Looking for the lyrics of 'Tears of an Exile' originally written for a young Michael English by Theresa (Teresa) O'Donnell from Kildare (Ireland) who also wrote 'Walking the streets in the rain' sung by Butch Moore 1965 Eurovision.

Can anyone help?

Regards

Pádraig

Thanks Skipy, I'll have to wait until I hear it either on radio or the net again as I rarely go into town to the shops (fear of spending money!).

Again, thanks

Regards

Padraig

P.S. I once knew a guy called Skipy who had an Austrialian connection around 1978-80 in Waterford RTC, Ireland as it was known then...any connection?

Subject: Lyr Add: THE TEARS OF AN EXILE
From: Jim Dixon

I assume this is the same song, but I haven't heard it sung by Michael English.

THE TEARS OF AN EXILE
As sung by Sean Wilson on "The Best of Country & Irish" (2012)

I'm one of those people who sing for a livin'
And music took me to the great USA,
And I saw the sorrow each place that we played in,
The tears of her exiles so far, far away.
They'd say, "Sing us a verse of The Green Glens of Antrim
Do you know the words of The Hills of Tyrone
Sing Galway Bay for the tears of an exile,
Or anything else that reminds us of home.

From Boston to Brooklyn, from Texas to Denver,
From Maine to Nebraska and to Idaho,
I sang ev'ry song for the tears of an exile,
A story to sing in each place that we'd go.
You'd hear, "Sing us a verse of The Dear Little Shamrock.
Do you know The Tumbledown Shack in Athlone?
Sing Danny Boy for the tears of an exile,
Or anything else that reminds us of home."

I'm back once again on the stages of Ireland,
And each town I play, I remember the time
When I sang the songs for the tears of an exile.
Oh, how it hurt me to leave them behind!
You'd hear, "Sing us a verse of The Lakes of Killarney.
Please sing Lovely Leitrim or Molly Malone.
Sing Skibbereen for the tears of an exile,
Or anything else that reminds us of home."

I dream of the day we'll have gold in the mountains,
And they can come home to old Ireland to stay.
Till then in my heart I am thinking about them.
The tears of an exile still haunts me today.
They sing, "Can you remember The Coastline of Mayo,
My Donegal Shore and The Mountains of Mourne?
Please sing Boulavogue for the tears of an exile,
Or anything else that reminds me of home.

"Please sing Croppy Boy for the tears of an exile,
Or anything else that reminds me of home."
