Subject: Folk Music in Harlow- 17th of March 2007 From: GUEST,Dave of Mawkin Date: 06 Feb 07 - 09:37 AM Just a heads up to those of you who live in the Essex area. Mawkin, Lynne Heraud and Pat Turner are jointly putting on a folk concert at a lovely venue in Old Harlow, Essex called The Victoria Theatre on teh 17th of March 2007. The night will consist of two concerts from "Unconditionally Mighty"- (MOJO Magazine) Mawkin, and the "Winsome, humorous and meaningful"- (Living Tradition Magazine) duo Lynne Heraud and Pat Turner, the MC for the night will be Russ Chandler. The venue is a cosy little theatre in the middle of Old Harlow, it looks set to be a cracking night, and I urge you all to get in touch and buy tickets for the small sum of £5. Please support this event, as more events like this will take place if this is successful! Tickets can be bought by ringing or emailing me at- dave@mawkin.co.uk 07751702978 cheers Dave |

Subject: RE: Folk Music in Harlow- 17th of March 2007 From: GUEST,Dave of Mawkin Date: 06 Feb 07 - 09:49 AM Cheers McGrath, I love seeing Lynne and Pat doing their thing, especially the socks song, that wins it for me. |
Subject: RE: Folk Music in Harlow- 17th of March 2007 From: Murray MacLeod Date: 06 Feb 07 - 02:58 PM so presumably not a dedicated St Patrick's Day gig per se ... |
Subject: RE: Folk Music in Harlow- 17th of March 2007 From: GUEST,Dave of Mawkin Date: 06 Feb 07 - 04:18 PM Hi Murray, Its not a dedicated St Patricks gig, both bands dont play much irish music, its more of a celebration of just good local folk music in a nice venue. Definitely worth a look, Perhaps if you ask nice, Mawkin may play an Irish number... Dave :-) |
Subject: RE: Folk Music in Harlow- 17th of March 2007 From: Captain Ginger Date: 06 Feb 07 - 04:27 PM The sad thing is, half the audience will assume that what they're hearing is 'Celtic'! Sounds fun, though - not for nothing is Lynne 'The Hertfordshire Nightingale'. |
Subject: RE: Folk Music in Harlow- 17th of March 2007 From: Herga Kitty Date: 06 Feb 07 - 04:30 PM Mawkin and Lynne and Pat all highly recommended - and I was very tempted, even though I don't live in the Essex area, until I realised that I'll be in Cheriton Fitzpaine, running a singaround at Crediton festival. So apologies for absence, Dave, and I hope you have a great evening. Kitty PS It's Lynne and Pat's domestic appliance accident record that has me in stitches.... |
Subject: RE: Folk Music in Harlow- 17th of March 2007 From: Scrump Date: 06 Feb 07 - 06:24 PM You win some, you lose some, McGrath (you should be on the bill too mate!) I'd love to come along as I like Lynne/Pat and Mawkin, but a pity about the timing though, we have a St Patrick's Day gig so will be otherwise engaged, and I'm sure a lot of others will too. Hope it goes well anyway! |

Subject: RE: Folk Music in Harlow- 17th of March 2007 From: GUEST,Dave of Mawkin Date: 08 Feb 07 - 07:12 AM Hi Janet, Thanks for getting the tickets, it should be a really good night, shame everyone seems to be busy on this thread on St Patricks Day. Would of been nice to put some names to faces. See you at Leigh on Sea next tuesday J. Dave |
Subject: RE: Folk Music in Harlow- 17th of March 2007 From: Scrump Date: 12 Feb 07 - 05:24 AM I saw Mawkin again last night - they put on a really professional show and I can highly recommend them. I had a quick word with Dave before the start - hi Dave! I was sorry to hear you had a problem with your Martin - what happened to it? I was going to ask you afterwards but you'd gone by then. Anyway, 'twas a good night - good luck with the rest of the tour. |
Subject: RE: Folk Music in Harlow- 17th of March 2007 From: Fidjit Date: 12 Feb 07 - 07:56 PM Good to see that something else is going on on what is normaly known as paddy's night. No Dave the right thing to do is NOT play an Irish tune on that night. When it's all over the thing to say is, "I like these Irish nights". Enjoy everyone. Should be really good. Break a leg, Lynne & Pat, Dave and the rest. Chas |
Subject: RE: Folk Music in Harlow- 17th of March 2007 From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 12 Feb 07 - 08:02 PM If it's a good tune it counts as Irish anyway. If it's a good song sooner or later someone is going to say it's Irish. "I wish I'd said that!" "You will, Oscar, you will!" ......................... Will there be a bar? Or should we come equipped? |

Subject: RE: Folk Music in Harlow- 17th of March 2007 From: Herga Kitty Date: 18 Feb 07 - 06:19 PM Lynne has started another thread on this. I'm afraid I'm still going to miss Harlow for Crediton though... apologies! Kitty |
Subject: RE: Folk Music in Harlow- 17th of March 2007 From: GUEST,Dave of Mawkin Date: 19 Feb 07 - 12:43 PM Hello! Ok, to answer a few questions: 1. There will be a bar, apparently its quite cheap too, so get stuck in! 2. Mawkin play 1 irish tune - St Annes Reel (or is it Scottish?), so that will probably be the only irish element of the evening. 3. My Martin guitar is now owned by Allegro Music of Chelsmford, I foolishly and regrettably put 14's on it, gigged it to death, and never adjusted the truss rod, this resulted in a big curve in the neck and a very slight twist, I got it examined by a repairer and he quoted me £400-500 for a new neck, fingerboard, truss and frets, as I dont have any money at the moment, I decided to trade it in for a Larivee DM09. Which is a wonderful guitar, although I'm still beating myself up about the way I treated my Martin! Thanks for your wonderful comments about Mawkin, I hope we put on a good show on the 17th too. Please email me for tickets or ring me at 07751702978 Only £5! Dave |

Subject: RE: Folk Music in Harlow- 17th of March 2007 From: Scrump Date: 21 Feb 07 - 05:14 AM Sorry to hear about the Martin, Dave. I'll be interested to know how you get on with the Larrivee. Sorry also we can't make it on the 17th (as I said we have a St Patrick's night gig elsewhere - fortunately we do lots of Irish material, tunes and songs!) |
Subject: RE: Folk Music in Harlow- 17th of March 2007 From: My guru always said Date: 21 Feb 07 - 07:13 AM This sounds like a brilliant evening, but will be at Crediton too running a MudGather, sorry! |
Subject: RE: Folk Music in Harlow- 17th of March 2007 From: Dave of Mawkin Date: 21 Feb 07 - 07:21 AM Messrs Guru and Srcrump, Thanks for replying anyway, I hope you have fun at your respective gigs. Larivee is fun at the moment, I'll let you know in two years if the same problem happens.. Dave |

Subject: RE: Folk Music in Harlow- 17th of March 2007 From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 17 Mar 07 - 03:22 PM What a shame. I rolled up to the Vicky Hall all ready for a night of good music and it's all dark and shuttered. Drive back home disconsolately, assuming I'd just got the details wrong, or that it had been cancelled, but when I checked on this thread there was nothing about that. I phoned Dave of Mawkin to check, and found the gig has in fact been scrubbed. A pity, because it's a nice venue, and that's a nice line up. NB Please could anyone who puts up details of something happening make a point of announcing in same thread, if for any reason it gets cancelled, or the details get changed. |
Subject: RE: Folk Music in Harlow- 17th of March 2007 From: GUEST,harlowpoet Date: 17 Mar 07 - 07:23 PM Lynne mentioned here that the gig had been cancelled. She hasn't had any involvement in this particular thread. |

Subject: RE: Folk Music in Harlow- 17th of March 2007 From: Dave of Mawkin Date: 19 Mar 07 - 08:57 PM Hello McGrath of Harlow, Sorry I didn't put up an announcement, a rookie mistake. I hope you had a good night in the end. Spurs won! I thought Lynne was going to announce it on the thread, but it appears we have two threads going! Anyway, my apologies once again, all the best Dave |
