Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: Tig Date: 11 Feb 07 - 05:36 PM There were great sessions Friday and Saturday in the Cheshire Cheese. Everything from tunes and songs to poetry and story - oh, and the odd dance :-) Everyone, including some of the locals who didn't think they were 'into that sort of music' had a brilliant time. |
Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: MoorleyMan Date: 11 Feb 07 - 01:21 PM Sad not to make Fri due to the Pennine snow, but had a great time on Sat. Thanks and congrats to John, Derek and all at Donny, for the cordial welcome, excellent venue and friendly (and smokefree) atmosphere, and already looking forward to next year. |
Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: GUEST, Tom Bliss Date: 11 Feb 07 - 06:47 AM Hi Jon Boy - and where was u friday then :-)? Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: GUEST,English Jon Date: 11 Feb 07 - 06:32 AM Right...having spent the last couple of days staggering between recordings and gigs, I've finally got a minute! - Will see you all in the session this afternoon. (Assuming I don't die of exhaustion) Cheers, Loomes |
Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: Sooz Date: 11 Feb 07 - 04:38 AM Worry not - not a strummer in sight yesterday! More excellent music, extremely friendly hosts and, best of all, CLEAN AIR! |

Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: Sooz Date: 10 Feb 07 - 03:46 AM Excellent concert last night. Nice venue, great music, good sound (pity about the chairs and the weather!) Strummers are taking over the world........ |
Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: Carol Date: 09 Feb 07 - 07:39 AM Refresh it's THIS WEEKEND |
Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: GUEST Date: 08 Feb 07 - 02:11 PM I think it "limped" along very nicely as I recall. with things happening in The Leopard, The Horse and Jockey and The corner Pin. I think also there was a musicians session in the Three Horseshoes and The crown I saw Bernard Wrigley, Janet Russell, Johnny Collins, Arthur Johnstone, The Wilsons, Janet Wood, Loctup Together Liza Carthy, Saul Rose and several others whilst it was limping along. I remember having the pleasure of an intimate session with John Booker, Ray padgett and Johnny Collins (and some other lowly people like myself)in a sort of singaround and what a session! I heard some good singing and some wonderful songs. I wish the revived festival very best wishes and hope it gets the support it deserves. |
Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: BanjoRay Date: 08 Feb 07 - 09:40 AM Well the weather in Doncaster is suitably Ukrainian at the moment. Ray |
Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: Carol Date: 08 Feb 07 - 08:58 AM I'll second that Sooz |
Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: Sooz Date: 08 Feb 07 - 03:02 AM Hope the weather doesn't get in the way! |
Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: r.padgett Date: 06 Feb 07 - 01:21 PM Well I was there with the Barnsley Lads or was it a mirage! Ray |
Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 06 Feb 07 - 01:19 PM 1970 the last Festival in Doncaster ? I moved over from Mexborough in 1989 and along with Bernard Warner and Mick Bamford arranged at least four based at The Three Horseshoes and another one at the Leopard it limped along for a couple of years after that. |
Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: Tig Date: 05 Feb 07 - 01:46 PM Since no session was planned for the Friday night (9th) as part of the festival I've just been informed that one has been organised at the Cheshire Cheese, Wheatley Hall Road. This is in walking distance of the Ukranian Club on the main road. It is due to start at about 8pm. |

Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: GUEST, Tom Bliss Date: 03 Feb 07 - 07:11 AM See you all there - and don't forget to heckle. Tom (warning - I'll be using the Strummer in anger)! |
Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: Sooz Date: 03 Feb 07 - 05:37 AM I was told the space was large, but that they would like advance bookings so they could tell the security gusrd you reg number to let you in. |
Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: Carol Date: 03 Feb 07 - 05:02 AM Sounds good but you need to book a campervan place in advance. Cos if you turn up on pec. all the places could be taken. |
Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: Sooz Date: 03 Feb 07 - 03:31 AM Only another week to go. Learned last night that there is a secure site for motorhomes to spend the weekend. |
Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: MoorleyMan Date: 29 Jan 07 - 05:55 AM Carol is mostly correct. Friday is a concert only. Saturday, as I understand it (and I'm happy to be corrected if the organisers are looking in!), in the afternoon the Ukrainian Club will house, as well as a concert, two separate sessions (one a singaround in the smoke-free upstairs room from 1430 and the other a musicians' session in the bar area). Sunday, the format would appear more informal, with a session of some kind (probably mixed) from around lunchtime, again I believe using the upstairs room. |
Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: Carol Date: 29 Jan 07 - 04:51 AM It's advertised on the Web Site as a singaround and musicians session, starting at 2.30 on the Saturday for the rest of the day and then on Sunday, but only a Concert on the Friday eveving. |
Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: Sooz Date: 29 Jan 07 - 02:34 AM Mixed songs and tunes I believe. |
Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: Lynn W Date: 28 Jan 07 - 02:14 PM Are there any music sessions (mixed or tunes)or is it songs only? |
Subject: RE: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: danensis Date: 28 Jan 07 - 02:11 PM A few years? The last one I remember was in 1970. John |
Subject: Doncaster Folk Festival revival From: Sooz Date: 28 Jan 07 - 11:39 AM Doncaster Folk Festival is being revived after a few years "rest". It takes place over the weekend 9 - 11 February. Artists appearing include Tom Napper, Tom Bliss, Grace Notes and John Conolly but there are also continuos singarounds and workshops for people who don't like concerts. Ticket price is ridiculously low thanks to a grant from Awards For All. See you there? |
