Subject: Lyr Req: Dublin song - Liberty Boy From: GUEST,Derek Date: 17 Jan 07 - 07:36 AM Hello to all. Love this site. Has the lyrics of songs i never thought i could get. But there's one song, i think its called Liberty Boy, which i would love to get the lyrics to. It starts something like: 'I was born and raised in a darling spot...'. If anyone could help me out with the lyrics and chords i would be extremely grateful. Cheers all and, once again, great site |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dublin song - Liberty Boy From: Scrump Date: 17 Jan 07 - 09:32 AM Irish comedian/singer Brendan Grace recorded it - it may be available on CD, in which case you could get the CD and transcribe the words. His website is at http://www.brendangrace.irl.com, but I couldn't find the song on any of the currently available CDs (I should check though, I only had a quick look). HTH |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dublin song - Liberty Boy From: GUEST,Eoghan Date: 11 Feb 08 - 08:21 AM Hello, Interested to see this correspondence. As I understand it, the lyrics were written by my late grandfather, Edward Nevin (1910-1997). He was born and bred in the Liberties (Ardee Street). I have neither the lyrics nor the music for this but I think it might feature on a Brendan Grace LP called "His Grace in Dublin" or something like that. Wasn't it a single also? |
Subject: Lyr Add: SAILING HOME (Dublin City Ramblers) From: Shaneo Date: 11 Feb 08 - 08:32 AM Would it be the one The Dublin City Ramblers had out? Dublin city ramblers singing sailing home.. Lyr... (more) Added: January 19, 2008 Dublin city ramblers singing sailing home.. Lyrics I'm a liberty boy; that I'll never deny And I love the old town I was born in And I rue the day that I sailed away On a grey November morning Me love shed a tear as she stood by the pier But I told her I had to be going She's my treasure and pearl She's my old darling girl But my wild oats I have to be sowing CHORUS: I'm sailing home to Dublin city To the one who's waiting for me there Home again to Dublin city Oh, how I'm longing to be there I've seen all the sights of this great world's delights And I've sailed from Vancouver to Dover I've hunted the whale and weathered the gale Now my roving days are all over For I miss Moore Street smell and the auld Liffey swell And the pigeon-house lights in the evening On Sandymount strand where we walked hand in hand And we watched while the mail boat was leaving. CHORUS TWICE |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Liberty Boy (Edward Nevin) From: GUEST Date: 19 Nov 11 - 06:59 PM Dear ALL, As one of the grand daughters of Edward Nevin, I know he would be very honoured to know that you have so much interest in the song that he wrote back in the seventies. He was a man who was born in the heart of the liberties (1910)and was really proud of it. He passed away in 1997 but is remembered very fondly by us all. I am very proud to be related to such a fine and kind man and hope that his song will continue to be remembered so fondly. Last night Brendan Grace was a guest on the Ryan Tubridy show and they showed a clip of him singing the Liberty Boy. I can tell you it brought back some very happy memories of my grandfather Edward. Thank you all for your very kind word about his song. His grand daughter Niamh |
