Just a heads up to those of you who live in the Essex area.

Mawkin, Lynne Heraud and Pat Turner are jointly putting on a folk concert at a lovely venue in Old Harlow, Essex called The Victoria Theatre on teh 17th of March 2007.

The night will consist of two concerts from "Unconditionally Mighty"- (MOJO Magazine) Mawkin, and the "Winsome, humorous and meaningful"- (Living Tradition Magazine) duo Lynne Heraud and Pat Turner, the MC for the night will be Russ Chandler.

The venue is a cosy little theatre in the middle of Old Harlow, it looks set to be a cracking night, and I urge you all to get in touch and buy tickets for the small sum of £5.

Hi Murray,

Its not a dedicated St Patricks gig, both bands dont play much irish music, its more of a celebration of just good local folk music in a nice venue. Definitely worth a look,

Perhaps if you ask nice, Mawkin may play an Irish number...

The sad thing is, half the audience will assume that what they're hearing is 'Celtic'!

Mawkin and Lynne and Pat all highly recommended - and I was very tempted, even though I don't live in the Essex area, until I realised that I'll be in Cheriton Fitzpaine, running a singaround at Crediton festival.

I'd love to come along as I like Lynne/Pat and Mawkin, but a pity about the timing though, we have a St Patrick's Day gig so will be otherwise engaged, and I'm sure a lot of others will too.

I saw Mawkin again last night - they put on a really professional show and I can highly recommend them.

I had a quick word with Dave before the start - hi Dave! I was sorry to hear you had a problem with your Martin - what happened to it? I was going to ask you afterwards but you'd gone by then.

Good to see that something else is going on on what is normaly known as paddy's night.

No Dave the right thing to do is NOT play an Irish tune on that night.

When it's all over the thing to say is, "I like these Irish nights".

Hello!

Ok, to answer a few questions:

1. There will be a bar, apparently its quite cheap too, so get stuck in!

2. Mawkin play 1 irish tune - St Annes Reel (or is it Scottish?), so that will probably be the only irish element of the evening.

3. My Martin guitar is now owned by Allegro Music of Chelsmford, I foolishly and regrettably put 14's on it, gigged it to death, and never adjusted the truss rod, this resulted in a big curve in the neck and a very slight twist, I got it examined by a repairer and he quoted me £400-500 for a new neck, fingerboard, truss and frets, as I dont have any money at the moment, I decided to trade it in for a Larivee DM09. Which is a wonderful guitar, although I'm still beating myself up about the way I treated my Martin!

Sorry to hear about the Martin, Dave. I'll be interested to know how you get on with the Larrivee.

Sorry also we can't make it on the 17th (as I said we have a St Patrick's night gig elsewhere - fortunately we do lots of Irish material, tunes and songs!)

What a shame. I rolled up to the Vicky Hall all ready for a night of good music and it's all dark and shuttered. Drive back home disconsolately, assuming I'd just got the details wrong, or that it had been cancelled, but when I checked on this thread there was nothing about that.

I phoned Dave of Mawkin to check, and found the gig has in fact been scrubbed. A pity, because it's a nice venue, and that's a nice line up.

NB Please could anyone who puts up details of something happening make a point of announcing in same thread, if for any reason it gets cancelled, or the details get changed.
