The song was written by Shel Silverstein. Whenever I listened to it I was in rooms filled with people and smoke, lotsa smoke, so I am going by an impaired memoery that is over 35 years old. Please note that I can't guarantee the chords are exact, but they will be pretty close. Note also that the 7th chord is crucial in this particular song. (Usually I could give a rat's ass about 7ths, but in this case it's a must.) BTW, which key do you want it in?

Dr. Hook must be big Shel Silverstein fans, since they also covered his song "The Cover Of The Rolling Stone". It's kinda sad that although it got them on the cover, Shel never made the cover of the rolling stone.
