Perhaps open G with a capo on 2.

The NPR performance was in A as is, I suspect, the CD version. My CD is out on loan or I'd check. Here's what it sounded like to me on NPR. I don't have a very good ear; feel free to tweak and rearrange.
- Phil

Dance Hall Girls
Alan Fraser

Capo 2 actual key is A
(G D7 G) (NC)These dance hall(G)girls,(D7)they don't treat you(G)kind,
They give you their bodies but(C)you'll never reach their(G)minds,
Well they(Bm)fill you up with (C)lipstick(G)lies,
When they put you(G)down, son,(D7)don't you be(Em)surprised,(C)
Is this the(G)way it always(D7)is here in Balti(G)more.

Well I saw her mountains and I kissed the plains,
I held her sunshine and I drank her rains,
I went so far that I broke too fast,
Thought I had me a winner picked but it came in last, again,
Is this the way it always is here in Baltimore.

Bridge:
(Bm)I must've chosen the wrong(C)season to come(G)down,
(Bm)I never realized they(C)call this sacred(D7)ground.

My sense of time, hell, I'm a week behind,
I sent me a letter home but this all takes time,
Gonna get some cash, gonna go back home,
These dance hall girls really know how to make a man feel alone,
Is this the way it always is here in Baltimore.

Bridge

My sense of time, hell I'm a week behind
I sent me a letter home but this all takes time
Gonna get some cash, gonna blow this town
These dance hall girls really know how to drag a poor boy down
Is this the way it always is here in Baltimore
Is this the way it always is here in Baltimore

Thanks from me as well, Uncle Phil.

Do you want to try your hand at decoding the chords to "Armstrong Tourest Rest Home" and "Gypsy Solitaire"?

Cheerily,
Charley Noble
