Contemplating a move from Mass north shore to the Camden area, so that I can be even colder and crankier. We really like the area {ocean, mountains, unspoiled open places) But I'm ascared I'll have no folkie shanty loonies to play and sing with. Any folks down there get togrther just to sing and have fun?

LOL......Oh are you ever in for a surprise! I'll let some of the group show up. You might want to consider a move elsewhere after meeting them........like maybe Tibet.

I chose the Camden area for my move from New Hampshire years ago because of the number of amazing folk musicians living there. I have no regrets!

There are opportunities all along the coast. Best wishes for your happy relocation.

Don't forget the Down East Country Dance Festival, at the end of march. It's slightly mis-named; it's a general-purpose folk festival similar to NEFFA. I'm going to try to go this year, if I can get the time.

Here in Portland we have regular song circles and house concerts year round.

There are quite a few people from Mudcat land involved and we always welcome new people. Most come back a second time.....

Just beware the headless Jesus and the tiny nuns. Seamus is no problem.

We're located part way between Portland and Camden, and are involved with a once-a-month Coffee House in Brunswick (about an hour south of Camden). There's lots of other things going on - that's just the one I know best.

Charley probably has more contacts - maybe we can chat after the next shanty session at the Press Room.

All the best,
JudyB
