black walnut, is that kat as in katlaughing? I'd like to meet her, but really there are LOADS of catters I'd like to meet, I really would be fascinated to meet Clinton Hammond! He is so forthright I'd love to see him in action!
Skarpi is another person I'd LOVE to meet, my list is far too long. I'd love to meet you all - especially GUEST! now there is a complex character if ever I saw one!

I don't like to leave out names, because some of the ones I've met by chance (a couple hundred, I'd guess)have been fascinating....but maybe a small list off the top on my head,,,,,,Don Firth and Deckman from Wash. State....Wolfgang, , Alice from Montana, katlaughing (maybe this Fall), Stilly River Sage, Bee-Dubya-Ell, Don Meixner, McGrath of Harlow, Midchuck, ....a whole list from Australia, starting with Alison & Bob Bolton...., Mooh, a couple dozen from the UK...(yes....especially joHn from Hull)...but also Malcolm Douglas, ....then harpgirl (or whatever name she is hiding under now...*grin*), ......oh, it's getting hard not to name 43 more! ...but there are a couple others....Peace......and if she is still with us, Shula. (old timers will understand)

Yes...I could triple that list, and maybe Jerry Rasmussen (whom I HAVE met) had the right idea.

Emma B....sorry if it sounded like I was initiating a "beauty contest". I didn't mean it that way. I have built a lovely friendship here on Mudcat, and although we live far apart, we would both someday like to get together in person. One of the things I've appreciated so much about this place is the fun of meeting up.   A couple of years ago I had the pleasure of visiting with several 'Catters across the pond and am always thankful for the hospitality and continued friendship.

In other words, I wasn't trying to put anyone on a pedestal. I think we're all on pretty much even ground here.

Over here, the Getaway is THE place to meet Catters. Unfortunately, I'll have to wait almost two years before I can come to it, as I am committed to NOMAD next year, and it's the same weekend. The times that I've performed in the Washington area, there were Catters coming in the windows. That makes performing there very special.

A family had twin boys whose only resemblance to each other was their looks. If one felt it was too hot, the other thought it was too cold. If one said the TV was too loud, the other claimed the volume needed to be turned up. Opposite in every way, one was an eternal optimist, the other a doom & gloom pessimist.

Just to see what would happen, on the twins' birthday their father loaded the pessimist's room with every imaginable toy and game. The optimist's room he loaded with horse manure.

That night the father passed by the pessimist's room and found him sitting amid his new gifts crying bitterly.

"Why are you crying?" the father asked.

"Because my friends will be jealous, I'll have to read all these instructions before I can do anything with this stuff, I'll constantly need batteries, and my toys will eventually get broken." answered the pessimist twin.

Passing the optimist twin's room, the father found him dancing for joy in the pile of manure. "What are you so happy about?" he asked.

To which his optimist twin replied, "There's got to be a pony in here somewhere!"

SOMEbody's paying attention.

I play Crib all the time. Played a few games New Years Eve. Our plans fell through at the last minute and so we stayed home, made a nice dinner played some Cribbage, drank some wine and moved on to other pleasures. The kids were all out for the evening so it was nice and quiet. Finished up by watching Garrison Keillor's New Year's Eve Special on PBS. Lots of fun. The Cribbage was the least of it.

I kept myself in pizza all through college, playing Euchre. My parents were members of a Euchre club for most of their lives. I think it's a midwest U.S. game now... No one has even heard of it on the East Coast.

If I ever make it to the Getaway, I'm looking for players. Ruth has no interest in cards. She more than compensates, in other ways...

Been a Euchre player all my life.....One of the earliest games I played. When we moved back here, Karen had never played and the first Euchre party we went to was a bit "traumatic" for her but eventually we had a regular group of good friends who got together once a month for lots of good food and good cards.....and good fun.
