Subject: RE: Geordie Hannah? & sister Sarah Ann O'Nie From: GUEST Date: 19 Oct 09 - 06:07 PM anyone would like a copy of the Eagrán album 'Geordie Hanna Sings' or 'The Banks of Lough Neagh', then please send me a personal message. Bear in mind that both albums have been copied from vinyl to cassette and thence burnt on a CD, so the sound quality is not the best. All the best, Geoff geoff I have been trying to get hold of a copy of these recordings for some time, i would be delighted if you could assist me regards martin |

Subject: RE: Geordie Hannah? & sister Sarah Ann O'Nie From: GUEST Date: 23 Jan 07 - 06:02 PM I have a copy of The Fisher's Cot CD that Geaordie Hanna's family put together in 2002. This is a great CD with songs such as "The Lisburn Lass" "Brocagh Brae", "Paddy's green shamrock shore" etc. I'm not sure if its still available to purchase (maybe John Moulden could help us on this one?) Geoff i read your review of it here; http://www.irishmusicreview.com/ghanna.htm can't get the hang of hyperlinks! |

Subject: RE: Geordie Hannah? & sister Sarah Ann O'Nie From: MartinRyan Date: 18 Jan 07 - 02:29 AM Declan Hopefully Hell has nothing to do with it! Regards |
Subject: RE: Geordie Hannah? & sister Sarah Ann O'Nie From: Declan Date: 17 Jan 07 - 08:02 PM Guest, I'm sure it is very important that you preserve the anonymity of any musician who mentioned Geordie Hannah. Since you dropped four other names in two sentences, you might let us in on what the hell you're on about. |
Subject: RE: Geordie Hannah? & sister Sarah Ann O'Nie From: MartinRyan Date: 17 Jan 07 - 02:53 PM No doubt! |
Subject: RE: Geordie Hannah? & sister Sarah Ann O'Nie From: GUEST Date: 17 Jan 07 - 02:49 PM A traditional music player, who I will not name to protect his privacy (who has played on album with Michael McConnell, brother of Cathal McConnell of "Boys of the Lough", which Robin Morton above also belonged to) and who recently moved to a district not far away also mentioned a tradtional singer called Geordie Hanna from Co. Tyrone (near Lough Neagh) and I am sure it is the same person. |
Subject: RE: Geordie Hannah? & sister Sarah Ann O'Nie From: GUEST,Martin Ryan Date: 17 Jan 07 - 05:32 AM Yes - it was very enjoyable. I had missed the original broadcast and was glad to have picked up on it. Regards |

Subject: RE: Geordie Hannah? & sister Sarah Ann O'Nie From: MartinRyan Date: 16 Jan 07 - 05:19 PM Incidentally, don't be put off by the Gaelic introduction, if you don't understand that language. Most of the program and Sarah Anne's wonderful singing, is in English and there are subtitles for the Gaelic sections. Regards |
Subject: RE: Geordie Hannah? & sister Sarah Ann O'Nie From: MartinRyan Date: 16 Jan 07 - 04:58 PM OK Not all of the site is available in English, so try this if necessary: Go to This Page . Launch the Webtv section. Pick Ceol Cartlann from the menu Select the second item from the menu - watch out for Sarah Anne's name! Many of the other programs in this archive will be worth watching also, of course. Regards |
Subject: RE: Geordie Hannah? & sister Sarah Ann O'Nie From: GUEST,sorefingers Date: 16 Jan 07 - 02:06 PM Thanks for the reference Matthew, I followed that one and hopefully I can get a copy of the CD. Barry, thanks for the references and information. It would be great if somebody over there in Ireland would gather together all the older recordings and e-publish them over the internet. I am certain they would make a good profit on the outlay. TG 4 4 is an RTE service over the internet which runs on any computer. I have cable internet and an XP computer about 3 years old, it plays the show on MS media player. |
Subject: RE: Geordie Hannah? & sister Sarah Ann O'Nie From: GUEST,Martin Ryan Date: 16 Jan 07 - 04:58 AM Barry TG4 is the (allegedly) Irish language TV station in Ireland. They broadcast quite a lot of good quality traditional music - sometimes with English subtitles. Regards p.s. "allegedly" because in fact they broadcast quite a lot of material in English - not to mention American. |
Subject: RE: Geordie Hannah? & sister Sarah Ann O'Nie From: Barry Finn Date: 16 Jan 07 - 01:04 AM Hi sorefingers Is there a link for this TG 4 webcast? I don't know what TG 4 is & I'm not to sure about webcast either but I am sure this was as good a place as any to post that info. I know of Geordie Hanna & his sister Sarah Anne O'Neill only from a tape that I had from back in the late 70's & have since missed, they were something to listen to, as were all the others. I still have the accompying book "Traditional Songs & Singers" put out by Comhaltas in 1977. Geordie was featured doing 2 songs & Sarah doing one in the book & on the companion tape. They were in fine company of number of other singers, including some of Ireland's finest (IMHO); Tom 'O Coisdealbha (Tom Phaidin Tom), Paddy Tunney, Elizabeth Cronin. Micheal 'O Suilleabhain, Sarah & Rita Keane, Siney Crotty, Michael Flanagan, Paddy Berry & a few others. I sure wish that I could find that tape each voice on it was worth the whole collection. Thanks Barry |

Subject: BS: Geordie Hannah? & sister Sarah Ann O'Nie From: GUEST,sorefingers Date: 15 Jan 07 - 01:53 PM Ok this may not be the right place for this but habits are familiar to old foakies like me. On TG 4 Webcast I found and listened to several Gaelic Folk programs. Among them, and excluding the didledee shows - if you have that patience to go through several of these to get to the good stuff, it is well worth the effort - I found this last week posted again an entire show about the Hannah family of Derry ?Tesc? in one of Ireland's northern Counties. Anyway because I already knew a little about British folk singing and had heard of Len Graham and others, the content of the show was not new to me, BUT the singing of Sarah Anne I had never heard, nor indeed that of Geordie. So if you know about this amazing family, please tell me all. Thanks |
