Alison, you have shattered me. I thought this was serious.
Back to my guitar for a verse of Wal's in Matt Hilder.

Seasoned gratings from the land of the roos.

Kahlan...... they are deliberately making a parody of it... the original and various versions are here in the database.

Welcome to mudcat... home to some very friendly people, many with a twisted sense of humour *grin*

The song is actually called "The Wild Rover"... As I heard it was... "Well, I've been a wild rover for many a year, And I've spent all my money on whiskey and beer. But now I'm returning with gold in great store, and I never will play the wild rover no more..." There are more lyrics.... bluejeanjane@hotmail.com

Ass eye-wash,glowing clover
The forkin' carry mountains
Eye met twit Cap n'ferret
Andy's monkeys he was mounting
I farced produce and rape yer
I then seduced my fist-hole
Sane Stan and his liver
Four-eyed hamster, baldy Seever
with a ring-comma-do comma-da...

Vixen, give us one or more of the Franglais (though I'm not sure, whether my Franglais will suffice for understanding).
here's the start of a German translation of the While, Drover:
Alf Biene, weil Troja
formen hieáe Ghia..

It shows beautifully how all those names tend to get lost or culturally adapted in a translation which is what makes research on folksongs so difficult.

Then out of my pocket I took soverigns bright
And spun them and waved them to gleam in the light
The landlady frowned, snarled, now if I'm right
This is Canada, not England, keep your soverigns, Good night!

...my parents...
...and if they lend me money as oftimes before
then I'll not bollux this song, the while Drover, no more

That's my take on a song that gets too holy. Thanks so much to the Shambles. I haven't grinned like that in quite a while.

Deary Me--

You're all writing in ANGUISH. I have a collection of short stories and songs with titles such as "Ladle Rat Rotten Hut," "Guilty-Looks Under Tree Bares," and "Hormone Derange"

I have a similar collection in FRANGLISH, called "Mots l'heure gousses rames"

Ice hood Ave. noon eyed fined kin dread soles hear.

The copy of "The Wild Rover" in John Ashton's 'Modren Street Ballads' is a bit different than that in DT.

I liked Over Fell. We do however have a Came Down, here in Dorset.

Have you come across Ronnie Biggs over there in Brazil?

Could this possibly No Nay Never, aka Wild Rover as found in the DT? I would allow after a few drafts, especially on St. Paddy's Day it could sound like that....The later into the evening it gets the more the possibility! What did St. Patrick say to drive the snakes out of Ireland? He said, "Snake, the other white meat, tastes like chicken"

I once knew a risky Anne but it was without the e and I rather enjoyed the risk (if you want to know what the risk was..never will this secret pass my lips...but it was fun). Gnome Moor is part of Over Fell in Cumbria, a weirder and more desolate spot you will never find in the North west of England. Andy Now had a famous chip shop in Bridlington, and was famous for his generous 'scrumps'. Manny Goodyear is still a gentleman's outfitters (Bespoke) in Whitechapel.

There I hope that cleared that up.

Can you help me please with this song, that I heard played on St Patrick's Night. I think the title is The While, Drover. I managed to write down the beginning of it, maybe you could help me with rest. I did try the title in the DT but it was not there?

Ivor Bean, a while, drover,
For 'Manny', a GOODYEAR.
An ice bend, hall harmony,
Honour 'Risky' Anne Bier.

Andy Now, armoury, turning,
Wig holding, raised oar.
Hand Island, endeavour, whelp lay,
The while, drover, Gnome Moor.

Hand, tits, know, neigh, neither,
Know, neigh, neither, Gnome Moor.
Will Eye? Play, the while, drover, know, neither, Gnome Moor.

This poses a number of interesting questions: Where is this 'spooky' sounding Gnome Moor to be found and who is this, 'Risky' Anne Bier and why should we honour her? I'm not too sure if the word, play is correct, in the last line, I could have misheard that. It was getting late.
