I met her, I met her in red.
All in red, all in red,
She was so good in bed
Down the back alley where nobody goes.

The next time I met her, I met her in green,
All in green, all in green.
    She said 'The doctor's been'!
Down the back alley where nobody goes.

The next time I met her I met her in blue.
All in blue, all in blue,
    She said the baby's due.
Down the back alley where nobody goes.

The next time I met her, I met her in fawn,
All in fawn, all in fawn,
    She said 'The baby's born'.
Down the back alley where nobody goes.

The next time I met her I met her in red.
All in red, all in red,
    She said 'The baby's dead'.
Down the back alley where nobody goes.

The next time I met her, I met her in yellow,
All in yellow, all in yellow,
She said 'I've got another fella'.
Down the back alley where nobody goes.

The next time I met her, I met her in CHECK.
All in check, all in check,
    I BROKE HER FUCKING NECK!
Down the back alley where nobody goes.

For the record, here are the lyrics Snuffy linked to:

Down the Dark Alley

The first time I saw her she was all dressed in white
All in white, all in white, she kept me up all night
Down the dark alley where nobody goes

The next time I saw her she was all dressed in pink
All in pink , all in pink, she made my fingers stink
Down the dark alley where nobody goes

The next time I saw her she was all dressed in blue
All in blue , all in blue, she showed me what to do
Down the dark alley where nobody goes

The next time I saw her she was all dressed in red
All in red, all in red, I shagged her 'till she bled
Down the dark alley where nobody goes

The next time I saw her she was all dressed in cream
All in cream, all in cream, I really made her scream
Down the dark alley where nobody goes

The next time I saw her she was all dressed in brown
All in brown, all in all in brown, I shagged her upside down
Down the dark alley where nobody goes

The next time I saw her she was all dressed in magenta
All in magenta, all in magenta, I came so hard I bent her
Down the dark alley where nobody goes

The next time I saw her she was all dressed in mauve
All in mauve, all in mauve, I sucked 'till my lips froze
Down the dark alley where nobody goes

The next time I saw her she was all dressed in green
All in green, all in green, I licked her pussy clean
Down the dark alley where nobody goes

The next time I saw her she was all dressed in beige
All in beige, all in beige, but not until I paid
Down the dark alley where nobody goes

The next time I saw her she was all dressed in grey
All in grey, all in grey, a little goes a very long way
Down the dark alley where nobody goes

The next time I saw her she was all dressed in rose
All in rose, all in rose, she's cheap and God it shows
Down the dark alley where nobody goes

The last time I saw her she was all dressed in black
All in black, all in black, I want my money back
Down the dark alley where nobody goes

Hello,

Does anyone know the following song?

DOWN IN THE VALLEY   [pg. 6]

The first time I saw her she was all dressed in white,
All in white, all in white, my God, her cunt was tight,
Down in the valley where she followed me.

The next time I saw her she was all dressed in brown,
All in brown, all in brown, I took her knickers down,
Down in the valley where she followed me.

The next time I saw her she was all dressed in green,
All in green, all in green, I filled her soup tureen,
Down in the valley where she followed me.

The next time I saw her she was all dressed in fawn,
All in fawn, all in fawn, two little bastards born,
Down in the valley where she followed me.

The next time I saw her she was all dressed in red,
All in red, all in red, two little bastards dead,
Down in the valley where she followed me.

The next time I saw her she was all dressed in black,
All in black, all in black, boards nailed across her crack,
Down in the valley where she followed me.
