It has come to our notice that if you google for Holmfirth and Folk and Festival it comes up with Holmfirth Folk Festival and the site then tells you that the next one will be in Shepley in 2007.
Well as readers of this forum will know Holmfirth Festival of Folk committee took over the oraganisation of all things folky in Holmfirth in 2006 and very well they did it too - a good time was had by all.
And it will be happening again from May 11th - 13th and up to date information can be found on www.holmfirthfestivaloffolk.co.uk
It would be nice if the organisers of Shepley Spring Festival could make this clear on their web site but we will have to wait and see if they are prepared to do that.
In the meantime please feel free to tell all the people you know that we will be in Holmfirth on the weekend after the Bank Holiday weekend in May.
Cath

Just home after another 3 hour planning mtg ! Holmfirth festival of folk is ready to roll.

We had 15 people at the mtg this evening and everyone is on with tasks to make it all happen - most of the money is secured and we are getting lots of support from local buisnesses and local people. programme pretty much sorted and nearly everything is free inc most of the bigger concerts - but we will be round with buckets !

Chumbawamba is the one big name concert with a reasonable £15 price tag.

Already got 18 morris sides turning out, the school programme sorted and campsite all in place.

Hopefully we have ironed out any little glitches from last year.

This is a massive volunteer effort and all you lot have to do is turn up and enjoy.

Stewards and dance sides will be welcome and get free camping - please check our proper website address to get contact info.

It really would be smashing to have the old Holmfirth Folk Festival website acknowledge our efforts and signpost people over.

What a shame the organisations don't get on.

It has come to our notice that if you google for Holmfirth and Folk and Festival it comes up with Holmfirth Folk Festival and the site then tells you that the next one will be in Shepley in 2007

here. will take you to the HFoF

I tried googling as you suggested. "Holmfirth Folk Festival" takes you to the 2005 site (clearly not this year!!)where it explains there is a new folk festival at Shepley and gives you a new website to contact.

Adding "+" signs (Holmfirth+Festival+Folk)or putting the words in any other order in Google takes you to Holmfirth Festival of Folk.
I don't see the problem.

Good Luck guys, my team Orange Peel Morris danced there in 2004. Yes I know that was the old organization but I do like to see a good festival continue in any way shape or form.
Good Luck in your second year, JohnB

my side are poised to write and confirm we will be there too, following a unanimous decision at last nights meeting - this will be our first time at Holfirth as a side, although me and hubby have been two years running as punters and thoroughly enjoyed the festival

Just to follow what Panurus said a few hours ago - most of the events are free but buckets will be passed!
To that end we need people with charm, powers of persuasion and elegance or just sheer cussedness who are able to extract money out of tight fisted tykes and others. Just to give you an incentive - we have got some new posh buckets for use this year!
If you would like to help to do this or would like to volunteer for other stewarding duties please drop us a PM and I'll pass you on to Jenny who is in charge of this part of the organisation.
Thanks in anticipation, Cath

We've already got one guest coming from Ireland via Aberdeen, maybe we could ask him to bring a few more folk with him!

Is it right Cath that one of the instructions to the collectors is that they are not allowed to accept £50 notes due to the large amount of forgeries.

The instructions to collectors are to take anything that can be spent in the local shops. We accept Scottish notes, Euros, travellors cheques and even coins of the realm.
Jenny has got some lovely new collecting buckets that she's really looking forward to trying out!
Roll up! Roll u!

Just a quick update.
The guest list is about finished and the publicity flyers will be out on Wednesday. The few events for which tickets are required are Chumbawamba, The John Richards Band and the Red Parrots Ceilidh - all the rest will be free on production of a financial contribution to the bucket.
At the last count there are over 20 dance sides with some brilliant ones on the list.
Take a look at the web site - www.holmfirthfestivaloffolk.co.uk - (I can't do blue clicky things) where Alan is doing his best to keep it up to date.

At first seeing that Chumbawumba were on I thought "oh no i'll give that one a miss", but seeing as it's a seperate concert I know I can avoid them. Good selection of dance sides.
Cheers

come come Les, chumbawamba switched me onto folk stuff when i was a black rag clad, young vegan idealist with 5 dogs on a string !

that interest has seen me evolve (???) into what I am today... I started eating meat , and drank real ale till i doubled in size, and I became the squire of a morris side to boot !

now their material is more folk than punk and i still have the lot - i still think of the old days while i shuffle into work for the united kingdom Co to go to meetings and respond to email.

RE HFoF this year there is loads of choice - and will see a mix of old and young, trad and modern, free and to pay for. Dance sides are lining up to come now and streets should be throng.

tell all your mates...

I thought that would getsomebody going. My only experience of Chumbawhotsit was at Beverly a couple of years ago. They were on dead late & we had just got back to the campsite after a night following a dance team around town. We trailed into the concert hall & watched two or three acoustic songs & I thought, yea not bad & then they just started doing all their pop stuff with all that rapping crap. And we then joined the exodus for the door.
Not my cup of tea.
Cheers
Les

So Panurus you are telling us that Chumbawamba made you the man you are today! I think I'll stick with the Jake Thackray Experience on Saturday night - just in case!

Blimey Cath - does that mean we're going to have to practice?

Don't worry Ian, that's where I was planning to be anyway! You sounded pretty polished to me last year and if I closed my eyes at times I would have thought it was Jake in person.
Is our local lad Hugh a regular part of the group these days?

Yup, Hugh is our bass player extraordinaire - plus nifty guitar and vocals too, the swine. We're in Knutsford, Cheshire next weekend (10th February) by the way. Ian
