Micho Russell the famous traditional musician from Doolin in Co.Clare was also well known as a singer. He had a great store of unusual songs some of them comic songs. One of them which he called MR.NOSEY It consists of seven verses. Here is the first verse

A WONDERFUL TALE I AM NOW GOING TO DISCLOSE
CONCERNING A MAN WITH A VERY LARGE NOSE
WITH AN ELEPHANT TRUNK THAT REACHES HIS TOES
AND WITH IT HE'D DEAL OUT SOME TERRIBLE BLOWS.

I have a feeling it could be a very old music-hall song.I would grateful for any information about it's origin. If anybody wants the other six verses I will gladly pass them on.

Wasn't it on that LP of 'Mr Men Songs' with the late Arthur Lowe (of Dad's Army fame)?

I acn't remember them all, but one that sticks in my mind is "Mr Greedy's Little Light Lunch". Of course the lunch was anything but little and light!

Buggered if I can remember the words now though.

Here are the other verses of the MR.NOSEY song as sung by Micko Russell.

THIS WONDERFUL CHAP IS ABOUT NINE FOOT HIGH
WITH A COMICAL SQUINT AND A MOUTH ALL AWRY
THOUGH BRAWNY HIS ARMS,HIS LEGS ARE SO LIGHT
THAT HE'D GIVE A SPRING AND JUMP CLEAR OUT OF SIGHT

THIS CHAP WORE A HAT WHICH WAS MADE LIKE A BASIN
WITH A RIM WIDE ENOUGH FOR A DONKEY TO RACE IN
SUCH A DEUCE OF A FELLOW WAS HE TO TAKE SNUFF
THAT A POUND AT A PINCH WAS HARDLY ENOUGH

AT LAST CAME A SAILOR WITH COURAGE IN STORE
AND SAID HE WOULD TACKLE THIS LONG SNOUTED BOAR
BUT THE NOSE MADE HIM HOP LIKE A GRIM PANTALOON
AND TOSSED HIM SO HIGH HE WENT BACK THROUGH THE MOON

THE PEOPLE WERE ALL THEN GAZING IN FEAR
WHEN THEY SAW THE POOR SAILOR HIS COURSE UPWARD STEER
THEY TOOK TO THERE HEELS AND THEY MADE THEIR CLEAR
FOR A BLOW FROM HIS NOSE WOULD MAKE THEM FEEL QUEER

A GUARD FROM THE QUEEN AT LAST MADE A GAP
THROUGH THE DOOR OF THE HOUSE OF THIS TERRIBLE CHAP
THEY FOUND HIM IN BED JUST TAKINT A NAP
WITH HIS NOSE ROUND HIS HEAD INSTEAD OF A CAP

THEY CREEP UP ONE BY ONE ON THE FLOOR
I THINK IN ALL THERE NEAR SIXTY SCORE
THEY TRIED TO SECURE HIM BUT MARKED BY THE BOAR
HE JUMPED THROUGH THE ROOF AND WAS NEVER SEEN MORE!

I wonder what happened to the poor man and where did he end up? Anyway if there is anyone out there could enlighten me regarding the origin of this song I would be most grateful.
