Subject: RE: Obit: Katz Kobayashi (Steel Guitar) (Feb. 8 2004) From: GUEST,Peggy Johansson-kubo Date: 24 Mar 16 - 01:40 AM It has been 14 years since Katsuhiko died. I have just learned that his second wife, also, Peggy, passed away, I believe, yesterday. She was about 55 years old. I appreciated the way she cared for my two children from Katz on the two occasions that Christopher and Yuki were able to visit him in Nashville following our unfortunate divorce. She was kind yo them and it was good to see her, as well as Katz, at Yuki' s wedding.I am thankful that Peggy Is at peace with her Lord and Savior,Jesus. |
Subject: Obit: Katz Kobayashi (Steel Guitar) From: Gene Date: 06 Feb 07 - 11:53 PM Many sidemen who backup the stars often go relatively unnoticed when they die. So, I thought I would post this in memory of Katz Kobayashi, who died 3 years ago, this week. Katz Kobayashi -- former steel guitar player for Marty Robbins, Bill Anderson, Johnny Russell, Jeanne Pruett, Alan Jackson and other Grand Ole Opry stars -- died at his home in Panama City Beach, Fla., on Feb. 8 (2004) of complications from a stroke. Kobayashi, A native of Japan, was 60 at the time of his death. Kobayashi pioneered the steel guitar in Japan and taught himself how to play it. NOTE: I was only at one LIVE Marty Robbins Opry Performances (1978), but have heard him many times on radio. I once heard him introduce the band members and he asked the audience for just one HAND CLAP for each band member. Lastly, when he came to Kobayashi, Marty turned and jokingly said (tongue in cheek), "Hey, is he one of us?" The audience gave Kobayashi a LOUD HAND CLAP. Gene |
