After about 38 years of playing in bands, or doing short solo appearances as part of bigger shows, I finally have my own two-hour concert on Jan. 6. Just me. No one else. Maybe a back-up guitarist, but otherwise, it's all me. I'm calling all the shots. Me. A night of old-time country tunes and songs on banjo, harmonica, tenor guitar and autoharp. Sentimental and comic songs, tunes from All over the U.S. and Canada, Gospel songs, Some Country songs from the 50's in old time style. Starring Me, Steve Garcia.

Excuse me if I sound full of myself, but I've been waiting close to 40 years for this. I'm thrilled.

Should you happen to be in the central Delaware Valley area, (New Jersey or Pennsylvania), and are interested, I'd love to meet you. It's at the Church of the Brethren, Sergentsville, NJ. You can PM me for directions.

Steve

Did my first solo last August Ranger .... well, a girl sang and threw some flute interludes in there while I played guitar to 3 songs which I wrote .... I was nervous as hell ... but pulled it off pretty good, much thanks to the singer/flute player.

It sure felt good afterwards.

The Brethern (four major splits) are ALL four "nothing but the Bible and the whole Bible" based on a "saved by Grace and Grace only" conservative belief.

To be invited is a mark of acceptance.

You are therefore....not going to be playing "Cripple Creek"...I, sincerely, hope.

Actually, I know very little about the Brethren Church. The former pastor. originally from Virginia, and a guitar-playing, country-singing man, himself, started the concert series as an attempt to boost the size of the congregation and bring some badly needed money into the church. It worked. There are usually 2 concerts a month on Satruday nights, all Bluegrass, Old-time and Country, and a monthly Gospel concert on the second Sunday night, in which anyone who can carry a tune is welcome to perform a song or two. The shows are pretty popular and usually attract an audience of 100 people. The pastor has since retired, but the congregation knows a good thing when they see it, so the concerts continue. I've played there before, in shows where I was one of about a dozen performers, and the audience is one of the best I've ever played for.
