Subject: Lyr Add: THE LAST LEVIATHAN (Andy Barnes) From: Alba Date: 08 Feb 07 - 11:04 PM Hi Les:) I play this song Les but I don't think it is the one your looking for...but just in case I'll put the lyrics in for you. Best of Wishes as always Jude The Last Leviathan written by Andy Barnes My soul has been torn from me and I am bleeding My heart it has been rent and I am crying All the beauty around me fades and I am screaming I am the last of the great whales And I am dying Last night I heard the cry of my last companion The roar of the harpoon gun and then I was alone I thought of the days gone by when we were thousands But I know that I soon must die The last leviathan This morning the sun did rise crimson in the north sky The ice was the colour of blood and the winds they did sigh I rose for to take a breath, it was my last one From a gun came the roar of death And now I am done Now that we are all gone there's no more hunting The big fellow is no more, it's no use lamenting What race will be next in line all for the slaughter The elephant or the seal Or your sons and daughters |

Subject: Lyr Add: O YOU GREAT LEVIATHAN From: KD Withington Date: 13 Feb 07 - 11:59 AM Les in Chorlton, I have sung a song by that title for many years now and it may be the one you seek info for. However, I am not sure who wrote it or when. The info I have is that it may have been written by a Folkrock band by the name of either Green Anthem or Reynard. The words which may help someone are as follows: Title: Oh You Great Leviathan. Ch: Oh you great leviathan, Swimming in your sea blue green, You're the greatest of all creatures, And you're like will never again be seen. In the vast and trackless oceans, Live many creatures great and small. But the Blue whale and his family, Are the greatest of them all. Ch: Man has troubled you for centuries, Hunted you both far and wide. Countless thousands of your number, For the sake of commerce died. Ch: Listen all you whaling nations, Must you kill so needlessly. For all future generations, Let the whale swim in the sea. Ch: Hope this helps you Les and triggers some info out there as to writer/s etc. |

Subject: RE: Oh you great Leviathan From: GUEST,Pages Date: 23 Mar 07 - 11:20 AM skarpi asked about the other song, "the last leviathan." Connemara Stone Company covers the song in such a beautiful way that it brings tears to my eyes with every listen. It is available via iTunes and other music download sites in Germany. http://www.connemara-stone.com/C-Home-Eng.htm Sorry for the off-topic comment in this thread. My first time to this site. Wasn't sure about the procedure for responding just to skarpi's comment. |
Subject: RE: Oh you great Leviathan From: raredance Date: 09 Mar 21 - 01:18 AM I was cleaning up a folder of mp3 songs about whales and whaling and encountered one labeled "Leviathan Reynard". I wasn't sure what that meant so I started searching which brought me to this thread where there wasn't a whole lot more detail. Further searching did lead to more information. "Leviathan" was written by Mal Eden. Eden was a member of the UK band Reynard. Leviathan is on their album Green Anthem (Grapevine – Grv 132)released in 1979. Band members were Eden, Andy Wood, Dave Rycroft and Paul Pearse. I also found a couple Green Anthem albums for sale in the UK for $70-150. |
