Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: Rasener Date: 01 May 07 - 04:34 PM I was there a couple of weeks ago on the Sunday evening and everything seemed to be OK. Had a very nioe evening and the owners seemed sypathetic to folkies. Not much changed I think apart from the name of the pub. New thread Station Inn Whitby |
Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: Geoff the Duck Date: 01 May 07 - 03:21 PM GUESt just above - The decor is not that far removed from what it was previously. Some of the furniture and fittings have changed and some fresh paint is in evidence. Some of the pictures on the walls are the same as before, but other stuff has gone. We called by a couple of weekends back following a morning on the beach with the ducklings, so cannot comment on what happens on an evening. We were made welcome. Perhaps someone ought to start a new thread for the Station Hotel Whitby and close this thread with a Blue Clicky? Quack! Geoff the Duck. |
Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: GUEST Date: 01 May 07 - 10:43 AM Is this place still the same then or have there been many changes? Does this affect Moor and Coast or Folk Week at all? |

Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: GUEST Date: 21 Apr 07 - 04:05 AM A lot of drinking i expect! I hope those 'door supervisors' are ready for a song or two. Cant wait |
Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: GUEST,Guest jj Date: 21 Apr 07 - 04:00 AM Sorry, the pub formely known as the tap? |
Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: GUEST Date: 21 Apr 07 - 03:56 AM Why not look at moor and coast website? |
Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: GUEST,Guest jj Date: 21 Apr 07 - 02:40 AM What is going on at the tap on moor coast weekend? Will anyone be there? |
Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: Soldier boy Date: 17 Apr 07 - 09:29 PM Geoff the duck. They probably do keep photofit photos behind the bar but your colourful attire and the yellow plastic duck floating on the froth of your beer in your tankard might, I suggest, have revealed your secret identity! God bless the ducks. |
Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: GUEST,paddylayback Date: 17 Apr 07 - 07:21 PM I'm told that this Friday features Irish music with "Blarney Stone". Assume it's 9-11 as in the past.. will try to get there anyway! |
Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: Rasener Date: 17 Apr 07 - 05:05 AM Nice to see a few mudcatters last Sunday |
Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: GUEST,M&C Date: 16 Apr 07 - 06:05 PM The Tap (now called the Station Inn) does have a door supervisor, (as they are called)on Friday and Saturday nights... In the old days before regulation the landlord used to supervise his own door... unless he holds the national door supervisors licence now he is breaking the law... strange but true... |
Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: Raggytash Date: 16 Apr 07 - 10:31 AM 100 ....... well someone had too ! |
Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: English Jon Date: 16 Apr 07 - 08:23 AM Strange. The one time I went to the Tap and Spile was purely by chance at the end of Sword Spectacular one year. There just happened to be a session on. They couldn't have made us more welcome and it will always go down in my memory as one of the nicest, friendliest pubs in the world, with great music and great beer. Cheers, Jon |
Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: GUEST Date: 16 Apr 07 - 07:18 AM Yes the term is doorstaff I believe |
Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: gnomad Date: 15 Apr 07 - 07:20 PM Door staff are becoming quite widespread in the town, sometimes as a requirement of the license, sometimes as self-preservation. I think this one must be the latter, as the presence seems to be only part-time. If you saw the same chap I have seen there a few times he looks pretty fearsome, but is perfectly civilised. BTW, I've a hunch they don't like the term bouncer these days, too clear a description. Obfuscation rules, UK? 8-] |
Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: Jean(eanjay) Date: 15 Apr 07 - 04:49 PM Passed by The Station Inn yesterday evening; was that a bouncer I saw on the door? We're hoping to be back in Whitby in a couple of weeks so we'll try and get in for a drink. Geoff the Duck, I thought that was good that you were recognised. I don't think anybody will recognise me though! |
Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: Geoff the Duck Date: 15 Apr 07 - 04:34 PM Went in this afternoon. Minding our own business when one of the new owners (the one we've not met before) came in. "Are you the Ducks?", quoth he! Do they keep photofit pictures behind the bar? Quack! Geoff. |

Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: Mrs.Duck Date: 14 Apr 07 - 07:40 AM I had the impression they had the intention of changing the non smoking room to the larger front room instead of the smaller one. Of course it won't be long before the whole building will be smoke free. Hoping to be in Whitby tomorrow but likely to be travelling back before the Sunday session. Will still try to get in for a pint sometime during the day though :0) |
Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: gnomad Date: 14 Apr 07 - 03:19 AM Yes, Les, still a smoking venue. Not a great deal of it since the move into the front room, but still one or two smoking. |
Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: Rasener Date: 14 Apr 07 - 02:18 AM I take that as yes it is smoking then. |
Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: the one Date: 13 Apr 07 - 06:49 PM in car i suppose, killing us with carbon, dont bite. |
Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: Rasener Date: 13 Apr 07 - 03:47 PM Any answers to the smoking issue then. Leaving in the morning to come up to Whitby. |
Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: Rasener Date: 13 Apr 07 - 09:09 AM Is that room going to be no smoking - Guest The Station Inn ? I hope to be there on Sunday night, if the missus lets me :-) However, I am unlikely to come along if it is smoking. |

Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: Herga Kitty Date: 07 Mar 07 - 04:27 PM Well, now that steam trains are running all the way to Whitby again (sometimes) perhaps it's time for the pub to recognise the station over the road...? Kitty PS Herga's Tim Brooks, who wrote "So far from home" and "The Devil and York Minster" also wrote a song about the railway, called "Steam again in Goathland". |

Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: Mrs.Duck Date: 05 Mar 07 - 12:13 PM Well actually from a railway station on a loop line as it was the Railway Station Inn before it became the Cutty Sark so I am reliably informed. |
Subject: RE: Whitby tap and spile From: GUEST,padgett Date: 05 Mar 07 - 06:51 AM O sounds very nice so it will have gone from a sailing ship to a railway station waiting room then via a keg of ale! Ray Could be a song here maybe! |
