I am looking to the lyrics to an old old song called Freckle Face. Some of the lyrics I recall are

"Freckle-face, freckle-face,
your face is a big disgrace.
You think you're a lot,
but you've only got
a freckle face"

and

"Go home and wash your face with Soapolio.:

Don't worry, it sounds bad but he gets the girl in the end.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: Lyr Add: FRECKLE FACE, YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL
From: Jim Dixon

Not the song you wanted, I'm sure, but fun to hear anyway. My transcription from a recording found at Spotify:

FRECKLE FACE, YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL
Words and music by Cliff Friend & Carmen Lombardo, ©1934.
As sung by Al Bowlly with Ray Noble & His Orchestra on "The HMV Sessions, 1930-1934, Vol. 13," 2011.

Freckle Face,
To think I used to call you Freckle Face,
And now you glitter in a gown of lace.
You're beautiful,
Lovely and beautiful.

Freckle Face,
Just like a flower in a sunny place,
You've grown so pretty and your freckle face
Is beautiful.
Yes, dear, you're beautiful.

But not so long ago,
I used to tease you so,
Pull the funny pigtails in your hair.
Now I can't conceal
The sweet surprise I feel
Finding you a lovely lady fair.

Oh, Freckle Face,
A work of magic must have taken place
To give you all that lovely charm and grace.
You're beautiful,
Yes, my little Freckle Face.

Billboard had this to say in a review on May 26, 1956:

JOE WARD
[A] Freckle Face

KING 4931 – Eight-year-old Joe Ward, longtimer on the "Juvenile Jury" TV show, again turns to disking with this tome [sic] to a freckley lady. Gal turns out to be "Mother," which gives a cute twist. The lad shows okay juvenile-styled showmanship and the disk could win some kiddie action. (Goday, BMI)
[B] Rock and Roll Merry-Go-Round . . .

Freckle face, freckle face,
we don't want you around this place.
If I were you, straight home I'd go
and wash my face with Sapolio.
Freckle face, freckle face,
your face is a real disgrace.
You think you're a lot,
but you've only got
a freckled face.

Years flew along, the little boys grew.
The good looking one and the freckled one too.
Each still in love with the dear little maid,
who wore puffs and curls and no longer a braid.
She wasn't quite sure which one she would take.
If she took one, would the other's heart break.
She wasn't quite sure 'til she thought of the day
when the nice looking one was so mean as to say.

Chorus...

And she married the freckled face boy.

Subject: Lyr Add: FRECKLE FACE (L Scarlett / E Williams)

From the sheet music viewable at the web site of The University of Oregon:

FRECKLE FACE
Words, Leroi Scarlett; music, Edna Williams.
New York: Jos. W. Stern & Co., ©1911.

1. Two little boys loved one little maid:
A dear little miss with her hair in a braid.
One was a nice little good-looking chap.
The other had freckles all over his map.
These little boys were always at strife.
Each said he'd grow up and claim as his wife
The dear little girl with her hair in a braid,
And the nice-looking one to the freckled one said:

CHORUS: Freckle face! Freckle face!
We don't want you around the place.
If I were you, straight home I'd go
And scrub my face with Sapolio.
Freckle face! Freckle face!
Your face is a real disgrace.
You think you're a lot,
But you've only got
A freckle face.

2. Years flew along; the little boys grew,
The good-looking one and the freckled one too,
Each still in love with the dear little maid
Who wore puffs and curls and no longer a braid.
She wasn't sure which one she would take.
If she chose one, would the other's heart break?
She wasn't quite sure, till she thought of the day
Long ago when she heard the freckled [sic*] one say: CHORUS

[* The last line of verse 2 makes no sense to me as written. Also, the sheet music doesn't say that she chose the freckle-faced boy. I guess you're supposed to infer that.

[I wonder if the recorded version—I assume there was one—was different.]

Jim, I don't know how you found that, but thanks! My grandma used to sing that to us when we were little and I thought the lyrics were lost forever. An odd song, but nice memories.

Thanks!
