Subject: RE: Lyr.Req. Will you meet me tonight.... From: Philippa Date: 13 Mar 99 - 09:53 AM I looked at "The Maid on the Shore" in the database, but it doesn't seem to be the right song (I know the air of the song Petjoka seeks, but not the words) |

Subject: RE: Lyric req: Will you meet me tonight From: Brakn Date: 23 Mar 99 - 05:21 AM I hope this is the one you mean. Regards Mick Bracken A Spanish fair maid at the age of sixteen By the ocean she stayed day and night By an old elm tree as she sat down to rest With a gay Spanish youth by her side Chorus Saying my ship sails tonight love, my darling, my dear Our meetings at last are all o'er But if you love me as true, as you once used to do Come and meet me tonight on the shore When all had retired and gone to their rest It was quietly she locked up her door With her hat in her hand as she walked down the strand And she sat on a rock by the shore Early next morning she saw him sailing out to sea To the waters she sprang in despair For she thought of the one that she once loved so dear And a thousand times she wished he was there |

Subject: RE: Lyric req: Will you meet me tonight From: Pejotka Date: 28 Mar 99 - 02:37 PM Hello Bruce, hello Mick, thank you very much for your helpful answers. The verses of "Gay Spanish Maid" are not quite the same but similar as in the song Will you meet me tonight on the shore by Maire Ni Chathasaigh. Because of my bad English language knowledge I could not understand the text of Maire s interpretation Now I have got the theme and the content of this wonderful song. Thank you again. If you may ever look for the words of German songs, I will try to help you, too. Pejotka |
